    I had my 2013 Can am Spyder rt sm5 for approximately 2yrs and purchased it for approximately $12000 with 12,000miles and brought it in for a 14,000 service they wanted $2100+ tax not included. They said the service for a valve trane is expensive, that’s just what they offered, I just declined and ask for an oil change and they wanted $305 w/o tax $145 labor and rest for parts. I declined again, I’ll do it myself and learn from your videos. New subscriber & Thanks 😊

      I show that process from 45 seconds to 1:30 in the video. The biggest trick is the screw that’s hidden under the wind deflector, aside from that it should be a few body pins and then it’s just held by two pressure clips (pulls right off)
      If you’re still stuck, I would try the forums at spyderlovers.com - lots of great owners there willing to help with detailed advice

    What is that high pitched noise, and how long does it last,? my 2014 SM5 makes that noise, it seems to last a long time

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před rokem

      The high pitched noise when you turn it off? I was told that’s completely normal and has something to do with the fuel/ignition system. Mine used to do that for 30 minutes to an hour after the key was turned off.

  • @chuckielopez4114

    Do you check the oil in gear or should it be in neutral?

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před rokem

      In neutral but you have to do it warm and level. I believe the recommended process is to drive it 5-10 miles, then park it and let it idle on a level surface for 1 minute. Then shut off and check.

    Do you know if the manual spyders roll back like a car?

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před 3 lety +1

      The SM5 Spyders are true manual transmissions with clutches, etc.. so they will roll back like any other vehicle. The Automatics hold their position pretty well as long as you don't override them to full neutral mode

    is it the same as for SE5 ?

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před 2 lety +1

      On the SE5 the process is almost the same but you have a second filter (round cap above and forward of the one in my video) for the transmission. I think your oil capacity may be slightly higher too but I’m not sure (you’d have to check manual or the forums)

    How much capacity engine oil Spyder can Am RS?

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před 3 lety +2

      You need to buy 5qts of oil. Capacity on the manual transmission is about 4 qts - and automatic (assuming you also changed out the filter) is 4.5 qts. Good to have extra on hand too because these motors burn oil

      @@AskDIYDad so like once a week I should check the oil?

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před 3 lety +1

      @@iluvbiggirlz420 It depends on how much and how hard you ride, really. I rarely need to add to mine more than once a month unless I'm on a cross-country roadtrip. Start with every few weeks and if you notice oil level is barely moving, expand that time to whatever feels appropriate
      As I mention in the video though, make sure you are checking the oil properly. Meaning with the bike at full temperature after a ride, parked level, and let it idle level for a minute before you shut off and check

    • @AskDIYDad
      @AskDIYDad  Před 2 lety +1

      Officially - XPS 4-stroke motor oil from Can Am (www.amazon.com/2010-2013-Can-Am-Spyder-Roadster-Maintenance/dp/B01AAWVAW4/) but you can use any 4-stroke motor oil. There are kits out there from Baja Ron that will save you some money
      Check out my other videos.. I -think- the RS of that year has the ability to enable cruise control pretty simply - the start of my video on adding cruise tp my Spyder ST shows how to check if you have the covered button - if you do all you have to do is replace the right-hand controls which can be done in your driveway in under an hour.
