I like your point #2 - Playing slowly. I have learned to slow down a lot when practicing no matter how difficult or simple the piece. It's the only way to catch 'small' movements that is so crucial in playing the entire piece effortlessly and smoothly later on. I lack patience because I want to get there fast but the quality of the music suffers. Thank you for posting this informative and quality video as always!
I saw John Williams in concert periodically remove his left hand hand from the fret board while playing. Almost like 1 single shake of the hand by the downward motion of it. He would put it right back on and continue and not lose any time, but I think he was also resting his hand like your “pillows”
Thank you millions Beatrix for sharing your wisdom, I really love listening to you! All your advise works perfectly for me. (I find the background music rather distracting and you are soo good!)
Hi Beatrix, your tips are very effective and really well explained. I have been watching some videos on technique and there are few videos that carefully deal with how to reduce tension not only in the fingers, but in the neck, spine, shoulders, etc. It all starts with proper warm-up, posture and “pillows points” as you well said 👍🏻 Congrats 👏🏻
Really useful video. I am trying hard to avoid getting tension in my right hand when playing. So good to get your thoughts. Hadn’t heard of leaning back a little for posture!
Thank you so much for these tips! I was very worried because my recital is coming and I've been feeling a lot of tension... so I will implement this from now 😊
Don't worry, just lay back a little and you'll be great! Good luck for your cocert, also, I so envy you for having a recital, I havent played irl for 1,5 years :(
Thanks so much Beatrix, your videos are always helpful, I watch them twice, I enjoyed them a lot, musicality, technique, expression, pillows for distressing muscles, crescendos, decrescendos, makes guitar interpretation becomes alive and get personality. Ergonomic body positions are also a very good idea for having a painless practices. Warm up before and after practice it is also a must, I loved your guitar lift. Thanks again for taking time creating such amazing videos and for sharing them with us. May God always bless you.

Thanks a lot , nothing unknown , but so often forgotten !! 👍
Resting point tip is very interesting, definitely going to try that , left hand cramp has always plagued me and injured me , barre chords biggest culprit
Hello Beatrix! I'm a classical guitar player and I wanted to thank you for what you're doing, your channel is just amazing, I'm in love with it! Cannot make myself stop watching the videos, so much useful information and such a sincere presentation. It's a shame there wasn't anything like this when I was a student. But it's never too late to learn :) I wanted to ask you what size of guitar lift are you using? will be grateful for your answer!
Very useful! Has heard this many times. But it`s one thing what we have heard and what we do. Very good to get the oportuinity to repeat! You have done a clear presentation! Thanks a lot for good edvises! //Tobias Nilsson
Thoughts on playing cold (no warm-up) to simulate a performance scenario? Or are you always warmed up before you play for an audience? Do you think playing cold is a skill in itself?
I think some people are better in it, some worse, but no one isplaying as good with cold hands as after a proper warm up. Or maybe theyca play quite good, but it causes several issues afterwards. Imagine you goto the gymor do sports without warming up. The next day it will hurt much more than with warm up. Ad once or twice it happens but I''m sure if someone playes without warming up always that will have it's impact later in the future
I had a guitar lift, it was great for holding the instrument in a good position, but it didn't last long. The threads for the screws in the pads were made from extremely brittle plastic that crumbled really easily, rendering it useless.
1-Do you mean 42 and 3 1/2 years at it isn't being trained and patient enough?. 2-Watch out though for that head butting goat there on your back ground. Or is it on a Reynolds' phone sevice add?. 3- Do play on, but aelso...Shema!!! a la Lazarus' Maria for she chose the best part for herself, like some people only found out too late in life.
11:32 Love the drawing of pillows.

It's a very useful instructional video. Good job! I've already known these tips but often tend to forget about them...
Yes, don't worry, I also rediscover knowledge I already knew time to time

Yes I'm pretty sure too, because as I said in the video, with practice you'll need less time to relax your hands over the time.

I talk about barre chords in my latest left hand related video on my channel, it’s about how to increase the difficulty gradually. Maybe give it a go!

There's a mall typo on the guitar technique hashtag, thanks for the tips and all best from Mexico!
Thank you 😊
rest before tension, thank you
You play so Beautiful; Taz

May I ask what kind of strings you are using? Those basses look reddish, a lot like the Aquila loaded CD type strings.
sure, basses are Aquila rubino, trebles are Galli-Genius titanium

Whats playing in the background ?
The link for the guitar lift doesn’t seem to work.
I do have one, but it is pretty uncomfortable (eBay made in China 😢) even after I altered it!
Found it. Blimey! That’s expensive for a piece of acrylic, suction cups, and a foam rubber edging strip.
No😢😢
kurzgesagt brids?
yes they are :)
