  • Unitron Moxi Jump-R Rechargeable Hearing Aid Review | Unitron Discover Platform Moxi Jump & Moxi Fit. Dr. Cliff Olson, Audiologist and founder of Applied Hearing Solutions in Anthem Arizona, reviews the Unitron Moxi Jump R rechargeable hearing aid.
    Website: www.DrCliffAuD...
    Clinic Website: www.AppliedHea...
Unitron will be shipping their new Discover Platform Moxi Jump-R and Moxi Fit hearing aids on May 17th. The new Moxi Jump and Moxi Fit are part of their new line of devices that can connect to any Bluetooth device. Since Sonova owns both Phonak and Unitron, it was just a matter of time before Unitron started using the SWORD 3.0 chip that allows for Bluetooth connection to Apple & Android devices.
The similarities between the Unitron Moxi and Phonak Audeo Marvel don't end there. If you take a closer look at the Moxi Jump R's you can see that they use an identical charger and receiver wire as the Audeo Marvels. However, there are a few things that make the Jump R and Fit unique.
Let's take a look at the PROs:
    1. Connectivity - With the majority of smartphone users using Android devices, it only makes sense that they would develop a hearing aid that could connect to Apple and Android devices. This is what the SWORD 3.0 chip allows Unitron to do. With 4 wireless protocols at their disposal, it can wirelessly connect to almost any bluetooth device, and stream audio directly into your hearing aids without using an intermediary device like a neckloop. This means Music, Podcasts, Audiobooks, and Phone calls directly into your hearing aids.
    2. SoundNav 3.0 - This is Unitron's automatic program classifier that can automatically change between different program settings depending on the environment you are in. If you are in a quiet environment, the hearing aids know this and will put you into the correct program settings. If you transition into a noisy environment, the hearing aids will know this as well, and put you into ideal program settings for those environments. Basically, the Unitron Moxi Jump R does everything for you so you don't have to worry about it.
    3. Lithium Rechargeability - Up until now, Unitron has only used Silver-Zinc rechargeable hearing aids. However, the new Moxi Jump R Hearing Aids now use a lithium battery. Lithium has proven to be the most reliable form of rechargeable battery technology. The devices also automatically turn on when you remove them from the charger and off when you place them inside the charger.
    4. FLEX: UPGRADE - This is a very unique feature to Unitron that allows their hearing aids to be upgraded from a lower level of technology to a higher level of technology without having to buy new hearing aids or exchanging your current hearing aid hardware. This means you can start with a lower level of technology and upgrade down the road if you need a higher level of hearing aid performance.
As awesome as the new Discover Moxi Jump R hearing aids are, there are still a few cons.
#1. Limited Battery Life - At only 16 hours, some hearing aid users may not get a full days worth of use out of a single charge. Especially if you require a lot of amplification using a power receiver, and if you stream a lot of audio and phone calls which create more battery drain.
#2. The Thickness - Rechargeable hearing aids are naturally larger than most disposable models, but the Moxi Jump-R is pretty thick. If you wear glasses, expect them to push your ears off to the side.
#3. The Gradual Roll-out of additional models and form factors - This seems to be a trend in the hearing aid industry at the moment, but we still don't know when a Telecoil version will become available or what other form factors are going to become available in the future. So if you are looking for some specific features not offered in the Moxi Fit and Moxi Jump R hearing aids, you might just have to play the waiting game.
Cons aside, the Unitron Moxi Jump R and Moxi Fit build upon an already solid offering from Unitron. They have leapfrogged in front of some other manufacturers in connectivity and would be a great option for your next set of hearing aids.
Just remember, it does not matter how great your hearing aids are if they have not been programmed using Real Ear Measurement. REMs are the only way to ensure your hearing aids have been programmed correctly to your hearing loss prescription. If you don’t know what REMs are, I highly recommend watching this video: • The Most Important HEA...

Thanks Cliff, another great video, very informative! Coincidentally my wife just made an appointment for me for 12/18 with a local hearing professional and they offer the Unitron as part of what's now accepted on our Medicare supplemental United Healthcare policy. I'm currently using Resounds (from COSTCO bite my tongue), and prior to this I was using STARKEY's Halo, so I'm a long time user of Bluetooth enabled hearing aids. Just not sure if the rechargeables will suffice due to the short battery life, so i might just go with the 312 batteries. Hey, it's the same size I'm using now! Thanks as always for your GREAT Content! Hoping one day to add some CZcams hearing videos to my channel!

Hi. Not sure if I am soon enough here but I just got a pair of these. They must have fixed the battery issue since this video because I have mine in over 12 hours and there is still 60% charge left. I am happy with them.

I'm in the trial mode. Have trialed two models of Phonak Marvel (top and one level below - both very good - can hear voices quite well but both had issues with Iphone - I could hear but the person on the other end could not hear me. I've been told today that this has now been corrected and needs to be fixed by the audiologist. However today I received my trial Unitron Discover. They are good also. Have only had them one day and haven't had any problems yet. I would really like to see a comparison of these TWO as they are definitely not cheap so it would be nice to see what each has compared to the other. I have searched the internet but these two models are not yet compared to each other. (I also had trialed another brand which were horrible, all voices were distorted and I couldn't hear them properly anyhow and everyone I spoke to had to repeat themselves and were as frustrated as I was). I have to make a decision within the next two weeks probably so would really appreciate knowing if there is a comparison between the Phonak Marvel and the Unitron Discover available anywhere (behind the ear but using batteries - not rechargeable).

Dr. Cliff...I am currently wearing a set of Unitron T-Moxi Fits on a 1 month trial basis...after watching many of your videos you convinced this 63 yr old retired south Louisiana firefighter to go to a audiologist before any purchase...Thanks and I did!!! my audiologist diagnosed my hearing loss has atypical moderate to severe mid range hearing loss...I have to admit my wife and family were right...i have been missing alot with my hearing loss...
my question to you...this is my first time to wear hearing aids and Im looking for your recommendations and comments as to the devices I'm wearing now...battery operated 312...not looking for devices with all the bugs and whistles...just a solid pair for a very active senior citizen...my wife and I love to hunt fish and play lots of pickleball...and travel as much as possible...
sorry its so long ...but i really do like your videos and look forward to hearing from you soon...

Hi Dr Cliff, and thanks for the informative videos! You do a great job. I have the Moxi Jump R hearing aids, this morning after charging them all night, when I opened the charger 1 of my aids was flashing green, and the other didn't have any lights on? Recently I took the aids on holiday with me and now I'm not sure now if I mixed up the original usb wall plug and usb cable for the charger, is this important to have the original usb cable and wall plug for the charger to operate correctly?

    Dear Dr Clifford,
Great in depth reviews and you are very knowledgeable. Keep it up! Question: How long is the warranty on the device and what if the rechargeable battery stops working? Any likelihood of having remote assist or tinnitus suppression? Is R9 significantly better than the R7? Mahendra Mehta, MD.

    • @DrCliffAuD
      @DrCliffAuD  Před 4 lety

Thanks Mahendra, the warranty usually depends on the level of technology. The higher the tech level, the longer the warranty. Usually 3 years for the highest level devices. Not sure about the future of remote assist or tinnitus. R9 vs R7 depends on if you are okay with your hearing care provider being limited on how they can custom program your devices.

    • @mahendramehta7631

    • @bluetideuk

I have the marvel r30. I'm finding the battery is just about right it lasts me all day though if I have done allot of streaming I have them die in the evening so couldn't imagine having something with a smaller battery. The Bluetooth is hit and miss, streaming music works most the time though keep cutting out is in my right pocket( I only wear one in my left ear.) Also I'm finding with only wearing in one ear is some parts of songs go unheard as they are on the right stream which I don't have!. Bluetooth calls unless I'm in a silent room people complain of a bad line and can't hear me over background noise. I had a checkup today an had some reprogramming done(which I hope improves my hearing of speech) and my audiologist tried to suggest the reason the person on the other end can't hear me well is I need to hold my phone directly Infront of my face this can't be right.
