I bought a travel router but haven't tried it yet. Thanks for the info!

You will need a repeater for it to work. I’m hoping yours will

Did you run a distance test? How many cabins away could see your router's SSID?
Did you run a speedtest? I'm just curious what bandwidth did you get on Icon of the Seas.

I didn’t do a distance test to be honest. I would expect maybe 2-3 cabins down. The walls are all metal so it’s not going to reach far

I can tell you from my home version that it would probably get to cabins next to you and across from you but not much further than that You might get two rooms over but that would be weak..

Tony, just so I'm clear; when you do-12) Delete the area that says YOUR ROUTER and put in the Private WIFI address you copied. You are changing your router's address to the same address as the ship's private WIFI? This way your phone or tablet will connect to which every WIFI is active be it the cruise ships or your router? Thank You for a great video.

Yes basically you need to clone whatever MAC address that first connect to the cruise ships WiFi. So the router will act as your device you purchased and can send signals to whatever else device you want.
      Hopefully that makes sense

I’m sorry but I can’t seem to find the area that says “Your Router”. Does that only appear when you’re on a cruise? I’m testing it at home first.

I haven't looked but he said that it's under "more" So it doesn't say it at first you have to hit the more first to find it I don't know if this helps or not

Thank you! Unfortunately, carnival blocks the admin site now so we can’t even access it for setup.

You think it will work on carnival?

I used it on the carnival elation this past January. I will warn you that on their website it does say not to bring routers or internet equipment

Sorry, but maybe I'm not understanding it correctly, but couldn't you just set up your router as a repeater (step 1-6) and just connect to your router to access WiFi? Why do you need to do steps 7-13? I'm using the same router you use and using my home WiFi as a test, I connected my router to my home WiFi network and made the router a repeater and connected my laptop and phone to the internet through my router. Do cruise ship WiFi network work differently?

    • @worldoftony469
      @worldoftony469  Před měsícem +2

The reason that cruise ship Wi-Fi works differently is because you have to connect to their Wi-Fi system with a password. Whenever you connect your router to your normal at home, you don’t have to have a certain username and password to actually connect to the Wi-Fi i.e you just connect your ethernet cable to your modem.
It would basically be trying to connect to somebody else’s router such as at your neighbors house without any physical cables if I had to give an example
You couldn’t get into their Wi-Fi network without the username and password.
If you have never been on cruise ship WiFi this is likely going to be confusing but hopefully makes sense
