Glad a lot of people realise shields, quickstep, perseverance and stomp counter the L1s pretty well but dont forget 3 simple things. 1. Rolls, still a slow greatsword so you can roll anything it does then backstab/R1 punish the recovery. 2. Spacing, you can very easily wiff punish these things. 3. R1 the L1, the Hyper Arnour on the L1s is not immediate so you interupt them reliably with anything at greatsword or faster speeds but everything previously mentioned is safer.
Rolls are less effective against this because they hit twice. Still work if you can time it well, but one fuck up costs you a huge chunk of health. I usually opt for a stomp or perseverance trade, you end up doing more dmg. Or y'know, just outspace them and attack after the final groundslam of the combo. Also thats just one thing, wheres the other 2? :'D
Pretty much any great hammer will counter these things 9/10 times. Ledo's and Vordt's in particular are extremely effective against these things if you're using a similar strength build.

One if the best combos you can do is running L1 -> L1 -> L1 -> R1 they roll after the running L1, they get roll caught by the first L1 to stun them for the second L1, and the R1 roll catches them.
John Freeman exactly, I don't have any problem dealing with this weapon cus I am heavy user of ultra greate swords Class &BNS Perseverance weapon art since Ds3 release, also UGS 2H Thrust attack can send the RNPGS user to a nother galaxy.
Oro, another great way to roll-catch combo with the dual ultras is to L1 L1 and then R1 R1. It works incredibly consistently if they roll into you, but the second R1 can miss if they roll away.
What are your thoughts on the Corvian Great Scythe? I thought it performs best on a hollow/luck build, with the added benefit of being edgier than if Slipknot wrote the soundtrack to Donnie Darko.
Yay another Arsenal!! Also wow I didn’t realize how little stamina the L1 uses up. That’s almost identical to a single R1 from a Scythe (my point of comparison since that’s my most recent build). That should take up a lot more stamina imho, I feel like the weapon would be more balanced if the full L1 combo expended 110% of your stamina at 40 END, so people would be a lot more reserved about L1 spamming lest they get punished hard afterwards with their 0 remaining stamina. Also, the L1 should be parryable as far as I’m concerned. You can backstab them if they L1 spam without hit-confirming, but having to rely on your opponent being a bad player isn’t reliable or enjoyable. Either way the weapon is obv countered by Perserverance, but I think having to resort to only a couple of hard counters is a boring way to balance a game, and forces homogenization of builds. Run into this weapon in invasions? Better pull out the caestus. It’s a boring, literal rock-paper-scissors situation. It’s a cool idea for a weapon and I enjoyed it for a bit, but it’s kinda of dull in practice, on both ends. EDIT: Also that push hitbox at 4:00 is ridiculous. I don’t see why that move needed that, it’s already got a silly amount of range, damage, and tracking. If it’s not parryable, why does it need a push hitbox and hyperarmor?
That L1 is actually really easy to outpace and punish. That's more in 1v1 though. They seem like a pretty good invasion weapon. Delaying that 3rd L1 is a great idea.
I know this is a bit random, but do you have any videos of your first playthrough of DS1 (or maybe 2nd or 3rd or 4th, essentially when you were still a noob) lying around that maybe you could upload? I know there are a few old videos on your channel but I just thought it would be really enjoyable to see you failing all the time lol
Hmm...Watching this makes me miss the days Oro would would in front of his opponents in kissing range, poking them occassionally, speaking about how he's fishing the parry, and then backstep parry them.
Here’s something interesting You can stomp through the first L1 of the ringed knight paired greatswords. I’m not sure why you take absolutely NO dmg while doing so but it’s neat
i must say i'm genuinely looking forward to DkS:R just in video form it'll be nice to see all the snowflakes from dark souls 3 struggle. it had been awhile since i even played dark souls 1 and it felt so weird and awkward playing the network test. but it was so enjoyable being back
These swords are still good, but for some reason everyone stopped using them after they got "nerfed." They're my favorite weapons to invade with atm and I'd recommend to everyone to give them a try. The first L1 is really good for rollcatching, it's got the rolling poke R1, and it's L1 combo and WA are still very powerful. Not to mention the running L1 has killed more than my fair share of fleeing hosts.
Instead of 3 L1s you could go for 2, following up with an instant R1, and if the target was spamming rolls the R1 will rollcatch em 100% of the time opening you up for another r1 because they re stunned. (L1 L1 R1 R1) Also if you hit em with the running L1 at point blank range the knockback from the lawnmower will guarantee the full aforementioned combo (Running L1, L1 L1 R1 R1) Can get pretty crazy against your everyday phantoms and hosts
If anybody cares, Gundyr's Halberd crushes this weapon. Its weapon art has a higher hyperarmor than RKGS L1, so if the opponent initiates the animation, you just charge them. Your damage will be higher and you will win.
14:14 You should be able to parry these things really. Great class can be paried as long as they are one-handed and technically these are being one-handed so why not? It would make fighting people with these a lot less shit.

Or roll and backstab, quicksteping all so makes them a joke, not to mention, just out space the with spears, the train is ultra telegraphed and almost all the moves leaves the user a sitting duck, Oro is owning face here cause he aint stupid, and most of the opponents are, top that off with some slight cherry picking and you got your self a badass video of these weapons one comboing everyine
Perseverance is the way to go against these things. A mace or cestus is godly. Just use your perseverance when you see them start the first L1 and you can out damage their hit with two or three of your own.
