  • CBS 8 anchor Marcella Lee shares what happened to her son during a family ski trip in Denver, in case you and your family ever experience a similar situation.
Many people wear fitness trackers or smart watches. I wear an Apple Watch, and on our ski trip to Colorado last week, I believe one of the features on my watch helped save my 16-year-old son's life.
He is doing well and recovering now, but it was a big health scare for our family. We discussed the importance of sharing what we went through, in case any of you ever find yourself in a similar situation.

Actually it wasn't the Apple Watch. It was her. She saved her son. She thought to check his O2 blood saturation, she had to look up the threshold for medical attention, she took him to the ER. Everyone should get as much medical knowledge as they can and it looks like she already knew about altitude sickness. Docs aren't going to search for patients. You need to know enough to present your loved ones to a medic in time.
Anytime someone's lips or fingers turn blue, you need to go seek medical attention (unless of course your kid ate some blue candy). They're not getting enough O2 for whatever reason. He could have gotten better just driving him down the mountain with the windows open. But if he was blue already, he really should have gone to the ER for direct O2. O2 blood saturation finger measures are cheap (much cheaper than an Apple Watch) and literally measures how red your skin is on your index finger. If he was visibly blue with the naked eye, that's already quite bad.

These are really great features but then you have people at Masimo fighting Apple all the way to get these wonderful features removed from Apple watches! Plus this isn't the only kid Apple watches has saved either (they have saved kids lives that have irregular heart rhythms too) they have saved COUNTLESS people's lives due to this technology! But yet you still have Masimo backstabbing Apple to get Apple to remove this technology! Disappointing!
