This shows why only Phil could truly sing Gabriel's songs. Their voices are eerily similar in timbre, almost like they were double tracked! What are the chances of two members of the same band having such voices? Genesis were such a perfect band I think they were preordained - fate!!
Saw this tour back in 1976, when I went to the show I never heard of Genesis I only went to see Bill Bruford, and still, today it was the best concert I ever saw blew me away!!!
the music that man has so far put together, has not yet been surpassed by this era, 3 years previous and 3 years or so after this. Genesis you fuckin amazing bastards.

@@jean-francoispayette92 He was only in the band from 1971-1977. Yes, Hackett did compose a lot of the music in that time period, but it was mostly in partnership with the other members and in a lot of the partnered compositions, he only brought a couple of ideas. So, saying he composed 90% of Genesis songs just doesn’t sound right.
@@metonicycle6294 Yes and I agree with your Phil replacing Peter comment. I loved Peter. but Phil did an awesome job switching from drummer only and singing backing vocals to frontman and drummer. He did a great job and I don't the band wouldn't have had the same longevity if Phil didn't come out to the front.
@@nickavenoso7851 Don’t forget Blood on the Rooftops! Not very Genesis-y but still one of their best songs. He had some help from Phil on it and Tony Banks’s keyboard fills really add a lot. I was at this gig at the Glasgow Apollo back in 1976! Amazing! A pity they won’t release the entire Glasgow Apollo film, as it all still exists in their vaults! Same goes for the Stafford New Bingley Hall footage. I just hope they’ve got all of that precious footage backed up....considering what happened to all of those master tapes that were lost forever in the Universal Vaults fire 🔥 😞
I was at the Stafford gig, seeing Genesis live for the first time. All musicians at the very top of their respective games, but I was totally wowed by the scintillatingly awesome Bill Bruford, who proved to be the safest pair of hands that the group could possibly have chosen to deputise for Phil while he sang. The Cinema Show remains fixed in my mind as the highlight of the evening, with the Collins/Bruford pairing leaving my jaw hopelessly dropped in utter admiration.
@@Kriegsgefangener31 The Stafford show looks awesome. I saw Pink Floyd doing “Animals” and “Wish you Were Here” at the same venue in ‘77. It’s a real shame that Floyd never filmed any of that tour! I’d have loved to have seen that again!
@@terrypussypower We were both at that Floyd gig. Bingley Hall may have looked like a glorified cattle shed, but the acoustics and atmosphere were great.
@@Kriegsgefangener31 Maybe you can clear something up that’s bugged me ever since that show. I sat near the front to the right of the stage, in the “stalls” so to speak. And we had to sit on this weird rope sh*t that was formed in joined together circles! It was the most uncomfortable crap imaginable. And I’ve always wondered what the hell it was! If it was something to do with the cattle markets that took place there? It didn’t interfere with my enjoyment of the show, but it must’ve in some way, as it’s one of the things that sticks in my head all these years later. I’ve never come across it at any other venue!
Well not quite actually, if you look at photos of the Lamb tour he had a similar set, plus a gong, glockenspiel, woodblocks, bell tree and a thin metallic structure with triangles and chimes. His Lamb drum set was about as complete as you can get, similar to Neil Peart`set.
Have you ever heard a more emotive version of "Carpet Crawlers"? Spine tingling. Gabriel could never in a million years inject this much emotion into the song.
I think Gabriel’s voice is a little too bombastic for this song. There are other track, Suppers Ready, for example, where Collins could never touch Gabriel. There’s hardly a more emotional moment in any Genesis song than the “New Jerusalem” moment in that song.

I agree except for the waiting room. It works for the album, but as a song by itself? It's not even a song! It's really just an ambient track that serves as a transition to the second half of the album.
This should be on Seconds Out. Better still, the album should have been a triple with more of a mix of the 76 and 77 tours. Still the best live album ever though!

Phil's marital discord was taking it's toll by this time and he wasn't taking care of himself. His physical appearance was deteriorating and his music later became dark and resentful. Misunderstanding and I Can't Take It Anymore are prime examples. He's still worth $250M in spite of 3 very costly divorces. Fame can be a curse.

Who is this, drumming with the guys?
Bill Bruford. He left King Crimson after "Red" and supported Phil on this tour. He then went on to "UK"
Bill Buford was originally with Yes up to the Close to the Edge album, and left just as it was being finished, and then went to King Crimson.
Hey! Some excessive Phil-isms on the vocal.
