  • Rebuilding a mercedes sunroof with genuine parts is one of the most expensive jobs you can do. Needless to say, i will not be using genuine parts, but I will be rebuilding it and fully lubricating it before the paint job is completed and its time to reinstall.

Your knowledge and expertise relating to this car is amazing. You are the God of the W124. I have had mine for almost 25 years, and have learned so much as I continue to maintain it, and keep it looking like new. But you are at another whole level. I learn so much from your videos, thanks!

Thank you! I have a 1995 E300 SE, what lubricant do you suggest for the sunroof?

+1. .. MB has a specific sunroof lubricant. Sorry, don't know the part number off hand. Any competent MB parts counter professional will know though. It's not typical grease based or silicone-based. Pretty special stuff,, H2O proof to boot. Our w124 E320 coupes sunroof works like a champ.

@@Mikhanator i recently fell into this problem and all i had was the ole 40. i sprayed it on both sides of the whole mechanism and really just lubricated every part which helps it slide and i’ve had no issues with it since. i’m sure this lubricant they’re talking about is much better but for now wd-40 shall do the trick.

I wish W124s never had a sunroof. More trouble than it's worth. A nightmare if it doesn't work. And who uses it anyway? Not anyone in oz. If you want top down motoring best to get a convertible. A sun roof is for sun starved Brits.

Optional in some countries, i think standard for Australia on 6 cylinders from what i’ve seen. I agree i used to think they were great when I was young, they are in reality an expensive liability and a source of rust.
