"Jerusalem" with music written by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916. It was written for a poem by William Blake "And did those feet in ancient time" from 1804. Today it is best known as the hymn. The famous orchestration was written by Sir Edward Elgar.

Blake's poem:
And did those feet in ancient time,
Walk upon Englands[b] mountains green:
And was the holy Lamb of God,
On Englands pleasant pastures seen!
And did the Countenance Divine,
Shine forth upon our clouded hills?
And was Jerusalem builded here,
Among these[c] dark Satanic Mills?
Bring me my Bow of burning gold:
Bring me my Arrows of desire:
Bring me my Spear: O clouds unfold:
Bring me my Chariot of fire!
I will not cease from Mental Fight,
Nor shall my Sword sleep in my hand:
Till we have built Jerusalem,
In Englands green & pleasant Land.
Beneath the poem Blake inscribed a quotation from the Bible: "Would to God that all the Lords people were Prophets"
Numbers XI. Ch 29.v

I don't own anything - Hudba
Jeff Beck, who came late to our class, and the rest of our class left school, from Sutton East, at 14 years old. We were not offered GCSEs but a few pupils were offered the chance to pass one or two exams. One day he came in with a bunch of stuff in his arms at lunch time and walked with it straight to the Teacher's store room at the back of the class and sat down on the floor. The boys he got on with, relayed to the rest of the class that Jeff was trying to make a guitar. What he had brought in was a few woolly wires and bits of rulers and other wood. I thought, to myself, that he would never be able to make music with that lot. However, some notes came from the store room, and at that time I did not know of any miniature radios that could have made any notes like that, but none the less we heard a few. The rest of the year went by and the last time we saw Jeff was near Cheam in a wood, where we were supposed to be making black ink drawings of twigs and trees. It was next to the spot where Henry the Eighth had made his last castle, - no longer there of course. We all dispersed to create our own lives after that. Sometimes I heard Jeff at the Bus stop shouting to his friends who were in a band. Soon he was to a few years later begin to play guitar with the Yardbirds. It was not until years later I began to hear the real Jeff sound. I missed so much. I have been catching up ever since!! He wanted to do this so much and nobody was going to stop him. He was influenced by his concert playing, pianist mother, who must have played a lot of very good music on the records, and his Uncle who played jazz on his radio in his car, and the film, "The Girl Can't Help It"", with Jayne Mansfield, all sped him on his way. I really am proud of what he achieved all on his own, he created himself and became a great Guitarist remembered by millions of people around the world. Cynthia Allen-McLaglen
Thank you so much for sharing a great story. God bless you.
Wonderfull story!
Wow!
Beautiful.
What a great story! Thanks!
Jeff Beck was a lovely fella. I had the unforgettable pleasure of meeting him when I erected the scaffolding on his place in Wadhurst, East Sussex. I felt a bit nervous when he came over to introduce him self on the first morning of the job. But to my surprise i couldn't have met a more friendly down to earth normal fella. When I drove through the gates of his property I made my way up the long unmade driveway through the trees and parked up behind a unassuming purple Chrysler PT cruiser. I thought the car must have belonged to someone else. I asked Jeff if he could get the owner to pull the Chrysler forward a bit so the back of my lorry was level with a garden path that led to where I was gonna start erecting the first scaffold. Jeff said...
"sure, give me a minute. I'll get the keys and shift it"
I was stunned cos i thought a rock legend like Jeff would drive something like a Bentley or a Rolls Royce, or both?
But I was wrong. The 'cheap no thrills' purple Chrysler was Jeffs favourite every day run around motor to pop to the local shops etc. He loved it. Then Jeff asked me if I liked cars? I told him I liked his Chrysler cos the shape of it reminded me of an old fashioned motor from back in the 1940's / 50's. He laughed and asked me if I'd like to see something else? He disappeared further up his driveway for a few minutes, then he pulled up beside my scruffy scaffold lorry in the most stunning motor I've ever seen in my life! It was a bright red 1930's Ford. A fully customised hot rod! He lifted the side opening bonnets and my jaw dropped when he revealed the big powerful engine. The sun was glinting off the engine like a sky full of stars. Sweeping chrome exhaust pipes, and absolutely spotless inside and out. The retro minimalistic interior was equally stunning with beautiful leather upholstery. This thing growled like a monster. You could feel the power through the ground when it was only on tick over. Then he invited me to hop in. He turned around and headed back up his driveway. What I saw when we pulled up is a sight I'll take with me for the rest of my life. Jeff had a car collection like you'd never believe unless you saw it with your own eyes. A mindboggling collection of even more customised hot rods in all shapes and sizes.
I'll never forget Jeff. Not so much for his cars though, for him as a person. Jeff was the total opposite of what I imagined a world famous rock star would be like. Endless cups of tea made and brought out to us on a tray by Jeff himself. A truly diamond geezer.
God bless ya Jeff 🎸🎸🎶🙌👏🙏
I saw Gilmour w Pink Floyd in '73, & I saw Jeff w SRV sometime in the 80's. BOTH, just stunning guitarists. I'm a 66 year old woman who grew up w the best music ever, love it.
💖
SRV with Jeff Beck sounds absolutely bananas in the best way possible
69 year old man here. Having seen who many consider as the guitar greats of the 20th and 21st century i.e. McLaughlin, DiMeola, Metheny, De Lucia, etc., I am consistently astonished by what Jeff Beck can achieve with a Strat, his fingers and a whammy bar. It just isn't always about how fast and exciting you play but about how you can build emotion in the listener. Jeff was a master at that and I'm sorry to say that, although David Gilmour was a superb technical rock guitarist, and I love his playing, he's just not in the same league as all those previously mentioned. Time to duck...
Are you kidding me chris?.....how could you leave out J.J. French from Twisted Sister??!!! @chrislivesey9546
You were very lucky in deed.🤙
Today's guitarist are all about notes per second but it has little to no feeling. These guys play with feeling in every note.🙏❤
Yes with feelings, terribly out of tune and making tons of mistakes.
I knew of Jeff Beck of course but as a drummer of 46 years every guitarist I had ever played with and some great ones cried when he died..then I knew who Jeff was.
I balled my eyes out looking out at the beach and said a prayer for him when I heard he passed. As a self taught guitarist for past thirty years Jeff Beck was always such a huge inspiration and you can hear him in his playing. One of the best ever and pure class.
Truth
To see 2 of the greatest guitarists that ever lived brings tears to my eyes😢
Live long David, rest in peace Jeff.
Neil from Sydney Australia
That was nice of you to say this from Australia! Have a great day mate!
Nice one, luv from Birmingham England ❤😊
Two legends together. Must have been amazing to be there live.
@@paulcherry8742 My sister once lived in Wallington where Jeff grew up. I wish I knew that at the time. That was in 1976.
Gilmur a monster
Beck loved from all guitar players in the world from Steve Hacket to Jimi Page to Ritchie Blackmor.
I have been lucky to have witnessed Jeff Beck play live and it was incredible. I have never been able to see David Gilmour or Pink Floyd live. Hopefully, that will soon change and I will get to see him play live in NY at Madison Square Garden 🤞
Gilmour and Beck together. Simply amazing. RIP Jeff.
Never thought about it until now how similar these two guys are in how they separated. themselves from the pack. Ethereal, precise, innovative.
The friendship between Jeff and David was also a wonderful.
The sound of these two legends on this stage tuches people’s heart.
Mr Beck plays like a Caribbean Island and Mr Gilmour is the breeze across the white sands…
thats a beautiful way to describe these amazing gifts to human ears
I am the furthest from poetic that you can find but ironically, I can appreciate a beautifully poetic comment.
David and Jeff at Albert Hall is like two people speaking a beautiful language we can only feel.
I’m still mourning Jeff’s passing.
@@ericb.9426 you’re voting trump right?
Gilmour playing Echoes at Pompeii will always be the greatest rock video of all time.
I love Gilmour.
They are both two of the
Worlds best guitarist 🎸
I'm 80.years old i still
Love guitar music 🎸 🎶 🎵
I don't know who decided Jerusalem was the song that these two should play together. Whomever it was, they couldn't have chosen any better.
How is gilmour able to put so much emotions on his notes..😮.. His solo in comfortably numb almost made me cry
Jeff Beck
The master of sound and emotion.
Beautiful man thank you.
The two guitar players who are the most expressive, each note brings out love and emotion! They touch our hearts and souls and leave us feeling joyous! Thank you Dave and Jeff. RIP Jeff Beck!
Jeff is one of the best with dave a close second RIP Jeff
"The most expressive, each note brings out love and emotion". According to that I'd put Andrew Latimer over these two, and yes, they don't make it an easy task to beat.
Two genius simply giving their soul through their guitar. So simple and so great. We are blessed to hear that.
...brings a tear to my eye,... thank you! I was there that night... the world now,.. a sadder place. Miss you Jeff x
I know. Every now and then I see a Jeff Beck video and catch myself thinking "hang on, is Jeff still alive" alas, his passing is just such a loss to us all.
I love David Gilmour. He's been a huge part of my life's soundtrack. Long may he live.
Sir Jeffrey's greatest backing ensemble, all of them pure genius
No thrash no shredding no show boating, simple expressive clean thoughtful emotionally charged playing as two guitar geniuses blend and weave their musical magic. Awesome. At least we have this video to prove it happened. RIP Jeff Beck. Kudos 🌟
Ouça cannibal corpse, você vai amar.
Strange clothes for Jeff but it is entertainement I suppose?🥴
The best conversation that can ever happen between two guitars.
Those insane harmonics that Gilmore achieves just freak me out!
Divid gilmore and Jeff beck are both greatest
Iam 80.years old absolutely fantastic ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
Tal on bass...icing on the cake
And Vinnie on drums...
@@gregf5730 Carmine's little brother, both great drummers. Beck played with Carmen too
@@TheWerequat I thought this Vinnie's last name was Colaiuta.
@gregf5730 Both Appices have played with Beck, though so has Colaiuta, who is a hall of famer and a great drummer's drummer. All the best Vinnies
Tal is Israeli.. she won't be cancelled?
When I drive through the countryside and stumble across a beautiful town I think to myself, who gets to live here? When I see David Gilmore and Jeff Beck together in concert I think, who gets to see them play together? Very special.
This is the best half an hour I've spent on youtube!
Have you seen the new live at Pompeii released footage video AMAZING!
When I lived in the Berkshires, (small town) we had the Live In Pompeii VHS tape at the library and I got to see the whole thing back in the late 80's. It was great!@@silverzales1980
Frickin' tears man... when creative juice flows there ain't nuthin like it! We did grow up in the most musically talented era of mod'n life. May God richly bless you all
Quelle chance on a eue de vivre à cette incroyable époque musicale.
Every single guitarist must watch this and study it. Listen to their phrasing, but also, listening to their absence. A good guitarist, know when to play, but a great guitarist knows when to not.
When I hear this melody I'm always reminded of Greg Lake's voice.
such a harmony between two guitar giants.......no thrash no showing off just pure bliss and two musicians talking to ine another via their guitars. thankyou for uploading
Eric Clapton and Peter Frampton have this same connection on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, also on YT (induction show). We are very lucky to be able to share these moments. 👍😎🇳🇿✨🎸
Two Monsters of Guitar , The Best , Beck and Gilmour !
And one monster of the bass, Tal.
Hammer, Beck, Gilmour and Ringo should've made an album together. I would certainly buy it..
The best guitar player in the world (Gilmour) and the best ever and out of this world player Jeff Beck.
The 2 best guitarist of all time...
Well you're half right
@@markhardwick7791question is which half ?
no on both counts depending on the gig.
Jeff's tone.. still in my ears from years ago. Rest well Jeff.
Missing Jeff,, with all of the ambient music of today, he would not have to change a thing and still be relevant now and in the future.
What an absolute dream come true for any fan sitting in that auditorium. To watch David Gilmour, Jeff Beck, and Vinnie Coliauta on the same stage is totally unreal. WOW!!
Man in the white and the man in the black. But like one. Just beautiful! ❤
I have seen Jeff and Dave several times each over the years. They are 2 of about my 5-6 top fave guitarists. Both playing strats here- the harmonic blend is ...effing GREAT !!!😂
This is like a spiritual moment! God bless who posted this!!!!
I have had the extreme pleasure of seeing both of these guitar legends live and met David and have a signed album hanging in my music room.
Когда слушаешь этих двоих - это как чистым воздухом надышался.
I’m a fan of both - and have seen both live (separately). Beck absolutely staggering… that’s a given but this was a reminder for me of nuts how great Gilmour is. Arguably greatest solo of all time (at worst second to ‘stairway’) but man… Gilmour really is something. There’s just something about his touch. His bends are sublime. His note choice. Beck the better of the two in many ways but just taking a moment to appreciate Gilmour.
For pure expression these are the best two to pick the guitar up. Gilmours sense of melody and Becks ability to make wrong notes sound right with the whammy. Nothing like them. RIP Jeff. Hope that you have a great Jam with Hendrix,Stevie and Moore
Here is clearly Jeff the Master.. and I am a Gilmour fan
With Jimi, Eddie, and Jeff having been taken from us too early, David has moved into the top spot of my favorite living players, followed closely by Guthrie.
might one include Prince in the above lineup and Steve Morse and Tommy Emmanuel ?
There are two exceptional guthries as I know, which one are you referring to?
John McLaughlin and Al Dimeola as well for living guitar 🎸 players....
@@DavidThorbjrnsen That would be Mr. Govan
I think you could include Jan akkerman and Joe Satriani on that list
It's beautiful to watch these two bask in the musical presence of the other, and enjoy it all so deeply. The mutual respect and love is wonderful to see.
So precious!
Listen to this.... Gilmour "LISTEN TO THIS"...! both superb..
These two can pull more sounds out of a guitar than they were ever built to produce. I have been in the music business for nearly 60 years session, touring, and producing. These two a truly Guitar Gods. We miss you, Jeff! We love you, David!
Jeff Beck is in a league of his own 🎸🎶🎵‼️👍
David Gilmour sir, right you are!
Jeff Beck is my favorite guitarist of all time. I was fortunate enough to have seen him perform in Houston a few years ago. Still hard to believe he is no longer with us. But I know he’s still making beautiful music in heaven with a few other greats. RIP SIR. 🥲😘
Absolutely excellent artist!!!
God bless you , who is downloaded this vids. They both are my favorite guitarists and musicmans in my life.
What a beautiful duo playing homage to ELP!
Wish I’d been there. Have seen them both live, but never together.
English guitar heroes playing Jerusalem. Sounds right to me.
RIP Jeff Beck. Still gobsmacked by Blow by Blow lo these many years.
Their talent and dedication to their art is an amazing gift to the world. We are so very blessed!
Improvising lead harmonies! Only these two guy could pull that off and JEFF BECK SINGS! I fucking LOVE IT! This was just fantastic!!
Two absolute giants of their art.
We all have our heroes but it is amazing to watch a legend playing with someone who he holds in high regard or as his hero/legend and friend. I wonder how great he must have felt to do this.
God I miss him!❤
This is right up there with Clapton/Allman recording.
Every time I hear Jeff I’m on the verge of tears
Jeff beck RIP ❤
RIP = Return if Possible 🥲
Two legends
Have loved Jeff's playing since I first heard him in the early 70's and have been a life long fan... RIP mate and thanks for all the great music thru the decades...
Absolutely beautiful. I heard this music and cried after several years.
Wow, Vinnie Calaiuta and Ringo! The only thing better would to have had them both on stage at once!
Jeff-Fucking-Beck!!!!! Two words that say more than anyone could ever fathom.
I saw Jeff back in 2004, a phenomenal guitar player.
Jeff Beck, my guitar God, the only one. RIP ❤❤❤
This song by ELP is extraordinary !!
RIP Jeff Beck 😢
Very emotional to watch, two of the greatest guitarists ever.❤️
