- Judge Steven Boyce slammed Lori Vallow Daybell at sentencing Monday for showing no remorse before locking her up for life in prison without the possibility of parole. The “doomsday cult” mom was found guilty of murdering her two children, J.J. Vallow and Tylee Ryan, and her “prophet” husband’s late wife, Tammy Daybell. Judge Boyce said the children were “buried like animals.”

Before she killed/had JJ killed, she took away his dad, his service dog, his sister, his grandparents, and his meds. Imagine what he was suffering as an autistic boy, even before he was murdered? I'm grateful for this verdict. She deserves every minute and more.
There is something terribly wrong with the child protective systems in the states in which she resided. How do children disappear with a crazy woman and parental, sibling and grandparents rights severed so completely?

As a former litigator, this is one of the best, most knowledgeable, and thorough judges I’ve ever seen. His rulings and temperament were always on point. He should instruct other judges. I wholeheartedly agree with his sentences.
I love that he repeatedly mentioned her total lack of empathy again and again.

If anything, Lori Vallow's proclamation of divine intervention makes me feel anger and pain for the millions of good people, like you, who do have true faith and would never commit such acts in the name of all that is holy. Sad all round. I wonder where we will be today if the Police took Charles Vallow more seriously. Breaks my heart to see him begging for help, trying to make sense of the crazy that was happening around him. The monster flutters her eyelashes and giggles her way out of being properly looked at.
I thought that at first, but it turns out they did everything they could, even had Lori get evaluated by a shrink. She conned the shrinks.
I have thought about this so many times. I believe things would have been much better and many lives saved had they taken him seriously

What were you expecting him to give her? Some years? He literally couldnt even if he wanted to, the minimum sentence required for her charges was life without parole. He had no other choice BUT this sentence.

I'm in complete awe on how this professional judge was able to keep his composure while bringing down his punishment to this very sick monster.
Not once did she cry during the trial but here she is wiping tears hearing that she's going away for life.

This judge is awesome. Making her hear all the evidence even when she didn’t want to. Making sure the jury is recognized as working hard during a terrible trial.
I doubt any juror would want to be involved with such a disturbing case. Viewers have the option to switch off and/or watch something else. They didn't have that option.
The L.E and jurors cannot unsee what she has inflicted , if only someone would have taken Joe and Charles seriously this maybe could have been avoided having that second sense knowing something about about someone is raising that hair on the back of your neck dont ignore it ! none of this should have happened, the PTSD she has caused will never go away nothing could be to harsh a sentence.
I really appreciated the respect Judge Boyce showed to the families of the victims, the jurors, and the first responders who had to deal with Daybell's horrifying atrocities (I refuse to call her Vallow after what she did to that family). Jurors and first responders are often forgotten about when considering those affected by a crime, so it was nice to see them acknowledged.
In reality, consecutive life sentences are a bit pointless as we only live once, but to use them as a way to honour the victims (by giving one for each of them) was intelligent, thoughtful, and will hopefully provide some solace to the loved ones of each individual victim, along with a sense that justice was done.
It would have been very easy to be vengeful in this sentencing - most of us would want to lock her up and throw away the key - but I thought his calm, patient explanation showed how well this was thought through, and pretty much destroyed any chance she has of appeal.

Poor Charles! He tried & tried to get help for Lori’s mental health issues. Her family, save Adam, refused to even accept his phone calls. He even told the police that he thought she was going to kill him, (because of her bazaar behavior), and look what happened.💔
As a first responder since 2004 this woman doesn’t understand the amount of collateral damage she has forever caused to all that went to that scene. Any call involving kids isn’t a call you want these people will never be able to unsee what she caused. It’s honestly fu(ked up to go to a call like that

I cannot fathom the anger he had to keep quelled seeing that criminal sit so smugly, defiantly, bored, & disrespectfully. So shocked Lori not only had no remorse but she had the gull to try to convince the court that all her victims were doing great, keeping busy, and of course in Lori style........she made it all about her and how her victims were visiting her and comforting her. I think the psychological profession needs to make a new diagnostic category for this one. Judge Boyce's explanation of his decisions was stellar!

I think, she was playing up an insanity plea, by her rambling wacked out religious story.
But it didnt work. If she hadn't met Chad, none of this might have happened, the 2 of them together were extremely bad news. She was playing a game of her own. No doubt she has serious issues of one sort or another.
She doesn’t think she did anything wrong. The people she killed - in her mind- were worthless. All they were worth was the money she and Chad got off them. Would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when she found out she wasn’t getting the million dollars from Charles life insurance.

Judges have to weigh aggravating and mitigating factors when fashioning a sentence for the defendant. And they’re not compliments; they’re called mitigating factors.

Thats how all judges are, they have to consider and give the mitigating factors(good things about the defendant/things that explain what they did) and then the aggravating factors (bad things about the defendant/what the did/how bad it was, etc.). It's just protocol.

This Judge covered all bases, and was extremely fair to the abhorrent defendant, so as to shut down any appeals forthcoming.
His speech was also very empathic to those who's lives were ripped from them, and to the those victims that are left to deal with the loss. A very respectful and powerful sentencing.....Justice WAS Served.

The Judge is not able to "shut down" appeals. Indeed he spoke about the appeal process.

2. her representation
It will take about 3 years before the Idaho Supreme Court hears either of them.
But she now has nothing else to do with her time.

Vallow is completely delusional. Another narcissist refusing to accept responsibility for her crimes.
She’s a cold calculated murderer. She has not changed her behavior in anyway from the day she walked in. She is not sorry in fact she doesn’t think she did anything wrong. She needs to be placed in prison for a lifetime without parole.
Judge future-proofed her sentence. If in 25 years they decide that "life in prison" really means "20 or 30 years in prison" she's still not getting out.

Lori, along with her brother Alex, was also there that day & involved in the killing of Charles, the kids Father. And I believe Lori & Chad were also involved in the mysterious death of her brother Alex. I see the connecting dots where Alex was also involved with all of the Family related killings, so he got his just desserts in my opinion.
When you go down the deep Rabbit Hole of this case you'll come to the conclusion there's most likely more victims. I wish all of those church followers would speak up about everything that happened in that cult.
Brandon, the ex husband of Melanie, who is Lori's niece, was almost killed too because he started questioning things going on in Chad's church & he warned people about Lori, Chad & Melanie, and he was telling people to look into other members (including children) that were "dropping like flies". Afterwards he was shot at in a "drive by" a few weeks after JJ & Tylee were killed, and 2 weeks before Tammy was killed. Lori's niece Melanie has her hands dirty too, in some of this. And who knows who else is involved.
I also remember something about possibly Lori's sister, or another relative, that mysterious died a long time ago. It's suspect & I'm willing to bet Lori has other things in her past that no one is fully aware of.
I firmly believe that Lori & Chad are both are Serial Killers, and I don't think we'll ever know the whole story or who all of their victims are.
I really hope Chad also never sees the light of day again, because he is also equally responsible for all of those killings.
And don't forget Charles
perhaps her involvement in other murders made her hard enough to feel no remorse for her own children and Chad's wife

Well, sometimes plee deals help defendant's get lesser sentences, so I don't necessarily agree with that part of your comment.

This judge did an amazing job. He stayed so composed and still fair even in the face of this situation.

3 consecutive life sentences. I find that to lenient. The death penalty was created for just this type of Animal.

Because even if she was sentenced to the death penalty, she wouldn’t actually be put to death. She would just appeal, appeal, and appeal and end up dying naturally in prison.

Death row ends up costing taxpayers more money than a life sentence would, considering the amount of appeals they submit.
A death sentence is far more costly to taxpayers than a life sentence with no possibility of parole. Every convicted person has an opportunity to appeal but those sentenced to death appeal multiple times; have many funded organizations working for them; multiple hearings; it's rather 'endless'...

It sounds like she believes she did them a FAVOR... by ridding them of their 'dark spirit' (killing them)... and then taking the payout from insurance. She hasn't really given an excuse for THAT. Maybe they asked her to when they came to her in her goddess dreams?

If Lori truly believe that the world was going to end and she was supposed to lead the survivors in Rexburg, why was she on a long honeymoon in Hawaii? Why wasn't she gathering more people or building a bunker in Rexburg to prepare for the end times? It's because she knew it was nonsense, she knew the world wasn't ending. Lori just wanted to live the good life in Hawaii with her new husband.
I liked listening to the Judge's even tone as he went thru the summary and his reasoning. My sincere condolences to the families of Tylee, JJ, Charles and Tammy, may they rest in peace.
What was going through the mind of this judge as he attempted to go to sleep the night following this court appearance. I feel for this man and the burden he carries.
Her little speech was ridiculous actung like thats what the kids wanted and they are so happy now.. she cant wait to see them again? Not where she is going👹

I think lori and alex were somehow guilty of causing the death of Joseph Ryan, the father of Tylee Ryan. Whatever alex gave Joseph Ryan to cause his death, he took a helping of it himself and that’s how he died.
One thing I have managed to find by looking all over the net is that carbon monoxide poisoning, manual asphyxiation, and possibly malachite poisoning would cause the things all those deaths share. Tammy was manual, so was Joe, possibly. Sadly he was cremated. So unless she ever fesses up, we will never know. But I agree.
Lori likely killed Alex or had a hand in his death. Alex did her bidding and she did away with him. LVD even said that her Dad was dark, she was probably plotting his murder.

She can’t even own up to the murder of her children and Tammy when the evidence is right in plain sight. In fact she goes further with it and pulls the whole mental act as to try and mitigate punishment when she’s tried in Arizona.

Bless this Judge. He gave this thought, articulated his careful considerations of her past deeds and current thoughts and excuses for her actions. There may come a time when she has remorse but I’m not sure she is capable of any human emotion that does not benefit her wants.
This is why the death penalty should be available in ALL states. Monsters like this don't deserve to live another second after murdering those poor babies.
It is available in her state. The prosecution messed up and filed it way too late and it had to be taken off the table. The good thing is they filed it on time for Chad Daybell at least.

A life lived in prison is harder than a death sentence. Eventually her delusions will go away and she'll be faced with the facts and forced to deal with she did to her kids.....all in a 5x8 cell with no window, for the rest of her life.

Judge Boyce did great! He was straight forward and covered all of his bases.

Judge usually like not compliment her but there's 2 factors that judge need to consider before giving her sentence
1st mitigating factors(good thing about her)
2nd aggravating factors (bad things about her)
Good she got everything she deserved. A+++ on the Judge for basically telling her how awful she is, but keeping classy at the same time. Tough day for those defense attorneys.

And Chad calling Tammy to tell her he shot & killed a raccoon & was going to bury it in their pet cemetery. He was burying Lori's children & didn't want Tammy to get suspicious! That's diabolical!
Did you see her react with contempt and fury when he said that the sentences would be consecutive? Just a shake of her head, eyes upwards. Her final demotion maybe from her fantasy of power over everyone else. That got to her and she couldn't hide it.

JJ and Tylee have finally seen justice, 2 children taken to early in life by their own Mother. Guilty verdict was well overdue, life without parole.

My wife and I have 2 kids, a boy and a girl. A wife, a daughter and a son were lost in this senseless crime. It brought tears to my eyes hearing the judge speak on their lives and the sentencing handed down. There really is not fair justice in this case.
This is one of my all time favorite sentencings because of how calmly and dispassionately the judge lowers the boom, and how he turned her arrogant, stubborn defiance back on her and explained how she blew it by not providing any mitigating facts.
I'm glad he really dropped the hammer on her. Basically she's convinced they are in a better place so what she did doesn't matter according to her own thinknig. Using religion in a false way like that, as an excuse for murder, is evil.
She isn’t convinced of that. It’s all part of her manipulative evil character. If that was a man there, would you give him that out?

Shes so crazy she didn't believe they were her children anymore. She thought that her children were already gone and demons were in their bodys and all she did was kill demons. Somehow all ok through religion. She's crazy.
