- Former president Donald Trump falsely claimed that Kamala Harris only recently began identifying as Black, at an event in Chicago Wednesday. Trump spoke in a contentious appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists. Trump accused Rachel Scott of ABC News of giving him a “very rude introduction.” Kamala Harris attended Howard University, a prominent historically Black university, was a member of the historically Black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha, and was a member of the Congressional Black Caucus as a senator.

Trump has been saying he's doing well with black voters and she asked him to clarify his comments about remarks towards black officials. Trump then rambled until they moved on because he couldn't defend those remarks.
She is bringing up race in the context of what Trump has said on record in the past. Like he literally said those things. It was a chance for him to take a moment and clarify all those past remarks and actions. There is no manipulation or fabrication, she literally just straight up asks him to explain what you meant when you said these things. It's a softball question.
