    1968 Ford F-250 Custom Cab Pickup (1/25)
    Description
Part of the fifth generation of the popular F-Series,the 1968 F-250 Custom Cab featured a 131-inch wheelbase, an 8-foot bed and Twin I-Beam Front Suspension. Originally introduced in 1965, Ford's revolutionary Twin I-Beam Suspension provided an independent axle for each front wheel. The 1968 F-250 also boasted Ford's Flexomatic Rear Suspension, which made its debut in 1967. Both suspension features were designed to allow greater control and smoother driving over rough roads.
    Features
    Full Interior
    Detailed F-250 Chassis
    360/390 CID V-8 Engine
The fifth generation of the Ford F-Series is a line of pickup trucks and commercial trucks that were produced by Ford from the 1967 to 1972 model years. Built on the same platform as the fourth generation F-series trucks, the fifth generation had sharper styling lines, a larger cab, and expanded engine options.
Three trim levels were available during the production of the fifth generation F-series, though the names were changed in 1970. The "Base" trim became the "Custom" and the "Custom Cab" became the "Sport Custom" joining "Ranger" as optional levels of equipment and trim. Late in production the Ranger trim level was upgraded with the additional "Ranger XLT" option.
1967: Introduction of fifth-generation F-Series in 1966 for the 1967 model year. Cab is 3 inches (7.6 cm) wider than predecessor and frame is heavier. Grille, exterior trim, interior cab fittings and engine choices are unique to this year. Trim levels are "Base", "Custom Cab", and "Ranger".
1968: As federal regulations required all automotive manufacturers to install side marker reflectors or lights, Ford redesigned the hood emblems to incorporate reflectors as well as added reflectors to the rear of the bed. Interior fittings changed due to new safety standards. New versions of the FE-Series engine added (360 truck and 390). First year of factory-installed air conditioning (air conditioning was installed by the dealer before 1968).
1969: New grille design, new 302 Windsor V8 engine option.
1970: Mid-cycle update with many detail changes including a completely new grille including wraparound front turn signals, exterior trim changes, and new side marker lights. "Sport Custom" trim replaces "Custom Cab", and "Ranger XLT" added as top trim level.
After 1968, Ford discontinued the "Low GVWR" versions. Still available was the Camper Special option (heavy duty cooling, camper pre-wiring, and larger alternator) along with the new Explorer Special (a limited edition trim and option package that combined many of the "Ranger" trim pieces with a lower overall price), Contractor's Special (including a behind the seat toolbox and 3/4 ton (F-250) suspension), Farm and Ranch Special (extra toolboxes and heavy springs), and Heavy-Duty Special (extra hauling abilities). These special models had various levels of options factory installed to appeal to different target groups.
    F-100: 1/2 ton (5,500 GVWR max)
    F-100: 1/2 ton (4x4) (5,600 GVWR max)
F-250: 3/4 ton (up to 8,100 GVWR max)
    F-250: 3/4 ton (4×4) (8,200 GVWR max)
F-350: 1 ton (up to 10,000 GVWR max) Dual rear wheels available
    1972 Crew Cab Pickup
    Bed options
    Styleside on F-100 and F-250. 6.5' and 8' lengths.
Flareside on all models, 6.5', 8' and 9' (F-350 only) lengths.
Platform stakes on F-250 and F-350 in 9' and 12' lengths.
    Cab options
    Standard cab on all models.
Crew cab with seating for six and four doors optional on F-250 and F-350.

I have been looking for a model kit like this for a LOONG time. My dad taught me to drive in a '67 with a column shift and a V8. He's been gone 18 years and I have always wanted to build a model kit just like his old truck. Those are memories I will never forget.

I don't know what you did with him but if you build the truck you might want to park it on a base that reminds you of him -- corner service station tarmac, painted lines for angle parking at the curb, on the grass next to a local ball diamond, on a patch of dirt next to a camping fire, etc. Some accessories in the bed and in the cab might make it more personal.
      Good luck!

Cool. Years ago, my uncle John bought a brand new 1977 F150. It was bright red and had a red interior. I still remember the day he brought it home. It smelt so new. I built an amt 1977 f350 just like it. Painted it red. Yesterday I bought the 1968 truck on my lunch break. Thanks.

I officially took a day off and started building mine today. There's a lot more tiny little Parts than I'm used to. Some of the instructions can be a tad bit vague. There was a lot of confusion when it came to the motor mounts and the drag link because the illustration wasn't that clear.
I'm extremely pleased with the fit and the detail.
This is the first time I've used liquid cement and it is a game changer. I've always used stuff out of a tube and a handful of clothespins and today with liquid cement it made progress so much easier. I had made a previous remark about painting this model in the likeness of my late father's truck, the truck in which I learned to drive.
I am building this one in two-wheel drive with a manual transmission.
The nice surprise is the amount of extra parts in the box :-) thank you so much for this build.

Preheating the can in warm -- not hot -- water increases the vaporization of the paint. I've never used Tamiya spray though I've run gallons of it through airbrushes High humidity can also curdle paint out of the can -- always test it before committing to your project.

Nothing smoother than an independent Front Suspension.
Ford now gives you BOTH in a "Twin I-Beam Front Suspension"

I had a 66 f-250 long bed. Is it possible to mash a couple kits to build it? I have seen the f150. Not sure it will fit on this chassis.

Chris, what color do you go with to paint the transmission? Is it aluminum or the silver argent? I can't tell. Thanks

Hey Chris, did this kit have all of the parts to make it a 4wd? I'm curious because I know Moebius is supposed to be releasing their highboy f250 kits later this year.

I go through all the parts in the beginning of the video, you'll be able to see if they are all there, I didn't keep track myself.

@@hpiguy gotcha, I saw the axles, t-case, and wheels with the 4wd hubs but didn't see the springs or front driveshaft, which is why I asked. I'll take another look. Thanks!

Does the glue you apply with a brush dry quickly? Also what is the brand of glue? I need some! Thank you!
