  • The 2019 CRF450L has a throttle like an On / Off switch in technical terrain making it difficult to control sometimes. Can G2 Ergonomics Throttle Tamer tame that throttle?

    Thanks again for videos. I road motocross, ice racing, and off road. So in saying that is I do not have my motorcycle license yet. I just passed the written exam yesterday day and booked a road test. The problem is the earliest appointment is Sept 13. I am in Calgary Alberta Canada. It will be all off road for me until Sept. Just got insurance and registration and am good to go. Will go out in a couple of hours (load up in my van to riding place west of the city). I can ride legally on the road if I ride with someone with another bike with a class 6 license. Am 55 years old and I think this bike will be great for me.

      @@JohnTYoung Hey John, just got back from riding and I absolutely love it! These stock tires are no good in the mud as it was raining today. The tires are good on the fire roads and upper valleys. The shift lever was to low and I raised it one notch. This thing has more then enough power. The engine braking power is something that I have to get use to, because I am coming from a two stroke (Honda CR500). You are right about the sensitive throttle, as I had to fan the clutch in tight spots and to prevent it from stalling which I did several times.
      Going to go back out tomorrow to spend more time on it before I decide on parts. Maybe that throttle tamer will help. I really like that rack from Skaggs that you have on the back fender. Probably will do that if they ship to Canada.

    Have you put in a Vortek ECU as well? Plus the a new exhaust to fix the problems? Then the throttle tamer? $700 for the ECU, $700 for a pipe and now $70 for the throttle tamer. For $10,399 plus $1500 your over the price of a brand new ktm 500exc-f which as i understand doesn't require all that to make it run properly.

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  Před 4 lety +2

      I have installed a Vortex ECU. And my Honda CRF450L ( which as far as I know runs properly stock) is now slightly more expensive than the KTM - and has an aftermarket exhaust - and a tune-able ECU. Oh, and it's a Honda.

    This is the only thing I have found absolutely has to be fixed on the 450L. It is HORRIBLE. Supper unsteady and dangerous really. Does the throttle tamer help? Or just the vortex Ecu? Or both?

    • @JohnTYoung
      @JohnTYoung  Před 4 lety +1

      The throttle tamer and time are a great and inexpensive first step. Most people say that over time the twitchiness gets better. The Vortex for sure fixes it, along with a ton of other benefits, but has a $700 price tag.

      Thanks man. Super helpful channel yours is! I’ll tell you my story: so I graduated nursing school and was going to reward myself so I bought this bike. Was originally going for the 250L because of the price, and I have a wife, and you know you gotta run things by her.. well they only had a 250 rally (which I definitely didn’t want)... and a 450L (which I really wanted but didn’t see myself getting because of the price). Well she said to get what you want. Needless to say I walked away with the 450L that day. Third day of me having it I took it on the farm.......... and started getting on it. Back tire spun out from under me and I hit a wooden fence mid 2nd gear. Thought I may have broke my leg which is still indented to this day. Bike wouldn’t start and my pride was destroyed. Thankfully it was just an ignition wire that had torn which was easily spliced back together and a fuse had blown which the bike comes already with an extra one. I got lucky

    Hey John, got my G2 from CRF'sOnly a week or so back, and I have to say I'm rather disappointed..I find it is still way too "touchy" at small throttle openings...it may also be affected by what ECU map I'm on, and I guess as the bike is still quite new, I wouldn't get another, in hind sight, especially that it cost me close to AU$170, by the time I got it from the U.S.

      @@JohnTYoung Hey John, I thought I'd give you a little bit of an update on my G2 throttle tamer...
      My last comment was not a good review, and I did mention that it might depend on what map I was running. At the time, I had changed it way down to 9, which was what it was set on when I bought the bike, I have tried a few other maps, but I just went for a ride with it set on 6 which is the highest (or lowest) setting for the FMF pipe... And it has made so much difference..,I guess it's the same as setting 1 on your bike with the Yoshi.
      Anyway the throttle tamer, is doing its job, it's very nice and progressive at very low speeds now.
      But I still get the odd flameout, but it is still far from run in.
      Cheers
