    Watching this video, the light bulb just went off in my head why, in a studio, you set the camera to kill the ambient light. And the value of a fill light for an outdoor scene such as your outdoor reception example in this video. The former is an example of "I'm not going to allow light mixing," the latter is an example of "I'm going to overcome light mixing." Your video is more along the lines of "I can't control the light so I'm going to manipulate it and work with it." Overall, these various methods help make a better photographer. Thanks for presenting this and I'll be anxious to enjoy part 2. ⭐x 5

    Awesome info, Pye.
    This is always overlooked since most photo instruction is from studio folks, or people working outdoors…not from in-the-trenches photogs in these real (and really ugly) situations. Adding it to my list for all folks we mentor.

    Short and informative. Thank you! Very handy tip for using the gels. Set the right colour for the picture and you'll save sooooo much time in postprocessing! My very first experience with gels was taking photos of a metalsmith in a dark shop.

    Thank you for sharing this. I have a common issue where my clients usually have booked restaurants with spotlights directly above the stage. I end up with unappealing shadows all over their faces and losing their features. There's only so much 'lightening the shadows 'can do. I also find that my flash is over exposes the pictures on the lowest setting even with camera flash exposure settings to counteract. Feel like I can't get around it at all without screaming internally at the light placements.

    How would you set correct exposure for skin tones when you have all those bleu and purple light in reception during the wedding for wideo and photos? Add your own daylight LEDs?

  • @silentdrive3243

    soooo... THANK YOU! very much for this video. I am editing lifestyle photos right now... yep, and they are doctor office photos with STUPID orange cabinets/office lights and some with flash and some without... This helped a lot to make the no flash look like the flash photos and color casting.
    With the new AI masking in LR... HSL NEEDS to be in subject mask. (Invert subject and GO if HSL existed in this function)

  • @T11paraplegic
    @T11paraplegic Před 2 lety

    It's better to go to the curves and lower the yellow color so it doesn't effect the skin tones than lowering the saturation...I also started using a color checker card to check my hue and sat than eyeing it.But still a helpful video 👍♿

    Did I miss it? Gel the flash but what temperature are you shooting at? Are you adjusting to the room or leaving it at daylight?

    I've tried a cto gel and it made my pictures greenish. I've also tried half cut cts. Any other gels I can get?

  • @ccbphoto
    @ccbphoto Před 2 lety

    So when you say “gel for the dominant light source,” do you mean if it’s yellow you use a yellow gel or opposite (blue) color?

    I think the last picture would be better if shot without gel. The couple would look good, the background a little more orange but the people under blue light would look much better than this.

  • @ihatesjws669
    @ihatesjws669 Před 9 měsíci

    I didn't see anything wrong with the yellow and blue mix in the last photo. In fact I think the couple would have enjoyed it more then the flat blue toned down look.

    Technically, if using RAW files there is no reason why you can't duplicate the file and process one for the tungsten and the other for the blues. Combine the two images in PS and use a mask to bring through the correction for the blue light.
