- There is so much confusion surrounding Speed Boosters and Adapters. I get asked every day about the differences, which one is better, and which you should use for different situations. In this video I’ll explain what adapters are and how they are used. I’ll then discuss Crop Factor, Focal Length and Aperture and dispel 2 myths that are everywhere on the web!

What's up everyone?! I hope this EXPLAINED video about adapters, speed boosters and crop factor was helpful. Did I cover what you wanted to know? What else did you want to see or learn about.
Would love to know what you think. Which do you plan on using, or are already using and with what lenses.I am grateful in advance 🙏

what did you use to my this video as far as camera and lens?
links are backwards...
I wanna know, how do you edit ur video. Im planning to buy a good lptp/pc to make editing smooth, still havent decided
Have your tried the Metabones and rhe Viktrox speed booster? Any real advantage for paying double the price for the Metabones? Thanks
Every other youtuber explaination: "Speed Boosters pretty much work like magic"
Sagi: "Let's dive into the pythagorean theorem"
You guys crack me up - so funny 😂🤣
Appreciate you so much!
Did you know the pythagorean theorem used no x, y or z? (I think you know, but let's assume more people will read this).
The theorem a geometric one: if I construct 3 squares using each side of a rectangular triangle (right triangle? a triangle with one 90 degrees angle!) then the areas of the two sides of the 90 degrees angles, added together have the same area as the square built used the third side of that triangle (the hypotenuse).
And why am I telling this? All of camera lenses optics is called geometric optics - things know in Pythagoras time. Why people don't know this? I'll tell you: people are not dumb and almost everybody has no cognitive deficiency - the people who run the School system are basically dishonest.
Honesty is not only "not to steal", it's also do what is correct regardless of what people will think.
_But First We Need to Talk About Parallel Universes_
The “Magic” explanations are good for us dummies though. This was a lot to take in.
This is a legendary level of nerdy😍🔥 love it tho! An Interesting yet a confusing topic, thanks for sharing the knowledge
This comment is awesome! "Legendary level of nerdy" is now my favorite!
Sagi is never confusing! PULL IT BACK!!
For some reason my head is smoking after listening to this!
@@californiahiker9616 mines too... hahahhaha.. really great stuff
Lol, enta bt3ml eh hena @mekawi 😂
Finally! Contrary to other channels You explained everything without "sensor war" bias. Without omitting certain details to suit agenda. Very informative and on point. Kudos to You. Your channel became my favourite regarding photography gear. Keep it coming. Thank You. :)
I'm so glad this video resonated. My hope was just to share the facts with no judgement. Appreciate you being part of the channel 🙏
I just discovered your channel about a week ago. Everything I've watched so far has been immensely helpful. Your presentations are clear, concise, and informative. Thanks for the education!
I am so glad you didn't stick to the party line of "forget about crop factor" because it doesn't change the focal length and dove into the real issue that it does change the 'effective' focal length. Most of us who know something about optics were only confused that some ppl were confused or misrepresenting this. The bottom line is "It doesn't matter that it doesn't change the FL. because crop factor does affect the results which is, It looks like it changes the FL. as in a 1.6 [canon aps-c] crop factor makes a ef 50mm "ACT LIKE" an 80mm. what I wasn't yet sure about because I had not yet researched it was the f-stop. It makes so much sense how you explained it. Other youtubers either ignore the basic math or get it wrong by multiplying one number but not then multiplying by the next. EG: a 50*0.71*1.6 being 56.8mm [effective] is the math of the speed booster effective FL Now, for me...
I have an EF 78-300mm f4-5.6 and while a 120-480mm f4-5.6 doesn't make sense for weddings, with this info, I can see how having a 85-340mm max at f2.8-4 does make sense
For other lenses and primes that aren't available on ef-m yet, a 35mm becomes a "nifty 50 with just an adapter, and now that I know that the f stop won't change, it's going to be both for me.
What I'm now confused about is, why isn't the 22mm prime an effective 22 mm? Is it in fact, an effective 36mm?? and why? EDIT: he answered this but it wasn't that clear. Yes, you apply the crop factor to ALL lenses. That means the 22 prime is basically a 35mm when compared to a full frame camera with a 35mm
Superb tutorial. Other platitudes are available! Seriously, that's probably the best explanation I've seen anywhere. Been taking images for almost 50 years and you've impressed me! Thank you.
Man, this is a PROPERLY DONE video. This is probably what people teach in those paid courses. Great work!! Thank you for this knowledge!!
Glad it was helpful
Hey, Man! I was really confused about this topic and you just made a video! KEEP THE CONTENT COMING
I know this video had A LOT in it - hope it helped.
This was an excellent video. You clearly explain everything for anyone to understand it. You are a good instructor . Keep up the excellent work you do. Many thanks.
I studied technical photography at RIT and we were DORKS! And yet I never knew the math behind F-stops. Your explanation makes total sense.
Your videos are great! Thanks!
Glad you like the videos Steve. I like Rochester - winters were rough 😂
Man your content is great, you had my full nerdy attention on this one, it really cleared up a lot of stuff I was a bit confused about. Thanks!
I'm not sure how this video relates to cameras but after watching this I was able to ace my geometry test!
I sure have to say...you are a FANTASTIC teacher. Obviously you learned well, when you needed to. Thorough knowledge on the subject. Thorough command over the language. No faltering or fumbling between sentences....consistently. Your lungs, God bless, are great, you hold your breath modulation perfectly. Above the rest, the video-editing is so cut-to-the-edge. Can't find a point to negate, except that the Pythogarous eguation...well you are not at fault, on that. Math was not my forte. But you made me understand the APSC sensor better. Boy, so much learning, I will again and again visit this video to get my fundas clear. Kudo1 Many thanks.
I'm so glad this video was helpful and am truly grateful for the time you took to leave such a wonderful comment. 🙏
Oh my gosh! Actual maths 😃 Simply the best explanation of focal length, aperture and crop factor. E-v-e-r! 📸
Wow, thanks! So glad you enjoyed it Martin 🙏
Brilliant video, the best I have come across so far. Extremely well explained, not just about the adaptors but also the crop factor and focal length, the aperture, the field-of-view etc. Thank you so much.
So glad it was helpful Jay. Thank you for being part of the channel!
This has to be the best explanation of F-stop, Focal length and how they work together with a camera with or without an adapter. Thank you!! This was awesome and I haven't even gotten to the actual adapter vs speed booster part. lol. Well done man!
Your channel provides value and great information. Even though many other content providers mention the same topics. You have a great way of explaining it to the masses.
So thank you, for the 10 of thousands of hours you have spent thus far editing and composing the channel.
I'm so glad you're finding value in the videos. Thank you for all the support!
I knew all of this, through what I must say was quite an extensive research, reading articles, watching multiple videos and linking it all. This video is probably the only which explains it all together in a simple manner! Really great work!
Super appreciate you watching and taking the time to leave feedback. 🙏🏻
This is a fantastic video. I had a super basic understanding of some of the crop factor effects, but this has expanded my brain understanding ten fold.
I really like these educational type videos to help improve understanding of the little things to help improve skills and abilities within photography.
Thank you.
So glad it was helpful.
Thank you! This video gave me a couple of light bulb moments and will help me with lens choice as well as adapter choice.
I’ve watched a few of your videos and appreciate how you break down the information. I’m new and I’m looking at the canon m50. Thx again.
Sagi, kudos man! I have been watching videos on your channel for a few year now, and you are such a great reference for both gear and for general knowledge pertaining photo and video. Just wanted to say thank you for continuing to put out stellar content, and I'm happy to see the channel growing. 110K subscribers and growing and you have certainly earned every one with the high level of production on your videos. Although I was fairly well informed about these topics, there was still some useful things I took from the video, and tbh, I woulda watched it all anyway cuz the videos you've been putting out are so on point. Keep up the good work!
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and for the kind words Sean. I'm so grateful to have you as pat of the community 🙏 I've got more content coming!
I’m so glad that this can all be explained but I still have a hard time understanding. That was a lot of math. Great job. There are some amazing folks creating all of these advancements. So cool.
Finally someone who can explain properly the pros and cons of both
I’m glad it was helpful.
Thanks sagi for this content, I am amazed how you explained this. And for me, I'm glad I have both adapters so I have options based on my preferences
these videos are incredible. keep them coming! i'd love to see someone discuss the evolution of sensors; I been recently obsessed with the magic behind bayer cmos sensors that DJI and some others are using. i'm not sure if it's completely applicable to what you like talking about on your channel, but some of these advancements/tricks are pretty fascinating.
Thank you for the super kind words Brandon 🙏
Let me see what I can do!
Hey buddy, I just keep coming back to your channel you have so much good info. your delivery makes It very easy to understand and grow my understanding of photography thanks Sagi.
So glad it’s helpful
The only thing I don't understand about the videos Sagi makes, are the dislikes. Seriously people, what on earth do you dislike about his content? This quickly became my go-to tech video channel. Thank you so much Sagi!
So glad it was helpful Jacob 🙏🏻 I appreciate the kind words and support!
I've seen many of your videos, but this one may be my favorite so far. Lots of cool information very clearly conveyed.

I love the depth of explanation here. Brilliance my friend! 🙌🏾
Thank you very much from Finland, 🇫🇮, interested in M6 mark 2, you are the first source I understand and that makes camera world so much interesting.
This is the most detailed explanation that I’ve seen. Very well done! I have and use both depending on the lens and what I’m trying to achieve.
Appreciate the feedback 🙏
Spectacular video! I was wondering about speed boosters and you explained it clearly. I really love your channel. Keep up the great work.
So glad I could help.
Great video Sagi! This was something that I already understood pretty well, but I'm glad I clicked anyway because I understand it much better now. I didn't expect you to go into all the math. Thank you!
Thanks so much Joey - so glad it added to your existing knowledge 👊
I think this is a phenomenal video and is the first I have come across in 5 months which explains in detail the difference between full frame etc. I got a bit lost in the math at the end but I would love more videos of this detail as it has demystified some of the jargon!
Appreciate the feedback Tom. Glad you liked it - more coming!
Explained so well ! This video is being book marked - to be referred to and to share it with others ! Thanks much
I stopped the video to say thank you. Honestly your tech videos are very inspirational and informative. Your channel is by far the only channel I jump to view nowadays. Thanks!
This video is excellent! Great explanation of focal length and aperture,. 🙌🏼
This is straight up the most in-depth video explaining the topic I've ever watched. I know this is old but damn... 100/100. Fantastic and informative video.
Love your style and information delivery. Thank you for sharing.
You are so welcome!
Wow, what a wonderfully informative video! You went above and beyond, dude!
Awesome explanation of everything you went over there’s a lot of amateurs out there making videos and blog posts that make it hard to know what’s what but it’s clear you have a firm grip on the subject 👍🏻
Very nerdy but filled with very very important information. Love it 💛
Great Informative Video! I have gotten into cameras recently with buying an M50 a few month back and my ADD self is soaking up this content like a sponge! I'm learning so much more here watching your videos than what i'm learning at Uni haha keep up the great work Sagi!!

You are very welcome Steve. Glad it was valuable.
Thank you sir 🔥
I was bit confused with other comparison videos. But you explained it so well.
Now I am going to buy both. 😇💯
Most welcome 😊 🙏
Bro this was deep but I loved it LOL. I went with an adapter for my M50. Thanks for making the video
This video is super helpful and detailed. It's one of those that will stand the test of time, and be relevant YEARS from now. Fantastic content as usual! Why go to school when you can just find this type of content on CZcams?
Thanks so much Brett - I'm super appreciative of the feedback 🙏
Wow you explained that extremely well. I did not lose my attention throughout the whole video. You’re great at this. Thank you for sharing the knowledge
So glad it was helpful. Thank you for being part of the channel!
This is a great explanation! I wish I had this sooner, it would have saved hours of research I had to find on my own.
I'm so glad to hear that Dan - appreciate the feedback 🙏
I had to watch the video twice… but now I really understand the difference, and how it actually works. Thanks a lot for your didactic approach!
Wow. I'm actually now understanding it the 2nd time around. The 1st time I watched this a few months ago I got dizzy (ziggy) ... Lol. But it actually sank in now since I'm now about to buy my M50.
Thanks much. Your effort wasn't in vain.
Glad you gave it another chance!
Amazing, well-detailed video. Love from Kenya.
So grateful I found your channel. Finally I gain access to some real knowledge. thank you! :)
You are so welcome!
New subscriber here! Just bought the m50, made the mistake of reviewing mark ii comparisons and immediately thought I made a mistake. Thanks for making so much content about the m50, in large part your videos helped my decision and also talked me off the mistake ledge, lol. You’re videos are great and easy to follow for a novice like me. Keep me coming.
This is why I love you channel and content so much. You don’t try taking subjective matters and making them objective: you just lay out the facts in an easy to understand way so we, the viewer, can make informed decisions.
I very much appreciate the honest feedback 🙏
This video is gold, thank you for all the great info!
I can’t believe I just watch the whole entire video with all those numbers in it. And somehow kinda understand all of them in one go. You’re so good at explaining things!
So glad it was helpful. Appreciate the feedback and the kind words 🙏🏻 thanks for being part of the channel.
Wow thank you I have never know any of this nor a photographer. Started researching to take some product photos for my ecommerce business and you nailed it. I completed understand what other videos are talking about now :D
Wow, a very detailed and very clear explanation of all this. I know this video took some time to make, but thank you for showing all the math and a clear and precise explanation.
You're very welcome Tim! I'm so glad it was worth it.
in all honesty this is one of if not the most clear videos out explaining the crop factor.. keep up the hard work really!
Oh wow - so glad it was helpful! Thank you for the kind words.
You explain this so much better than I do. Many people don’t understand these concepts, but are quite willing to tell you that you’re wrong. Thanks!
Really well done video. I’m sure a lot of people won’t watch it all the way through, but hopefully that doesn’t dissuade you from making more meaningful content like this.
This video answered my question about using the crop factor with the apeture. Thank you to the info.
So glad I could help James!
So glad I found this channel! This is everything!
Glad it was useful. Thanks for being part of the channel 🙏
this channel is super helpful and informative!
Most informative and the ULTIMATE video on this topic. Every photographer must watch this video once in their lifetime. (Many photographers don't know the physics behind this.) I am not not exaggerating. This is an amazing content, Sagi.
Thanks so much for the kind words - please share. Thanks for being part of the channel!
Great video man! I learn a lot from your channel, thanks for sharing you knowledge

Glad to hear that!
Thank you for making this video! It has helped me immensely.
I watch your videos from Colombia, you are the best teacher ever, each video is pretty much better than previous.. now i learn photography and english, thanks for speak slowly , i really appreciate it. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 thanks a lot.
So glad I could help Pablo!
Thx, this is the first time I have seen a bideo explaining this right. It has taken almost a year to deduct what you just presented in this video
Nicely done, one question I have on speedbooster, that is, even though it tends to widen area coverage at sensor producing a lower f stop or wider aperture, will there not be some loss of light due to refractive element?
An adapter with AF is a safer option in that case.
Amazingly explained! Thank you
This is the best video I've seen that explains speed boosters, focal length and aperture in a way most people will be able to understand. Good job!
I’m so glad it was helpful! Ty for the kind words.
excellent explanation of the adapter and speed booster !!
awesome video. I’ve always been a bit confused with this topic. I had too brush up on my math while watching but it was broken down nicely.
So glad it was helpful. Thank you for being part of the channel!
This video is so good, huge props for explaining it so clear 😄👍
Glad you liked it Thanks for being part of the channel!
Sagi has a way of explain things that makes it clear. Now I want a speed booster...and know how and when to use it. Thx for putting this video together. I'm looking forward the one about aperture.
Appreciate the feedback Ruben! Thank you for the time!
Great Video! Finally I got all the basics to understand this topic.
Glad you liked it! Appreciate you taking the time to leave feedback 🙏
Great video. I actually own/use both, but something nobody ever seems to point out is that you cant use ef-s lenses with speedboosters because of the bit that juts out behind them. They just won't fit 😊
Thank! Appreciate you sharing. Correct - speed booster will only accept EF Mount.
Wow. I am hearing this for the first time. Did you actually try this and it did not work? Or it is just a theory. My Efs lenses woks on my full frame body. I just have to zoom in a little to remove the vignette. So are you saying crop lens will not sit at all on a speed booster? On their website, they listed Sigma 18-35 1.8 as a compatible lens and that is a crop lens
