  • In this video I show how to replace fluids for front differential, transmission, rear differential and do a oil change on engine. If you have a 2001-2009 full size ranger of any engine size this is the process of changing fluids. There may be slight physical changes such as the 01-04 has a solid rear axle instead of the independent but the process is the same. Below is list of fluids and amounts you’ll need to do the job. See below for list of models.

    Out of MANY videos on oil changes, yours was the first to actually show where the engine oil drain was...Thank you! Even the user and service manuals do not show exactly where it is.

      @@montemania198210I have a question have you ever put a snow blade on your ranger? I have a 2005 snow blade and bought the Polaris 2878011 HD Plow Mount. I’m trying to figure out how to attach a blade to this. Any information would help! Love your videos on these older rangers.

    There is a filter in line behind the sump tank at the bottom where the return line from engine comes in to oil tank that needs to be cleaned every other oil change just remove clean it and replace it no need to replace with new one just keep cleaned out its bad about collecting sludge and block return in that area . Good helpful video thanks .

      Thank you. Fuel filter is in-line close to gas tank. I have a video showing how to rebuild fuel system. Unfortunately Polaris stopped using grease fittings which was a stupid move. The only grease fitting on it is at the yoke for front driveshaft we’re it attaches to transmission.

      You aren't crazy! I have a 2005 and the fill plug is not in the same location as this video. It is an 8mm Allen (same as the drain plug) above on the right side of the transmission. I even looked in the owner's manual and mine is different. So strange.

  • @KevinBeGood

    I just picked up one of these rangers and it has a second battery under the seat right there by the oil reservoir. Is that normal why would it have 2 batteries? Did yours have 2? Do I need both?

  • @xraykadiddlehopper8067

    Attention! It takes almost a full qt to fill to the plug level on that rear diff. 18oz fills 3/4” below the fill plug.
    I filled mine to the bottom of the plug and it took a full qt. Opinions are 50/50 on whether fill to the bottom of fill plug is bad. Some do it as a rule. Some say OMG you’ll ruin your diff. 😅

    I have a 2004 model Polaris Ranger 4x4 that is shutting off after I run the machine for a few minutes. Once it cools it will crank up again. Your thoughts on this is appreciated. I've been told it could be the fan not working properly.

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před rokem

      Could be a number of things. However what comes to mind is something electrical is getting hot and shutting down. I would check when it happens the fuel pump make sure it’s pumping and also check for spark, could be pump or coil heating up and shorting out. If both are ok see if she’ll fire off with starting fluid, if it does then that’s a indication the carburetor is vapor locking.

    • @austinicholas
      @austinicholas Před rokem

      Had the same issue. Under the hood there are 3 black regulater boxes. The small bottom one regulates the fuel and pump. I jumped the outer two wires bypassing it. I installed a fuel pump with two outlets after the pump. One to carb and the other back to the tank which I drilled a hole and installed a grommet. Downside is the pump will always run when key is on. Upside you don't have to pay 250-300 for a used part if you can find it that is.

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety +1

      Thank you. Yes the only difference is yours has a SRA instead of the IRS. So your rear diff is part of axle housing. Same procedure removing fill plug, remove drain plug, fill to threads of fill plug hole.

    Do you ever get white milky slime under the oil cap?

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety

      No. Milk on cap is water/moisture in system. If drained oil is milky then it’s either coolant in system or water intrusion from drowning engine in water. (Seen bad oil cap let water in) If drained oil looks fine then it’s breather system in need of replacement. Milky condition is never good.

    • @mrdickjurgensen
      @mrdickjurgensen Před 2 lety +1

      In my high humidity, moist, summer environment (North Georgia), I've found a bit of milky coating under the oil cap but none in the oil itself. IMHO... little to worry about. It wipes away readily.

    • @montemania198210
      @montemania198210  Před 2 lety

      @@mrdickjurgensen good day sir. That is perfectly normal. Check your breather filter sometimes new one helps reduce it. Other than that it’s normal trust me I know humidity, Houston here lol.

    • @mrdickjurgensen
      @mrdickjurgensen Před 2 lety

      @@montemania198210 I'll check my breather filter as you suggest. I just changed my oil this morning after posting to this thread and my oil was quite dirty and long overdue for changing.... but there was no indication (thank goodness) of moisture in the oil itself. Great video BTW.... very inspiring/helpful indeed!
      On a different note: I took off my skid plate long ago so I'm careful where I drive my 6x6 Ranger 500. It makes inspections and maintenance on the underside of the UTV so much easier and cleaner.
