Feeling spaced breathin' out Listerine
I'd said that I'd said that I'd tell ya
And that's you've killed the better part of me
If you could just milk it for everything
I've said what I've said and you know what I mean
But I still can't focus on anything
We kiss on the mouth but still cough down our sleeves
Traveling swallowing dramamine
Look at your face like you're killed in a dream
And you think you've figured out everything
I think I know my geography pretty damn well
You say what you need so you'll get more
If you could just milk it for everything
i've said what I'd said and you know what I mean
But I still can't focus on anything
Rip lil bro. No road trip will be the same. Nothing is the same
may he rest in piece
Sorry for your loss brotha.. He lives on in the music and the memories...

Sorry man
Damn, hit me right square in the feels
R.i.P. my sweet son, I have a picture of you learning to play this. I miss you.
Usually comments like this I just consider begs for attention, most likely on songs that are mainstream, but considering that this is Modest Mouse nobody would do that. I’m sorry for your loss, and I’m glad had a great taste in music.
My condolences
And my blessings
I could never imagine losing my daughter I send u condolences I can never fathom to comprehend
I'm sorry ♡
By the way, for those of you curious, the highway featured in this video is US Route 50, specifically the Nevada portion, which has been nicknamed "The Loneliest Road in America."

Is it the only one that you have ever known?
this song feels like finding an old photo of someone you use to know and realising its been year since you last spoke to or even thought about them.
labRat2752 very specific
this is so specific and yet describes the feeling of the song almost perfectly...
I did that, then looked him up and found he died of old man cancer. He was 35. He was really the only person who accepted me as I was. I will always regret not responding to him sooner.
A year? Five years!!!
Wishing I could actually forget them for a year.
RIP Jerimiah you will be missed and your music will live on forever.
It’s crazy how you can hear this song even when it’s not playing
That's legit. I work around loud machinery but this song played in my head all day

That is called an auditory hallucination and I'm sorry to tell you but you obviously suffer from some form of psychotic disorder.
30+ hour drive from Chicago to Phoenix with my buddy Devin. We had this song on as we looked around in amazement at how different the Southwest is from the Midwest. We loved every second of it. Dev just recently passed and this had me thinking of him. Perfect video for a perfect song. Kudos.
Ash 1 awe comments like this make me sad
Dude I just made pretty much the same trip, just from Michigan to Phoenix. And the Midwest and southwest are like different worlds
Made the drive from Pittsburgh to Tucson.
Raleigh, NC to L.A. I had to pick up a friend in Austin. The slow sunset west of El Paso is other worldly. Cheers, Mate.
I live by you in Wisconsin. I made those drives many times, 28 hours last year to Arizona, Utah, Colorado. You can always tell when you cross into the west. Different terrain out there and everyone seems happier. Sorry about your friend bro, life's sad
Listening to Modest Mouse makes me feel like I'm in my bedroom, in a cheap one storey house in a very small quiet American town somewhere in the Midwest, where I've lived my whole life (I'm actually Russian and have lived in an apartment on the 5th floor my whole life). It's almost surreal.

First time I heard this was in 1999 when my husband walked out and left my son and me penniless. They played in on this local college radio station called *KNON*
I was driving to the store to cash in change I had in a jar. This song has always made me think of the worst night of my life. Now it's just bittersweet. He almost killed me, but didn't break me entirely. Almost though. Felt that way for a few years.
you deserved better. hope you're alright now
Wow, hope you are living your best life now.
@@exetion how do you know they deserved better
God loves you . Love him back he will set you free. In Jesus name I pray .
@William U wow. Cool .
this song reminds me of that feeling in the pit of your stomach you feel when in agony, stressed or overly excited. Thank you for that, it's a feeling most both desire an try to get rid of.
@Enigmatic Petiole I know right? I think that the instrumentals are mostly responsible for that, your mind goes into a trance
That’s the best description I’ve ever heard. It’s so true.
I love how no matter how many times I listen to it it always sounds better than the last time I listened to it.
I listen this when I was 16 years old. Now 29 and its the same esence of pure music for me. Always come here when I need some dramamine musically speaking
It doesn't get any better or any worse than this. All emotion is captured in this one song and sobers you as you feel elated by being understood about always feeling misunderstood.
I feel like this is one of those songs where the music says more than the words.
The breakdown towards the end makes me feel lost and yet in familiar ground. As if it resembles somewhere you have been and will be again. But you aren't sure why. Ironic it also happens to be about addiction and bad habits...
This is one of those songs you can get lost to and find yourself to at the same time. Just a masterpiece.
Perfect comment.
Absolutely. He doesn’t need to sing even
Wow this was so beautifully written great comment
Its one of those rythms that are timeless, they tap into that day dreaming state where you think of important things that dont have a solution,or melancholia about things passed, but in some moments your more sad or more calm and reserved.
Thats the vibe i get
The comments here have been almost as comforting as the song. This song has always entranced me. It got me through some of the roughest times in my life and is like a friend who understands you even when you dont understand yourself. I am so thankful for this song's existence as well as this video's. Thank you.
I use to smoke pot and paint all day to this on repeat.
I love modest mouse so much, they're a beautiful band. The vocals & instruments never fail.. N E V E R F A I L.
"I've said what I'd said and you know what I mean
But I still can't focus on anything"
This song reminds me of a bad relationship, well not outright bad but stagnant and going through the motions anymore and you either stay because you hope it can be saved or you are too scared to be alone so you stay. It speaks of the loss of intimacy that you once had and walking around in a daze because you just don't know what to do. At least that is what I get from it, the great thing about MM lyrics is they speak to everyone differently.
Rest in peace Jeremiah. Thank you for the love and the music.

I can’t listen to this band anymore without heartache
Same here
Everytime I'm at work, and it's raining when I get off work, I just put my earbuds in, and put this song on. I sit on the sidewalk, and just watch the rain in the streetlights, and let my brain drift away. I can imagine driving in the rain, and just listening to this song on repeat, and listen as the same melancholy guitar riff, repeats over and over and over again, making me drift away and let my mind wander. It's music like this that speaks to me the most, and clearest. When I listen to this song, I think about my childhood. Old memories of my friends and family who have all but vanished, and died. The memories that nobody will ever be able to replicate or destroy. When music speaks to you, listen, cause sometimes it's the most important messages that music relays back to you in hopes you'll understand.
why would you sit on the sidewalk while it’s raining
@xtramoist thats horrible. LOL. Some people just like to do things differently. This is how he handles things. Now stop making me laugh. 😅

As a young kid I actually had a friend of mine die from an “overdose” of Dramamine. Over the years I’ve had many more friends die of heroin overdose. This reminds me of times I’ve had and times I have not yet had. The hopelessness of reminiscing, but also the hopefulness of the future. Damn I love Modest Mouse
it's honestly really strange how a song can bring so many bad memories but also make someone feel so much hopefulness
This song does _not_ sound like it came out 23 years ago...

My mom passed last year and I've been angry since. I hardly ever cry. For some reason though, this song does it. Makes me think of how it all unfolded, reasons I've been angry, reasons to still be....and I just fucking cry- every god damn time.
Aww friend, I'm sorry for your loss , truly!
I know how that feels and also how emptiness and grief and Anger feel....
Thats why I'm grateful for bands like modest mouse, bc they speak on a whole other level and you can feel for once just by heading their words
Many blessings to u ✌️
Music is the key to our emotions
I understand your pain .. my mom died in a car accident 7 years ago almost & it still feels like it was just yesterday that we put her to rest
Remember listening to this together with you, Missi, every now and then in your car. It was our jam, wasn't it? I miss your sweet face.
This is what being alone and isolated sounds like
No one talking to you, just you and your thoughts, everyone pretends your invisible
Making you question what you did to deserve this and if your destined to be alone forever in a small fishing town
💯
This song perfectly encased how it’s like to feel mad at somebody close to you.

This song CUTS through a depression.
It's sometimes weird, how songs I've been listening to, like a religion, for my whole life, and no one else have even heard it, and the ones I show it to doesn't even remember the song if I show it thrice.

1996 was an emotional turning point year for me. I didn't hear this song for the first time until yesterday - it feels more like 2004 than 1996. I wish I had first heard it 25 years ago.
For a second I forgot this wasn't the actual music video for Dramamine. So fitting, definitely captured the feel of the song and of course the overall imagery of the album cover. Amazing work!
This song forever holds a place in my heart, so amazing! Every time feels like the first time I hear it.
this is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever had the pleasure to hear
wait, this isn't the official music video? It's so perfect....
there is no official music video. Both unofficial vids are beautiful, and i'm glad they didn't get copyrighted.
That's... real dedication to art on their part, given how record labels are nowadays. I'm glad this video exists, and I'm sad that this sort of art can only barely exist at the whim of the copyright holder in our current system. How much of this "semi-transformative" art isn't made because it has so little legal protection?

I’ve had float on on my playlist for a while, but not until recently did I think to look at other songs by the band. I looked through their stuff and I realized that I had heard a lot of their stuff and just didn’t realize it. This is one of my dads favorite bands and he always plays their music. Evan Gates gives me goosebumbs everytime i hear it
When you realize the meaning behind this line, behind the initial "what did he say? How is that relevant?" It is amazing. We share what we think is good and hide the bad even when it has the same end result. Really speaks leagues of Modest Mouse. Nothing is wasted and everything gives moral outlooks and opinions that truly tell a story with each song.
Sums up a stagnant relationship that you're still in for some reason and haven't left yet because it's better than being alone.

Raw music ! Best of passion, eloquent, humane, that's the stuff we're missing in the compressed, pasted and looped mainstream - there are hands behind these tunes, there's something crude, ragged, veiled, coarse, yet so trained it sounds like master craftmanship. Diamonds don't shine as bright as this kinda stuff.
Somber, sad, nostalgic, melancholic, reflective, beautiful..

It feels like my heart is going to burst
God, I get goosebumps everytime I listen to this song.
This song is unrequited love with a person you’ve crossed paths with many lifetimes before. Always crossing. Destined to never be one.
I knew someone when we first found this song. We don't know eachother anymore and I bet he tries to pretend we never knew eachother at all. He was so mean to me. I read old messages between eachother from 10 years ago and I couldn't believe how cruel he was. I couldn't believe that I never retaliated. I would never let someone talk to me like that today.
The loneliness of this song matches the loneliness of that relationship.
He seems like he's doing really well now. I'm doing very well too but probably in different ways. I'm so thankful I dont feel this lonely in my current relationship. Though I do feel a lot of nostalgia for that time. A couple family members were still around then, and I didn't worry about the well being of my parents so much. But I also was in a dark place then. It just seems like darkness you've lived through before was better because you know you got through it.
Part of growing up is realizing we will never get an official video this good
