Walnut/Maple/Purple Heart Cutting Board

In this video I glue up some end grain strips of walnut and maple along with some long grain Purple Heart strips to make a nice looking cutting board

The purple heart in the opposite grain direction will push the board to crack

Despite what you've been told, that's incorrect. Purple heart is not as susceptible to expansion and contraction as other woods. In most cases you'd be correct, it's not a great idea to alternate grain direction but in this case the board will be fine.

Be careful gluing end grain to long grain. They will expand at different rates. I've seen boards like this start to come apart.
