It’s nice seeing the vintage small engines brought back to life instead of being replaced by a cheap harbor freight engine
it’s what i love to do. they don’t deserve to be trashed, they were built too well.
Ya the old bs engines are pretty bulletproof vs Chinese one time use machines these days.
I picked up a Chinese carb for my Briggs snowblower and it was total junk. I just needs the outer bowl housing so luckily the clone was spot on ... rest was terrible plastic and cheap gaskets made of rubber bands.
Couldn’t agree more. Watching this to work on my 8hp bs on an early 70s snapper. Mowing season is around the corner and I’m so glad I found this
I love the old Briggs engines but they aren’t built as well as some may think, the kool bore engines aren’t all that great.
Always nice watching a small engine resto, I like the amount of content you include
Thank you! it’s also cool we have like the same number of subs haha
This is great! Finally found something that will help me out! Thank you so much!
good work, no music, just the important i love it.
thank you so much!
Good vid! I always wipe the oil off of the valve tappet, and mark an I on the intake tappet, and an E on the exhaust with a Sharpie marker, as they may not always be the exact same length. I also check the tappet clearance before fully assembling the engine, I have found tight clearances many a time. The valves wear lower, so the clearance reduces as the engine wears. Sometimes I have to file the side of the valve below the retainer so it will slide thru the guide, if you have to remove the valve, a normal flat bastard file will fit into the valve spring pocket.
Nice video. Love the push mower with the aftermarket exhaust😂
Thanks! the exhaust on the mower is for my go kart, but i put it on my lawnmower for a little bit just for fun. i have now made a custom exhaust header for it that actually is sleek and fitting for it, and it sounds awesome! thanks for watching!
Well done 👍
nice restoration
Your video really helpt me!! big up !!
I have this exact engine on a walk behind leaf blower (it's an MTD air sweeper and the engine was made in 1989 if you're wondering.) And it works but of course the roof sprung a leak and water got in the carb so I have to take the tank off because it's a weird type of carb like the one used in the engine shown in this video. I'll have to do it soon because fall is approaching and I kinda need it.
very impressive, i have one i need to rebuild. it's beautiful.
Go for it! And thank you!
Thankyou for your youtube site. This is very informative. I have 2 x Norlett Beaver Powerspades in pieces with two 40 year old 2.5hp Briggs & Stratton engines. Both were dirty cruddy non runners. But today I finished my first, with your video help. Only thing is i would like to have one engine using electronic ignition coil. But cannot find anywhere.
Glad to know my video helped you! This one does not use points ignition, it is an electronic ignition, that they call “magnetron” ignition! they’re easier to work with, but the points setup delivers a spark at much lower speeds.
The indestructible engine. These things live forever. Probably will be running for 40 more years
with proper maintenance itll be running strong in 300 years
This man has a performance exhaust on his mower🤣 great video
all in the name of MO POWAH BABEEHHH
😂😂 thanks for watching!!

This is top 5 most reliable engines ever built.
Love :D
Thanks, I got one of these from my grandma. It’s sat in the garage for a few years but I’ve just taken it down. Hopefully it’ll be fixed by tomorrow!
good luck! thanks for watching!
Told ya id watch it
It’s really surprising, I think you’re the youngest on CZcams to do full B&S engine restorations. Well done to you and your videos! (PS: my English maybe imperfect because I am French. Greetings from France 👋)
Thank you so much for watching! that’s cool that you’re from France! and no, your english seemed fine to me!
and you might be correct, I am 15 years old so I might be the youngest.
@@WildfoxFabrication According to my research I have found no one other than you. I'm almost 17 years old and i don't have as much mechanical knowledge 😅
4:19 story of my life right there
Awesome video man.
I have a question about the valves. After removing the valve springs my exhaust valve only comes out half way and the intake is pretty much stuck completely it only moves about a millimeter or two? Thank you
This can happen sometimes due to decades of wear and tear on the engine, you basically just have to rip them out and hope for the best, you may potentially need new valves
Nice! I have never had one of these that doesn't have some scoring in the bore, IDK why. It's funny, I do the same thing with my old oil, I have an old 1 gal Arizona bottle lol. They're great for storage and you can make some nice oil catch pans with them. The back panels of these engines are always a pain! I usually loosen them with a screw driver and then use a 3 jaw puller to get them off. Can't wait to see part 2! What color are you going to do?
Im doing white like it was originally with some black accents. storm trooper 5 horse.
@@WildfoxFabrication Cool! That's going to look great!
HAHAHAHAHAHAAA! Love the header on your mower! Can you tell me what the heighth is of a 5hp and a 3.5 hp?
Should be some proud parents!
Lol I wish
i dont know if this is a dumb question but would the S&B 5hp have enough juice to do a burnout on a go kart with thin tires?
Possibly. With a centrifugal clutch probably not but if you got a torque converter on there it probably would
I'm doing 2 Briggs&Stratton 3hp at the moment. The points were messed up and I'm having hard time finding the electronic spark kit to do away with the points. Any help?
I would just keep the points, it’s a lot easier to find a points rebuild kit than it is to convert to electronic ignition
hey man great video but what is the ser. number for yours mine is all rusted up
the model number is 130202, idk what the serial number is as I sold the engine a few months ago
@@WildfoxFabrication i appreciate it so much thank you
Where can I find info on what oil to use? I have a 1977 7hp similar to yours.
10w30 works great for normal temperature operation, use something a little lower for winter
@@WildfoxFabrication would that or sae 30 be better to use? I found an old manual that says to use sae 30, but oil quality has gone up since it was made and that may affect it
@@CamoCollie they're old and built like tanks, if there’s oil in it its good to go 😂😂
Would you happen to know what size the bolts are that attaches the flywheel housing to the motor?
They are 7/16 coarse thread
@@WildfoxFabrication gotcha thanks so much. How long are they? Probably half inch?
@@bassman8990 they’re not long, probably about a half inch yeah
@@WildfoxFabrication gotcha yea its the 3 small bolts that hold the cowl on the motor
@@WildfoxFabrication does that Motor take the regular SAE 30 oil?
what are you doing in your dads garage!
Ive....... adopted it. Yeah, that’s it
Where do you get rebuild parts at?
I just buy mine on Amazon
@@WildfoxFabrication do you have links by chance?
No hay chispa
I’m in the middle of rebuilding the same motor but when I toke the flywheel cover of I got swarmed with hornets
Bruh
I have one but I don't no witch fuel cqn anyone tell me?
Regular gasoline but I recommend ethanol free
This was the good old days for b&s back then they were bulletproof...too bad the q.c. Went to hell and everything today made in China is worthless.
2tak motor

why dont you talk when you do this stuff, I have no idea of what half the crap your doing is if you don't say anything
