Venice introduces groundbreaking entry fee for day-trippers

Venice has become the first city in the world to introduce an access charge to try to control the number of tourists trampling over its fragile streets.
The system went into effect at 8.30am on Thursday with checks carried out in a relaxed atmosphere at the city’s railway station and other major access points for arrivals.
Day-trippers are required to book and pay €5 for a QR code giving access to the city. Children under 14 and people in town for professional reasons are exempt.

EXCELLENT!!! Tens of thousands enter this beautiful city and through OVERCROWDING RUIN THE AMBIANCE AND THE DAILY DINING AND DRINKING HABITS OF THE LOCALS!!! - Moreover, invariably DO NOT SPEND MUCH!
HEREin England in the Cotswolds much has been ruined by "Tourists" not least the difficulty of locals trying to park, buy food or have bar lunches!!!! Worse still, are the prices in local bars, restaurants and cafes being exorbitantly high because of constant "passing trade"!!!! RUINOUS FOR LOCALS. TRIPLE THAT ENTRY FEE!!!
