Govplanet offer a full title service as well as just the SF97.
They only title it in two states.
The SF97 is $115 and the full title is another $200 for a total of $315 per vehicle.
I’m trying it out with two bought humvees….. we’ll see how it goes!
You can then take the issued title to your local state DMV and convert it to your state (if that state allows it).
You’ll obviously have the “state of your choice” fees on top of that..

Took a while to get the title through.
      Was a Montana title.
Took it to DMV in Washington.
They took my state fees and gave me Washington unrestricted plates, tags n all.
      Outstanding!

Interesting, in Ohio go to the DMV and ask for the brochure that lists what is needed to register a self built vehicle. This document will list all of the items that are required to operate that vehicle legally in the state. You will need to add backup lights, the third brake light, a lighted license plate holder on the rear of the vehicle. Make sure wipers work, horn, headlights, signal lights, seatbelts front and back if a 4 passenger or just 2 if you are doing a pickup truck. Schedule an appointment with the DMV for an inspection, bring all documents you receive from the sale of the vehicle and any additional that might be needed. Also very important, get liability insurance on the vehicle. You will probably need to obtain temporary tags from the DMV to legally take it on the road for the inspection. When you go in for the inspection, listen to what they say, mark down any deficiency they find, do not be a smart ass know it all. These inspectors can fail an inspection based on your attitude. If for some reason they find something that is needed on the list of required items that you have added or completed have the DMV list of requirements on hand to talk with the inspector. Just calmly point it out to them what is listed in the brochure. If they ask for additional items just let them know politely that it wasn’t listed in the list provided to you by the DMV.
If all else fails, take it to and adjoining county and see if you can get it passed there.

I used them with my humvee when they were cheaper, it was around $600 at the time with the bill of sale only, which was still pretty costly in my opinion but it was a simple process. My next vehicle I got registered was a BRDM 2, I done this one myself through Vermont which was pretty easy, In my opinion, it's not really worth the price tag they're asking for because it's pretty simple to register these in Vermont yourself and save yourself $800 - $1,500. I don't know why you needed a VIN inspection though, that's maybe depending on the state or maybe things changed over the months

    • @DirtLegal
      @DirtLegal Před rokem +2

That was back when we used Vermont to do the registrations, and they have cheaper fees, but they no longer register Humvees, which is why we had to use other states and increase the cost. In some cases, you might still be able to get a military vehicle slipped through, which is probably what happened with your BRDM 2, but Vermont recently changed its guidelines on military vehicles. A VIN inspection is required for the current states that we use to register military vehicles. BTW, we appreciate your business! If you ever have a situation that you can't solve on your own, just reach out to us.

There is a BIG difference between “Street Legal” (getting title & plates) and DOT and EPA Compliant. HMMWV do NOT comply with DOT and EPA Regs. in effect on date of manufacture! The U.S. Military applies for and is granted “exemptions” for THEIR use. Be aware, it has not yet been tested in courts whether those “exemptions” granted to the U.S. Military are transferable.when a Military HMMWV (U.S. PROPERTY) is transferred to a non-U.S. Government entity.

It is illegal in the state of Florida to register a Humvee for Street Legal Use (after the DMV edict came out in 2016.) The insurance companies in my state know it is illegal for a Humvee to be on the road in this state. Why would they give me insurance while fully knowing it's illegal?
Am I supposed to try and get this insurance while disclosing to them that this illegal to drive vehicle will be registered in a different state?
Even if I can get insurance in Florida, I doubt they would ever pay off on a vehicle insured in Florida, but plated in Utah.
If you live in Florida, you have to transfer title of any vehicles you own to the state of Florida in so many days of establishing residency. Dirt Legal's office is in an industrial complex in Fort Lauderdale, FL. They are not in Utah.

"If you live in Florida, you have to transfer title of any vehicles you own to the state of Florida in so many days of establishing residency" - i believe that is incorrect. you have to get a florida driver's license within ten days of moving here but you can have a another residenty elsewhere, insure your vehicle there and drive it in Florida (all snowbirds do that).

The insurance companies will insure any type of vehicle for many types of situations. They don't verify the local laws, they just insure your vehicle. We have many customers in FL with their Humvee's registered. It's actually not illegal to drive the vehicle in Florida, especially if you have it registered to an LLC, as now the owner is a non resident and the rule you mentioned only applies to Florida residents. An LLC does not have residency in your state, but it has residency in the state the LLC was formed.
And yes we are in Fort Lauderdale, thanks for pointing that out. We register vehicles in many different states all over the USA. We have reps in each of those states that assist us as well as offices in various states.
