Nice. I love wood. For every type of material used there are many ways to care for them. Each has its own problems. I have granite and you have to make sure you wipe up spills from meats or oils and such quickly or it can seep into the granite and eventually turn rancid and smell. You have to clean and polish it also. So people that say the wood is hard to keep up I say they all have to be taken care of.
I've had granite for almost 20 years. If sealed "properly" there should be no problem. I used to seal it once a year (spray sealer on, let it set for 5 minutes, wipe it off and wait an hour...then good to go!) but now only every couple of years! Nothing bleeds thru!! Countertops look just as they did when they were put in!! Don't be afraid of granite!!
I seriously wish that when a makeover is finished, you would video the completed transformation for 10 seconds so we can appreciate it❣️ One second glimpse just isn't enough time to truly take it all in.
Any reason you didn't make the butcher backsplash the same height as the first row of tiles so the tile backsplash starts with a full tile instead of the 1/3 tile?
I think the issue most people have is a lot of videos suggest an mineral oil for a finish to keep it "food safe" unless you are actually using the whole countertop as a butcher board and not just as a countertop would normally be used use 5 coats or so of polyurethane. It'll make it completely waterproof and can easily be refinished in 3-5 years with a wipe on coat.
Exactly. My husband desperately wants butcher but we are a busy family and usually repair and replace rather than maintenance household chores. I’m looking for an alternative that will still tickle his fancy with less upkeep.
Cheer buddy, yes I’m not sure why they didn’t to be honest. I think they may end up changing the doors at some point but I think they will be doing that themselves

@@TheCod3r Well if you compare wood to crap, then yeah, wood is better than crap. But typically, you dont put crap in - and wood is close to worst on the scale of materials fit for a kitchen. It will move with the seasons so it isn't great for the supporting structure, it is porous so it needs treatment like granite but even more important than for granite, it is easily scratched, even with expensive wood it doesn't help the situation much, etc. When something is practically never seen, there is usually a reason for it. Very nice improvement. The wood looks amazing!

@LTWCarpentry what wood is that?

A lot of people do not understand or even know how much upkeep goes in to butcher block countertops…
As the person that’s fitting it it falls down me/the fitter to make sure our customers understand how to care for the products that we fit for them.
Yeah like hardly none
Blödsinn. Einfach nachölen. Dafür gibt es extra Arbeitsplattenöl!!!!
