  • Hey everyone, in this video I show you how to do a simple libation (liquid offering) to the Gods. I decided to do a libation to Apollon. :) Also, I forgot to mention you should always cleanse yourself with khernips before doing any sort of ritual (I cleansed myself before I started filming).
And yes, I know I accidentally said Orphic hymn first. xD I meant Homeric hymn.

This is a very nice example of our basic rites. You just need to be a little more confident, your content is certainly getting better.
I’m gonna explain my daily rite here in the comments, if that’s alright. Hopefully it might be of help to someone.
    1) I make sure that the proper Agalma is on the altar for the Theos in question, in this case it would be my Hestia statue. I also pour a small amount of nearly pure alcohol into a stoneware bowl that I use as a simple brazier. I also fill a small ceramic pitcher with wine.
    2) I light Hestia’s candle, a simple yellow taper made by a good Hellenic Polytheist friend, along with the tealight for my makeshift incense burner.
    3) I take my small bowl of barley seeds and take a step back from the altar, I step forward and sprinkle a bit into the small tripod beneath the bowl.
    4) I take a small taper and light it from Hestia’s candle, dipping it into a small bowl of water. This creates the khernips, with which I wash my hands and face.
    5) I welcome the Theoi I’m honoring. On a normal day, it will simply be Hestia and the Household Gods. I have formulaic words that I say, which are completely my own: “I welcome here Hestia, and all the blessed Gods of this Oikos, I welcome here these Gods that They might witness these rites I hold in Their honor.” The words change based on the deity in question.
    6) I place my incense in the burner, dedicating it to the God in question.
    7) I light the brazier from Hestia’s candle
    8) I recite the Orphic Hymn to Hestia; I prefer the Athanasakis translation. And pour the first sponde (libation) to Her, pouring it directly into the lit brazier.
    9) I dedicate another sponde to the Household Gods, listing Them by name: Zeus Ktesios, Zeus Herkios, Apollon Aguieus, Hermes Propylaios, Hekate Triformis, and the Agathos Daimon. I pour a single sponde for all of them, at least on normal days, and pour the remaining wine into a small cup I have specifically for that purpose
    10) I thank the Gods for the blessings I’ve been given and ask that, if these offerings are pleasing to Them, that Their blessings might continue. I then drink the wine in the cup.
    11) I extinguish the candles, and the brazier usually extinguishes itself by this time. I wash the cup and pitcher in the khernips, and put them away. I toss the water and I’m done.
All told, my daily worship takes 10 minutes tops. Maybe 15 if I’m honoring another Theos. I hope you don’t mind my long winded comment. 😅

Happy Mid Autumn Festival Eagle of Zeus
Samhain is coming and the time fast approaches to show honours to the ancestors.
I just poured one out for a relative's partner who has dome good for me.
Her libation is the first of many at my tree of the ancients.
    Blessed Be.
