  • Welcome back to another video, and in today's video we are going to be flying from Melbourne down to Hobart on a Qantas 717 aircraft. This will be my first time flying on the Qantas Boeing 717 and most likely the last as they will be phased out of operation towards the end of the year, so I am excited to fly on this aircraft today from Melbourne to Hobart.

    Great review Luke. Long live this amazing byproduct of McDonnell Douglas era! Such a cool aircraft with surprisingly few ever built! Will be sad to see it go at QLink!

      Thanks mate! Yeah I’m very glad I got to finally experience this beautiful aircraft! According to my buddy Mr google… there’s less than 100 currently in operation and due to their age I’m sure it won’t be long until most are gone.

    Best ever seating position is at the rear of this awesome B717, ideal window seat is right by the engine & feel that powerful take off thrust., awesome flight review as always👍

    Great video, Luke! Sorry to see the 717 fading away. The engines in the back are loud but music to us avgeek’s ears. 😊 The upside to having the engines in the back is the front is very quiet. I enjoyed my visit to Hobart many years ago. Hope you enjoyed your trip as well.

      Thanks Michael! Yeah a mate did mention that if you sit right at the front it’s awfully quiet and an odd feeling. Hobart was great, definitely a place I’d like to return to. Thanks for the comment and all the best!

    I'm old enough to remember flying the DC9! Hahaha.... I was surprised at how quiet the 717 is by comparison, and yes, I sat in your row to take it all in. 😅
    The most surreal experience is flying this aircraft in business class... There is almost NO engine noise at all! Only the loud hush of slipstream once you're up in the air.
    I am going to miss the 717!

      That’s awesome! I would have loved to have flown on the DC9 and DC10! Reminds me of my early flight simulator 2000 days… tonnes of McDonnell Douglas Aircraft! That’s super interesting to hear about the business class seats and sound! I’m keen to try the Fokker100 at some point as I’m not sure how much longer VA will have those around!

    Hello Luke I hope you are OK mate.This flight of yours reminded me of the past years around the 70s and 80s when the T-tail planes were the true workhorses for airlines around the world.I have flown with 727s DC-9s MD80s and for once on a 717 from Athens to Santorini island.My last flight on a T-tail jet was on an Alitalia's MD-80 Super from Rome to Venice and back.I really enjoyed all these flights with these special birds.See you on the next,Cheers from Athens

      Hey Yannis, doing well over here.. can’t complain. Hope all is well for you. Great to hear all your experiences mate and they certainly are special! I’d like to fly on the Fokker100… (similar design) I think there’s only a few here with Virgin Australia but I’ll have to look into that more! All the best mate! 👍

    ahhh, is so sad to see the 717s go, such a interesting looking plane, unfortunately i haven't flown on, but its sad to see them go, at least the a220s are a good plane to replace them!

    • @LukeCrisp
      @LukeCrisp  Před 24 dny +2

      Yeah they are certainly unique! I’d also like to fly on the Fokker 100 which looks quite similar. Couldn’t agree more… after flying on the a220… it certainly is a great replacement. Cheers 👍

    Hi Just seen your video just now, An interesting plane for sure. I'm not sure if I ever been on one I think I have, Had Qantas ever operated one from Kalgoorlie to Adelaide like in 1997, that was when I last visited WA, 27 years ago. Hopefully it won't be the last time and last time I was in Australia was in March 2014, did not get the chance to visit WA, but hopefully next time, anyway back on topic a great work horse for sure though its sad to see it go. But then again such is life isn't it and soon there will be an Airbus A220 doing this route.

      @LukeCrisp  Před 21 dnem

      Thanks for the comment! Yeah I honestly wouldn’t know if it could have been that plane then. WA is a great place… love Perth and I’m yet to explore outer areas. Yeah it is a shame to see the 717s go but after flying on the A220… I’m also looking forward to the new age planes taking their place. Cheers 👍

    Need seat dimensions in standard units. My kids don't know the old units of measurement.

    • @LukeCrisp
      @LukeCrisp  Před 24 dny

      I source my information from the Qantas website which also lists in inches… alongside other sources such as seat guru… I’ve never heard other aviation vloggers mention anything other than imperial units unfortunately.
