The Finnish saying goes: “There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing”. The Winter War completely culminated in this saying.
23:05 actually this is little bit hard subject to Finns. It's part of our culture that we don't celebrate and worship individual war heroes. We honor war veterans and that entire generation with respect and seriousness - very quiet way I would say and we think about them all. Two wars and the difficult times that followed are a very serious matter. Häyhä is a decorated soldier, but that whole generation was full of brave men and women who sacrificed themselves for the sake of a small country. Sabaton's production is high quality, but many other videos about Häyhä cause little bit uncomfortable a cult-like following and memes, which most Finns don't like at all. Häyhä himself was a very humble man, as Finns usually are, and i'm almost certain he wouldn't like being singled out.

"Sisu of Finns" describes very well the mentality of Finns.
The Finns are tougher than others, maybe harsh weather and being neighbour to russia makes you hardened (=Sisu) .
Great reaction. I think you should do sabaton reactions more often, maybe twice a week. Its very interesting all the stuff from our history they do songs about.

As a Finn (not a representation of hero material in any stretch of imagination), I've got to point out that all the Ukrainian men, women and children are definitely endowed with some shit-load of SISU. Slava Ukraini! They are fighting for all of us!

A squadron of Russian soldiers were walking in formation when a shoot rang out and killed a Russian soldier. The Russians ran for cover and the commander sent 10 men to investigate and take out the Finnish sniper. 10 shots were heard and then it went quiet. The commander sent 100 soldiers and after minutes of shooting it went quiet again and no Russian soldiers returned. Next he sent 1000 soldiers. After hours of battle one wounded Russian soldier managed to crawl back to his squadron. With his last breath he managed to say "it's a trap, there's 2 of them".

Thanks Wolfpack! Simo`s death was published in that newspaper and he called the editor and said: "The articles about my death might be bit premature". When reporters asked, what he felt shooting the enemy, Simo answered, "Recoil". We lost simply cause we were left totally on our own devices, despite countless promises from the Allies, no support for ammunition, gears, planes, tanks, food...at the end Finnish soldiers only had their Army Knife. Simo counted about 545 sniper kills and the official submarine machine gun kills about 300. And all that less than 100 days, daylight maybe 4 hours.

What I love about them IS they are not biased.
They make these heroic, humanic, touching songs from all Frontiers and from all nations showing us that on the End we all are the same❤️
And one little detail.. in this video they pointed out The rifle called spitzer for its aims.
Here in Finland it is called Pystykorva..pointy ears.
Guess what huntingdog breed Simo started breeding after WWII..
    Suomen Pystykorva ..Finnish Spitzer,🥰
Smallesh in body But enormous at soul (as Simo was) capable to survive and thrive coldest possible conditions barking the target hours (If needed) until he could get to firing position 🥰

we say same thing in sweden about bad clothes, we have simlar weather so people in finland and sweden have same experience in that regard, This hero story is fantastic and a true hero. You were talking about the movie Ennemies at the gates about the russian sniper.

World War II started 1.9.1939 when Germany attacked Poland so Finnish Winter War was part of it. Just one of the many theatres of the war. (response to you saying that it was before WW2)

      @Wezqu Před rokem +1

Winter War was direct result of Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact between Soviets and Germany that clearly designated what areas was whose. So its not being part of WWII is one argument that never makes sense to me when it happens during the timeline of WWII and is direct result of the invasion of Poland.

...I think my previous comment vanished somewhere... Let's try again. A fun tidbit: In the recent US senate discussion on the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, Simo Häyhä (a.k.a. the White Death) was explicitly mentioned.
See czcams.com/video/N4wUbhG3goI/video.html&ab_channel=SenatorTomCotton (Simo Häyhä mentioned starting from 4:11).
Also just before this part the etymology of "Molotov Cocktail" was mentioned (named after the Soviet foreign minister who signed the secret protocol of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, leaving e.g. Finland as free to be annexed by the Soviet Union). I don't think I've heard as much praise for Finland abroad in a long time (if ever), let alone in US Senate.
    Greetings from Finland!
I'm a relatively new to Nightwish, too (sic!), and I've immensely enjoyed Your reactions , appreciation , perhaps even love towards the magic Tuomas, Floor and the whole band bring to us all. Stay safe and have nice day!

Movie you mentioned in the beginning Enemy at the Gates, great flick.
The lack of humor from this Sabaton fan. Kind of. Don't appreciate most humor anymore. Dark humor, the darker the better, is what tickles my funny bone. You might see a good number of vets and first responders with the same sense of humor.

Oppenheimer was american hero, so was Wernher von Braun. If you don't know nazis were way ahead of any allied countries by science Other was. Imagine if all the scientist what were in germany after ww1 wouldn't have been safe (not jews). Deutschland would be number one with everything. At least they produced most advanced thing during ww2. Like Tiger 2 vs sherman. Tiger could take out 10-15 shermans but sheer numbers and how much does it to make something was on usa and soviet side. Hero of soviet...you can't even imagine what it is to live next to it. Like threat in usa is ...hmm...yea yourself. Hope you'll keep it that way
