Patti isn’t comparable to any other singer on Earth that lady has been to outer space and back without NASA, that voice has power and longevity, and the way she can do hours of a concert with the same power in her voice

No maybe she didnt out sell her peers or get as many grammys but she touched waay more souls with her voice simply because she was singing from her soul and heart. who sing with more emotions than she does???? Who else bring tears to grown men eyes?? Nobody has on the level that she has.... Queen Patti

@@COMPACTTVHD Patti is a great entertainer with a powerful soprano in her prime, but the quality of sound and pitch and depth, and diction were always lacking. It makes me laugh when her fanatics, usually screaming queens, put her as the greatest and above Aretha Franklin, which is plain madness. The sound of Arethas voice, at any stage in her career, wins over Patti every time, you just cannot compare the two voices, Patti has volume and range, Aretha has perfect-pitch, beauty, depth, power and soul unmatched, plus technically, there isn't anything Aretha could not do, she could impersonate every other singer just for fun, but when things were serious and that woman sang, especially her recorded voice from 1967 and 1968, her voice has never been matched for clarity and resonance. Patti Labelle said in interview some years ago, "You just can't find a voice like that", she said recently, "Aretha is the best singer of all time, I would be her background singer for life". Love Patti, her dramatic voice can lift people out of their seats in her prime, but her voice is a an off-pitch off-key screech now and he belts are weakening and thin. But please, stop with the ridiculous comparissons with Aretha, the greatest voice of all time.

@@markdrinkwater1508 That may be your opinion, but Aretha voice lost a lot of its appeal as well. Early in her career she did have clarity in her voice, but due to a lot of smoking her voice became strained and choked. To me it sounded like she was trying to sing with a marshmallow stuck in her throat. I hate when people try to compare these two women, but as far as vocal power goes Patti in her prime could blow Aretha off the stage. I love Aretha and Patti. They are both queens in my eyes.

many, many years ago.....I was 12, to be exact. Me, my Mom, her stepmother, my Aunt and a family friend and his wife, went to see Ms Patti at the old Warner Theater in my hometown, DC. She was touring on her "Released" album..and back in those days, Patti had a habit of making her entrance in the outfits that she wore on the album cover. So, here she comes on stage in all white...white wide brim hat..and a white poncho and a white skirt under that, in these thigh high boots. i'll never forget that....and a BIG marquee in neon lights, behind her w/ "Patti" inscribed on the display.
but the thing I remember most about that concert, was making my way to the old restroom downstairs while she was singing "Don't Make Your Angel Cry" (not my favorite of hers), I think...so I get down there, and a toilet was broken and everything in it had run out on the floor. It was so bad, that it flowed out onto the carpet in the waiting area there next to the restrooms, because the floor drains had obviously, backed up. So the carpet was flooded, too. Im standing there with water squishing around my shoes...there must've been about 7 or 8 of us wanting to use the restroom. And right when the toilet stopped all this noise and carryin' on, a rat the size of a football, came running out of the same restroom..a big black one. Hey, you never saw 8 negroes running back up a flight of stairs, so fast in your damn life!!!!
Thats why I called it "the old Warner Theater" 'cuz yrs later it was renovated. But it didnt matter that it was old as Hell..if we found out on the radio, that Patti was coming to DC to perform at a damn roller skating rink, me and everybody's Mama would be there..because in her prime, you weren't going to find a better performer. No way..

It’s not really fair to compare Patti to Aretha’s career. Aretha achieved super stardom at a very early age whereas most people take time before they reach that level. Aretha also paved the way for Patti and Gladys and the other countless singers who came after her. I’m glad Patti finally achieved the super stardom she wanted. That’s all that counts.

You will not disrespect Aretha’s legacy by thinking either Gladys or Patti are remotely in the same league. While all 3 are from the same era, ARETHA, by far was and is still the most successful.
She has 18 competitive Grammys and 2 honorary Grammys with a total of 44 nominations. Gladys has 7, 0, and 22 respectively. Patti stands at 2, 0, 13. Aretha’s win percentage is at 41%. Gladys’ is at 31% while Patti won 15% of the times nominated. WINNER: ARETHA!!!!
Aretha earned 20 number one hits on the Billboard charts. She has the most in history. Gladys (including her work with the Pips) has 11. Patti has 2. Aretha has more than the two of them combined. WINNER: ARETHA.
On an International front, not only has she had a sold out international tour, Aretha has not only dominated US charts but she has top hits on the charts in Canada, France, and the UK. Neither Gladys nor Patti have achieved this. WINNER: ARETHA
Aretha sold nearly 100 million records, while I could find no reliable sources for the number Gladys and Patti have sold. WINNER: ARETHA.
Aretha has earned the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She is slated to earn a Congressional Gold Medal. Not to mention she became the youngest person to receive the Kennedy Center honors. WINNER: ARETHA.
Aretha, joining the likes of Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, graced the cover of TIME MAGAZINE in a way that only the most influential and successful have. When did Time give Gladys or Patti the honor? Crickets. WINNER: ARETHA.
Between these three ladies, their music has been streamed on Pandora over 1.4 billion times!!! That’s incredible. Let’s look at the numbers. Gladys has over 61 million Pandora streams. Patti has over 200 million streams. While the Queen-Aretha-has over 1.2 BILLION STREAMS. That’s right, 1.2 BILLION and that’s only Pandora!!!
I can go on and on about the countless things Aretha has done that Gladys and Patti could only dream of. Gladys, in her day, giving credit where it is due, was a great singer but there is only one Aretha. Patti ... well she sells more pies than albums and even the pie isn’t good!
