  • Genki Sushi is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant in Tokyo with a difference! It's in Shibuya near Hachiko Square and Shibuya 109.
    GET MY JAPAN TRAVEL GUIDEBOOK: www.cakeswithf...
    Genki Sushi is such a fun restaurant! You order on a touchscreen, and the sushi arrives on a kind of train - a fun twist on the usual kaiten sushi style.
    There's a great choice of fish and vegetarian nigiri, maki, gunkan and sides, including edamame and desserts. It's great value, and while it's not restaurant quality, it's our favourite of the cheap sushi places we've been to in Tokyo.

      I heard that with the pandemic, Yo Sushi are introducing this style of conveyor belt so you can order to your place with less contact - not sure if it's going to be in all their restaurants or just a few!

    Nice video! Shows how limited sushi is in Japan for veggies, but it is possible! Btw, If you go to a place that allows custom orders, you could try asking for an avocado roll too, just be sure to ask without shrimp as that'll be the default! (basically just lettuce and avocado)

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 4 lety

      Yes - not many places have avocado on the menu at all, but if they do, the sushi's usually made to order so I'm sure they could do that.

    Wife came home with sushi from m and s for our first ever taste , conclusion is we loved the sushi without the seaweed wrapped around it , found with out the seaweed it was lovely but of course in japan so much better so will have another go . Thanks again

    • @cakeswithfaces
      @cakeswithfaces  Před 6 lety

      The seaweed can be a bit tough on lunchbox sushi - it starts off crispy then absorbs the moisture from the rice, so if you get a chance to try it when it's just been made, you might like that better. (The best is when you make your own!) :-)

      @cakeswithfaces  Před 7 lety +1

      Fantastic, you must be so excited! And October's a perfect time to go - that's when I went last! :-) There are lots of cute character shops in Tokyo Station - follow signs to Characters Street (aka First Avenue) and there's lots to explore! If you want to go to the Studio Ghibli museum, book early as it sells out. The Alice in Wonderland cafes are amazing if you like theme cafes. You can visit the shrine from Love Live (Kanda Shrine) - it's a short walk from Akihabara. You certainly won't be short of things to do! :-)

    • @yorokopi1
      @yorokopi1 Před 7 lety +1

      There's the Q-pot cafe in Harajuku and Kiddyland as well. Akiba has the girl's animate (this is the big one that is six stories), the Tokyo Anime center, the Kanda Shrine, and the Akiba Gatchapon Kaikan. There's a lot of stuff to do just in Tokyo but JNTO (Japanese National Tourist Organization) has a lot of info of things to do within Japan.
      Glad that you get to go to Japan in October. I'm going early September myself with a friend for two weeks. :3

    Genki Sushi is a Singaporean company. That's why there's so many weird varieties, English heavy menus, and not-so-fresh fish. There are a ton of them in Singapore and it's really bad sushi there. I suppose with Japanese employees, it'll be a bit better in Japan. They opened up an outlet near Times Square in New York City but if failed because of all the poor reviews. Nonetheless, you'll be smart to avoid Genki Sushi, anywhere.

    • @cakeswithfaces

      I'm Japanese, and 元気寿司(Genki Sushi) is Japanese company that was established in 1979 by Fumio Saito, and their headquarters are in 栃木(Tochigi). I never been there, but menu looks same as tons of other sushi chain restaurants in Japan such as スシロー or かっぱ寿司. As she said, it not the best quality sushi restaurant, but fish looks fresh and looks alright. They are in business for about 40 years, so it shouldn't be that bad.

      The best sushi I ever had in Japan was a small shop inside a Seiyu Department Store in Fussa, Japan. Only the locals knew it existed...and I liked it that way!!!
