I was the West Coast Correspondent for Boxing News from 1980 until 1995. I covered this fight from ringside in Fat City and went on to cover more of Boza's fights and became good friends with him and his manager, Mickey Duff. This...was a great fight!

I remember this fight when it happened. Great fighters in a great division. The 80s were a Golden Age in boxing. Lightweight Division had Bazooka, Arguello, Ramirez, Edwards, Ganigan, Chacon, O'Grady and they all fought each other.

You mean Jr. Lightweights with a rivalry of Limon, Chacon, Navarette, and Boza
as WBC rivals , which made the best fights. Arguello fought and beat all of them though.

I remember watching this fight on ABC'S international Boxing series that aired on Sunday's. Cornelius Boza-Edwards had fought well against Aleixs Arguello 7 months earlier. Most of the experts thought Limon would be to tough for Edward's but Edward's surprised a national audience with a stellar performance and won the decision in a tough fight. This was a special time in Boxing. This fight was the start of a series of fights between Edward's, Limon, Chacon, Navarrette & Chung Choi over the next couple of years. Some really incredible fights.

@jabs69 Yes, He was one of my favorites. I think Mickey Duff his Manager once said that Boza was good TV or something along those lines. The Arguello fight He actually fought well in that fight. He outboxed Alexis in a few rounds and gave him trouble. Alexis began to pick up the pace and Boza made the mistake of trying to trade with him to in close instead of keeping his distance and using his jab. He was a really good Boxer but he chose to brawl and slug it out so many times. 2nd Chacon fight was unbelievable. I was always glad when he retired that he retired and he didn't stay around and became a stepping stone for the younger fighters. He got out at the right time. He didn't hold his title long but he did become World Champion at Super Featherweight/Junior Lightweight 130.

The late 60's through the lates 80's was the heyday of boxing, when you could watch championship matches on television's 3 main networks (ABC, CBS, NBC), before Cable and PPV ruined it all. I remember watching this bout, and so many, many great fights on my big 25" TV (was the largest sceen size comercially available at that time). Often they'd have fights on two different channels with start times within half an hour from each other. That used to drive me crazy!! I'd be changing channels in between comercials hoping not to miss too much of the action, lol. Needless to say I was the happiest man on the planet when VCR's were invented. I bought one the first chance I could, and those fucking things weren't cheap when they first came out, but I didn't care so long as I didn't have to keep changing channels!!! I used to subscribe to TV Guide just to schedule my weekends according to the fight programming. I used to live for the fight game. I would buy a couple of 40 oz. Colt 45's, a big bag of Dipsy Doodles corn chips, and a jar of Tostito's Chunky Hot Salsa. I'd set up the VCR, sit in my lounge chair (chips and beer in hand), and didn't move until it was all over. Man, those were the days, and I was blessed to have lived them!!

Great lefty matchup. I disagree w/ the statement that LvL is the same as RvR. Orthodox matchups are the norm. Southpaws are rare. southpaw v southpaw is even rarer so they have a lot less experience w/ it. I think it makes things a pretty unique matchup since stance advantage is neutralized and a matchup seen not very often. Especially at the championship level.
