  • Instead of having a clinic appointment with my GI doctor, he wanted to do a routine scope of my pouch since no one has looked at it since it became active in April of 2013. I describe the procedure and the findings which I was quite surprised at.

Thank you for reaching out and relaying your story. I'm SO SORRY to hear about the cancer but I'm glad that you were able to have most of it removed and it sounds like you'll soon be rid of it! And I KNOW that your story will be inspirational to others! I'm glad that the videos have helped....:)!

glad you got to enjoy a vacation to Maui - it's GORGEOUS there. did you snorkel by Black Rock?!? best spot to snorkel ever. I just got back from a caribbean cruise and my ileostomy was not behaving itself. Excited to get a jpouch down the road. Hope I have as good of luck as you seem to be having.

I DID snorkel although down by Wailea/Makena! Pretty much my first time so I wasn't too adventurous but I like it enough that'll I'll do it again! SO nice that you were able to get out of Manitoba and get to the Caribbean...even if your ostomy was being temperamental at least it was warm! ;) I think we're going to do a Caribbean cruise next March...fingers crossed!

Thanks for the update. That pouchoscopy sounds so much "better" than a regular colonoscopy! LOL
Do you think the VSL could have been causing those gas pains you mentioned? I know a lot of people have trouble with probiotics, and the VSL is a really high-dose probiotic.

I don't know if it was the probiotics OR the fact that I had a touch of pouchitis? I guess the test will come once I get off the antibiotics. I'm assuming that once I'm off the antibiotics that my GI will just keep me off the probiotics and see what happens? Although I also wonder if the probiotics were keeping the pouchitis so mild? LOTS of questions...sometimes I think we are just one big science experiment...LOL!
Oh, and HECK yeah, I'd go through a pouchoscopy ANY day compared to a colonoscopy!

UCandPSC Yeah, it's hard to know considering the probiotics can both cause and prevent those symptoms! I hope the antibiotics work for you. Looking forward to the next update.

Vegan Ostomy How's things on your end? Still doing well?

UCandPSC I'm doing great. My rectal wound is almost closed up and I've been moving on with my life and doing a lot more. Once the weather gets better, I'll be starting a regular walking routine (maybe jogging if my joints aren't problematic).

Vegan Ostomy That's awesome! So glad that wound is finally healing up! I've heard those can be a bugger to heal!
And here's to hoping the weather gets better FAST! ;)

Did you find flying did anything? I just did my 12 hour flight back to the states. I had no accidents or problems but I definitely felt more gassy than normal for about 72 hours. Check out my email I sent - was on Cipro for three weeks for the bacterial infection I caught. Main side effect was horrible taste in my mouth... :)
