It seems like wherever you go shopping that many of the stores are closing down today. I went to the Beverly Center on La Cienega Blvd. to find out if the mall is dead I remember this mall being really popular about 20 years ago I have not step foot in the mall since over 15 years so I wanted to find out myself if it’s still worth it to go there

Same here. Not doing well in my 50's for my knees and feet hurt too much and too tired and heavy feeling to handle working full time like when I was younger. So I live on much less while the inflation is horrific. I too was able to travel, shop, eat out, and engage life more when I was young up until about 2022. I find I'm unemployable since 2022 so I just live simple off my $1700 a month Veterans disability watching CZcams instead of doing things I want to do like travel and fishing. I've tried a lot in recent years to get a job at VA or through a VA case manager, but was told I don't qualify for anything like compensated work therapy program for unemployed veterans despite having a degree and a clean background. It's simpler to not have a car, but public transit is limited. I live in Salt Lake which sorta a smaller version of LA is many regards minus the cost and those trees and plants. I don't' see the economy and country getting better during the 10 to 20 years we have lef on our lives. America is just shell of it's former glory and going down which saddens me to no end so these videos while we're still here give us some quality of life.

I worked at the Beverly Center Mall 39 years ago. I'm now 72 and live in North Georgia. I worked at Optical Fashion Center and Dr. Levelthal's Vision Care Center. I met a lot of celebrities. I remember seeing Joan Collins coming up the first escalator you were on. When I came back from lunch, she was at my workplace. I met so many celebrities there and my favorite was Patrick Stewart. Very cool guy and I spoke with him for a long time. At that time the Borg episodes were in production. I met Eddie Van Halen, Elton John, Muhammad Ali, Marvin Hagler, Marie Osmond, Cher, Robert Vaughan, Fran Jeffries, the guy who played Horshak in Welcome Back Kotter, Pepe Ludmir from Peru, Whoopi Goldberg, Stephen Bishop, and Bruce Springsteen. That's just who I can remember. Thanks for the update on the Beverly Center!

Sadly, except for a handful that are still surviving, enclosed malls are on the endangered list. Many have already closed, while others are becoming ghost towns with empty stores throughout. I was the store manager of Taco Bell on Beverly Blvd just down the street from Beverly Center in 1979/1980, before the mall even opened. It was quite exciting when it did open, and it was THE place to go in the area. It was a different time. I’ve shopped and worked at the Beverly Center for years. I think one of the biggest downsides to it is that it doesn’t have a food court. On top of that, shoplifting and smash and grabs have become so common in California it makes people feel uneasy working and shopping in malls. Also the Beverly Center tries to cater to both the high end crowd and the average Joe but I think these days they’re losing both of them while trying to maintain their identity as a mall. For me these days I’d rather drive a little further and go to Glendale Galleria or Culver City mall where there is free parking, a food court, a gym, more stores for the working class people and feels a little safer.

Hey Mike! With the excessive high retail crime going on now, some stores now monitor and limit the number of people that can be inside the store at one time. These stores set a limit for the number of people that can be inside. Another way of controlling and deterring retail theft. I was at a mall one day and the Vans store and Crocs store had a line outside the store to get in to shop.

I'm lucky to be getting old. Remember when Del Amo mall site was open fields and swamp where we caught turtles & lizards. The 91 freeway didn't exist & others only partially built. Botanical Garden in PV was a dump site. Dominguez Hills was open space & oil derricks. Didn't have to pay to park at the beach. Marineland, Nike missle base, and lots of snakes in Palos Verdes. No traffic family Sunday drives. Kids roamed the streets on bikes & shot bb guns in the open fields. Huge naval base & shipyard in San Pedro /Long Beach. The Pike & POP. No skyscrapers in downtown L.A. Still had oranges, cows, and dairys around. Not much of anything in Orange /Ventura Counties were mostly small towns and agriculture. Ocean Blvd in Long Beach was full of sailors & peep shows. Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was not fancy at all same nor was State Sreet in Santa Barbara. Disneyland was an inexpensive family oriented destination (same as Knoxs). Would spot celebreties around the westside & Hollywood no big deal. Pace of life in SoCal was much slower & was known to be "laid back". The SoCal from my childhood is a long gone cherished distant memory.

There was a Rexall Drugstore across the street that had everything. Bullock's Dept Store once had the space that Macy's now occupies. Traffic is crazy in this area on account of Cedar's Sinai Hosp. 1-2 blocks away from the mall. I've been visiting Cedars more recently-a hazard which comes with age.
