    Dietrich could easily been nominated for a best-actress Oscar for her performance in this film. She was THAT good!

      Apparently you are in a minority. She received outstanding critical acclaim for her performance and three years later appeared in a substantial role in Stanley Kramer's
      "Judgement in Nuremberg". Musically, she was a stylist, and her concert appearances were always heavily attended if not sold out. She was a legend.

      @@Zva26 You must be stone deaf.I've seen her concert in London,she just 'tee dummed' her why through rubbishy old show tunes,to an audience of sentimental old queens.If think she could act then good luck to you,certainly not my idea of a Wendy Hiller or Maggie Smith.

    God she can't act. I know her character was setting it all up, so some might excuse her "overacting" here as a character choice, but I think that's giving her too much of the benefit of the doubt. Her line deliveries are always awful.

    • @georg_couch
      @georg_couch Před 3 lety +1

      I thought she was excellent until she went for the "damn you" part. The building up to it was brilliant. The delivery itself was iffy, I agree. But she's great at the moment of the big reveal, by the end. I don't think she was generally suited to acting "big". She was mesmerising in Morocco and all her films with Von Sternberg really. In Witness for the Prosecution, she was indeed somewhat uneven.
