I love this westie haircut. Many people have their westies belly hair long almost to the ground and I really dislike that. It feels like the most important thing to them is how the dog looks and not what’s most comfortable for him/her. So then the hair always gets wet and dirty even when it’s just little rainy or snowy outside. The haircut you did is awesome if you want to be active with your westie and make him/her feel comfy

AT LAST! Finally a groomer who really understands Westie grooming and personality - & your calm manner makes such a huge difference! We have TWO Westies at home, and just a question re: tools you used:
1) thinners and chunkers: can you be specific on brand/size? I want to get the exact right ones...
2) I love to see their adorable big eyes - any specific advice for keeping eyes "open"?

Wow you’re a super pro groomer!! I’ve watched 20 other Westie groomers and you’re by far the best yet !( I adopted a former breeder 7 yr old)when you said “number 1 air in face “ I was rolling bc the first other groomer was doing that while holding her nose!! I thought the same thing ! I’ve had my girl ( Willow) 9 months and ever groomer messed her up! I’m finally deciding to take it in my own hands !

I have the Andis clippers with the #4FC, 5FC & 10 blades. Suggestions on where to use these? I use the 10 blade for the belly & potty area. I've been using the 4FC on the back & to taper into the skirt. Should I also use this on the legs & head? Those are my BIG problem areas. Thanks so much for your face & tail tips. What size chunkers are you using?

28monkeyking28 use a number 10 for the sanitation areas it’s generally fairly safe
I have two Westies and with the pandemic, I'm going to try and groom them myself. I love your calm approach with them. I should look for a clipper with a "40 blade and a #2 attachment?"
Ty I hope it helps. What type of a clipper are you using? If you’re just making an investment I would suggest a Wahl 5/1 cordless and a set of attachments there’s a number of different Sizes. If you have questions let me know. Good Luck.

Brian Burke I would buy professional if I were you there’s not much of a price difference. Wahl bravura 5/1 cordless. Ask them for the attachments as well

I just adopted a westie. Where I live I don't have 1 coming in my shop. So I haven't had much practice. Where clipper are you using. Your ear trick is amazing.

Hi Frances yes you can do this same style on your puppy if you like. It’s on the shorter side but very popular with the owners and easy to keep up. As far as training stay on top of it Westie can be difficult train often in a positive fashion for best results. 5/8 min session are best 😁 Good luck.

My male westie is 5 years old an he has been ask not to return by 4 groomers there was a young lady who was great with him but because of covid19 she has quit to stay home with her kids is there something we can do to clam for the groomers thanks in advance

Well in Germany they don't use the clippers for Westies, it destroys his upper thick coat. We Handstrip them only. It costs more but it is better for the dog
I think she explained that professional or show Westies are hand-stripped, but this client wants a ‘pet-cut’ or as she repeatedly says a ‘commercial cut’. It’s what the dog owner wants that’s important.
2-time Westie owner here! Why do you shear Westies? Aren't you supposed to hand trim them by "plucking" the undercoat for health reasons?
Please elaborate as this seems to be a topic of discussion
@@GlobalGroomersTV I was told by my westies breeder that plucking the hair is crucial to westies not getting skin problems. That shaving them keeps their fur soft and more easily matted and skin not as protected. Stripping makes them have a hard outer coat, protecting the skin and keeping the follicles unplugged, leading to healthier skin. I couldn't find a groomer that had aby experience hand plucking. So I've used professional stripping tools on my westie since he was a puppy and he has a wonderful hard outer coat which repels dirt and he's never had any skin issues at all.
Hand-stripping of Westies (I’ve had several) is a choice. All ‘show’ Westies are hand-stripped, but most pet Westies are not. I cannot see how the grooming would affect the skin issues that many Westies have. That is a genetic predisposition. I’ve had puppies from the breeder Westies with some issues, I had a rescue with horrible skin and severe allergies which I was able to bring under control with diet and twice weekly special baths. I currently have a Westie that has never had sny skin issues, can eat anything and I wash her maybe 4 times a year. I groom her myself using the same equipment as this groomer. The groomer states that she’s doing a ‘pet grooming’ or ‘commercial cut’ and acknowledges that it’s different than a show dog. In fact the name of the video is ‘The Westie-Bear Cut’ and she says that what she calls this one. I groom my 12 year old myself since Covid and she is free of any skin issues.
Has this video been edited? I used to find it more useful now it’s not really about the actual grooming.
