      I agree. However part of making a CZcams video pop up in browse is finding key word comparisons that fit the style most similarly. While the other titles I had brainstormed were a bit more accurate, I felt this one would do better in CZcams’s search engine/recommendations for my target audience and knew the trade off would be this type of question haha. So I appreciate you Alex for pointing it out and for viewing it regardless! :)

    I love what you're going for here. But I personally find that you've added a lot of visual clutter. I love the minimalist "border only" view I have when using arc. That's 90% of the reason why I switched from chrome. I used to use chrome in fullscreen just to avoid seeing the top bar.

    • @TheHeadincharge
      @TheHeadincharge Před 9 dny

      I mean, where did he add a lot of visual clutter? Other than adding two buttons to the top right I fail to see what you're referring to. If you hide the toolbar, those buttons would just appear on the sidebar, just like the extensions do now... Also, if you're not already hiding the toolbar, you should be considering your preferences on this.

  • @shmeboptop
    @shmeboptop Před 3 měsíci +30

    I think your redesign is good but one thing to keep in mind is its reliance on the toolbar. I'm sure i'm not the only user who never enables the toolbar--it's one of my favorite things about arc: having a full no-clutter screen with no toolbar or sidebar open that really makes it feel like I am using an app rather than a browser. Maybe there is a good solution to this? But sometimes sacrifices have to be made 🤷‍♂

    • @nikhil_kulk
      @nikhil_kulk  Před 3 měsíci +7

      You bring up a really great point! The reliance on the tool bar is definitely there within my proposed designs and yet I still feel like I can get a solid experience with its existence compared to a double opened side bar. As time moves on I'm sure there will be more customization of features but as they continue to improve the product both on desktop and mobile, iterations will need to be had for finding the best case scenario. Thank you so much for watching! (also your profile picture of the cat is so cute! haha)

    The main issue with arc is that the main problem its trying to takle has been fiexed for decades now with book marcs and having book marcs linked to tab groups makes it more confusing when openeing new tabs as it allways refers to older bookmarks. I think edge is way more elegant with bookmarks and simple bookmark grouping.

    i disagree with many of your choices ... for me it's one of THE features of arc, that there is no top-bar. it's just the most efficient way to use all screen estate with smaller laptops. so relying on a topbar to tidy up a library, that really you wohn't use in everyday use ... not worth it imo ...

  • @vasil-yt
    @vasil-yt Před 2 měsíci +1

    Pretty good redesign, definitely a good looking video aswell. But the library feature wasn't necessarily bad in my opinion. Relying on the toolbar to always be visible is worse. Same thing with showing which tabs are open and which aren't. It's not necessarily a problem, I think it's actually part of Arc's experience of never having to worry about which tabs you leave open. It all happens automatically for you. If I could see which are open this experience would be somewhat ruined and I would be worrying about closing tabs. The split screen part is great though, I hate how difficult it is to unsplit a splitscreen view.

    I'm totally with you the ability to close split screens and it would be nice for productivity purposes to know whats open and not, but honestly I haven't really experienced performance issues even when jumping across a ton of what I thick would be intensive apps and windows. I think you glossed over what I consider the absolutely best feature: spaces. It gives you real control in how you separate your life, accounts and more while at the same time easily bring something in from one part of your life or account into another. I have multiple work situations and personal areas and this is a game changer. I think with some AI in the future it could be even better. Another thing is windows. I sometimes work with 4 screeens and want to have 3 of my 4 screens in arc,

    I love the video and the effort (and I do hope they hire you). One tiny comment I'd say as a product designer myself: your suggestion of moving things in the top bar wouldn't work for someone like me, as I never have this turned on (it's one of the main reasons why I use arc, by the way). But the suggestions in general, your thinking behind everything, the effort, and the video are AWESOME :)

      Thank you so much for your feedback and I appreciate you resonating with my design thinking. This definitely doesn't need to be the only or final solution as Arc can always reiterate as things progress, but I thought it could simplify some of the increased mouse movement from left to right for specific features in the library as a step up from where they are currently at haha. Thanks again for watching, I appreciate it! :)

      It's okay, I sincerely appreciate you commenting and checking it out. If you want to share, what felt like it didn't quite meet the mark in enjoying it?

      @@nikhil_kulki agree that the library needs some work and the dot design for opened tabs is a good idea. FOR ME, the tool bar being on top of the websites is so ugly and in the way. I wish they had an option to hide when you were on split view actually

      also i feel like something like modal that’s accessible via shortcut only(maybe) would be a good place for downloads.

    Leave it up to the UI/UX designers to compare themselves to Steve Jobs because they added a sidebar to chrome

      Good shit though. Would hire in an instant. Some of the features like drag and drop could prove tricky on a webpage.

      Glad you enjoyed! And yes I mentioned at the end but there will definitely need to be some more user testing before implementing these changes fully to make sure most of the use cases are met.

      I made the prototyping in Figma using a mix of screen shots for referencing since I don't have access to a component library to make it exactly pixel perfect but aimed for very close. Animation for motion graphics was done in After Effects, and I compiled all the sequences in Premiere Pro adjusting music and voice over through there as well. Let me know if you have other questions on the technical aspects of things.
