    I feel like Ellie killing Abby with how things went is just incredibly inconsistent, that and people wanting Abby dead after all Ellie’s went through doesn’t understand the story. This isn’t about revenge, it may have started that way, but even Ellie said at one point “She gets to live” and she stuck by it, even in the end, and sort of starting a theme of closure when Ellie realizes killing Abby isn’t what she wanted. However, if the story’s only theme was revenge, and if Ellie’s darkness was explored further after Joel’s death, then yeah, her killing Abby would totally fit, as long as that story is centered around that idea without faltering into any other theme in any sort of way.

    • @metalmarten3478
      @metalmarten3478 Před 4 měsíci +3

      Yeah I feel she realised she doesn't want Abby dead, she just wants Joel back. Killing her won't give him back. oon As soon as she let go of this obsession with revenge she could start properly grieving.
      I'm not sure how to understand her whole relationship with Dina and it's ending. I had this gut feeling that Ellie wasn't "all there" with Dina, maybe settling with her and living peacefully wasn't the life that was meant for her and she felt it deep down. I don't know, I feel like Ellie might've been through too much, killed too many people to just settle down and forget it all. Maybe her fate is to keep fighting, not live peacefully.

    • @ArronSmithBroadcasting
      @ArronSmithBroadcasting Před 4 měsíci

      I'd imagine your grandpa probably wanted for you what Joel wanted for Ellie. You can't let that trauma dictate the future. Blaming yourself for his death is only strengthening those same feelings he most likely felt. He would want you to overcome the negativity your feeling and use it to spread love and joy to the world. Your grandpa didn't end his own life. It was a tie between him and his suffering. His memory should serve as a reminder to always strive to overcome the pain, the same pain that he felt, should end with you.

      @@sllumpy3293 This is not the same Ellie as in part 1 though Ellie had never killed anyone in part 1 up until she saved Joel's life. Whereas Ellie in part 2 kills hundreds of people just to try and get to Abby. Gets to the hospital and brutally tortures and kills Nora, then kills both Owen and Mel, which can be seen as self-defence. Goes home after realizing Mel is pregnant, then after hearing of the potential whereabouts of Abby after Abby lets her live, decides to go after her again, killing another good amount of people on the way. Not to mention she travels insanely far (16hr drive likely without a car for most of it at least) for this. After all that, you think she wouldn't at least heavily consider it? The only reason she lets Abby live is because she realizes it's pointless after seeing Joel when she's probably seconds away.
      Like this isn't the Ellie who is trying to help people and still sees the light in the world. She's fueled entirely by hatred and revenge in part 2. This isn't the same girl who sees the "injured" hunter and wants Joel to pull over and help him.

    @kittycatcat6962 Před 4 měsíci +12

    I like abby, honest first playthrough i was tossing her off every high ledge after giving her a taste of vertigo, so satisfying to reload the encounter and find new ways to torture her
    Its not perfect, mostly the ending not the fact Elle spared abby, it is flawed and open to criticism, this wasnt the sopranos even though we are still discussing it years later, it was polarizing and offensive, but it fits with the narrative, first game was about losing everything, being lost and then finding the light, finding something or someone to live for
    The second game is about revenge and ultimately forgiveness, abby is the main character in part 2 and it fucks people up to realize that
    The third game will play on those same tropes sadly but in the end elles story and the third game will ultimately be about redemption and acceptance, maybe the resurgent fireflies attack jackson and kidnap elle, idk or another scenario brings them together, que multiple characters that you play as, dina , hopefully tommy, maybe a new survivor
    Irregardless elle will eventually accept the surgery willingly at the end of the trilogy, sacrifice and redemption will be the end of tlou
    The only ending i feel fits after part 2 is that Elle willing

    • @JayzVeez
      @JayzVeez Před 4 měsíci +2

      The surgery isn't possible because Jerry Anderson was the only doctor left who understood the procedure. This is literally spelled out by Mel when Ellie finds the recording in St Mary's hospital.
      Let's say another surgeon with Jerry's knowledge appears, for Ellie to end up getting the surgery after all of the death and destruction its caused would cheapen the entire franchise. It would make Part 1 a pointless waste of time, an absolute mockery out of Joel's death and the rest of Part 2 just a farcical revenge. The worst thing they could possibly do is write an ending to the whole thing with Ellie doing the surgery.

      I'm replaying right now, and it's just a cycle like that. Jackson team initially decides to let Abby live after Ellie kills Owen and Mel.
      Then Abby shows up to avenge Owen and Mel, kills Jesse, fucks up Tommy and beats the shit out of Ellie and Dina.
      Then Ellie goes avenger again, I believe only because Tommy pushes her to do so (she seems fine with letting it go).
      I see the theme as the question, how far can you go for revenge? How much is enough and is it ever enough? Does it ever end? Because Ellie would've had to either kill Abby AND the kid (which I don't believe she would've) or it wouldn't end there - Lev would've probably come after Ellie, possibly causing more death and it would've kept going.

    Predictions for Part 3:
    It will be a 3 or 5 year time skip
    Lev is the main protagonist
    The story plot is about rescuing and searching for a runaway friend (who is the Leader’s Step child)
    Abby and Lev are still close.
    Lev will meet Ellie again
    The game will introduce a third protagonist who has a very strong connection with the runaway person.

    Lol, a character that has done what Ellie has done leading up to this would most certainly kill Lev. What is her body count? Dozens if not hundreds. Joel trained her and she has followed in his footsteps. Folks, even the director, seem to forget that Joel himself admits he isn't a good dude and has killed innocent people. If any one of us had met Joel in that world, 95% of us would be dead, innocent or not. We may have even been set up by him. And Ellie has unfortunately emulated Joel's behavior in becoming a vengeful monster. That is what's called a pattern of behavior, so one kid would be nothing to her at this point especially if she was as mad as she is portrayed to be. It was shameful playing her. I feel they should hire someone with an understanding of human psychology to help them understand basic behavior. Great gameplay though, haha.

      I kinda wish Abby’s backstory was instead tied to something fucked up Tommy and Joel did in their past rather than the doctor at the end of part 1. It felt like they really tried to brush over the fact that the doctor was doing something fucked up, even if it was for a good cause. Would be easier to be on Abby’s side and would make Joel’s demise more tragic if she was a victim of Joel’s old vicious survivalist mentality back when he was a man who was dead inside.

    I don't know why people still wanted Abby to die, the point was Abby did a terrible violent thing for revenge by killing Joel ruining Ellie, Ellie then spends the game doing terrible violent shit to get revenge on Abby. If she'd have killed Abby she'd be doing to Lev exactly what Abby did to her. Not killing Abby was one of the few good decisions Ellie makes in this story, deciding mercy over revenge (which we've seen only makes things worse considering all of Abby's friends are dead and Ellie's two surviving allies kinda hate her by the end)

      They both caused each other an equal amount of torment. The idea that they're two sides of the same coin is very pronounced. Two women who both lost their father figures, and try to fill the void and achieve closure by taking the life of the perpetrator. Yet it doesn't change the fact that Joel/Jerry are gone, and regardless of how many people you kill out of revenge it will never allow you to move forward.

      @@lockekappa500 I hate to say it, but Jesse is a plot device character in its purest form. It’s why I have big issues with Ellie Day 3, Jesse’s only purpose is to just reject Ellie showing her being consumed by the obsession and her being naive/blind to the fact that what they’re doing at the moment could very well happen to Jackson or vice versa. He’s there for the plot to move along, we only get bits and pieces of character from him. A stepping stone for Ellie’s (and even Abby’s for that matter) story if you will. It’s my fundamental belief that Part I/Left Behind’s side-characters were better in comparison.

If they instead let both Ellie and Abby continue their story back and forth like they did later on without the players knowing what happened to Joel would have been much better. We might think Joel is captured so Ellie is going to get him back while we see Abby's back story. This way we will have a conflicting feeling for Joel's death. Instead we see him die so early that we don't care what her back story is, we just want that bitch dead.
      While I'm add it, the 1st game had had a serious story but had fun moment with over all giving the players a happy feeling. But this one just wanted to make people hurt. Even the fun flashbacks are there to emphasis on how messed up things have become. I'm not saying that makes the story bad but it does make it less enjoyable.

      No offense but you’re not taking in the broader picture. She sees Joel’s fuckup that moment in this scene. Adding to her complicated feelings. She’s been through so much. As a little girl in that cabin? Joel still came back no matter what to get her. Ellie was robbed of her chance to do what she could for him. And she swore to do what Joel would probably do. Kill every single son of a bitch it took to get revenge. You’re confusing your love and loss of Joel to lash out at the game. Just like she killed all those people. The only difference between you and some fans is she survived. You didn’t. You’re still in denial. So you throw your drinks at naughty dog’s face impatiently awaiting the next one. And when it drops you’ll jizz your pants even if you say you hate it. You’ll still look and naughty dog will probably blow your mind. I’m tired of people who are so desensitized by the internet they believe what 200 people write so those 200 people become 200 thousand overnight. The game isn’t bad. It’s actually great. The pacing could be better. But Joel needed to die. If you want a mature story in gaming here it is.

      I get you seeing it that way, but at this point in Ellie's journey, it was clear she travelled all that way not to kill Abby, but to get some peace of mind. I mean she was having severe trauma. She thought killing Abby would give her that peace of mind, similar to how Abby thought killing Joel would give her peace. The difference is Ellie realized before killing Abby that it wouldn't have made her feel better. However, going out there and making that choice for herself did give Ellie the closure she needed.
