Yesterday the entire high streets of Shirley in the West Midlands was rammed with St George flags/patriots and hundreds of bikers all celebrating the English flag. Restored my faith that there'll always be an England. Fantastic display.
Whitehall was a picture of St George flags but the police presence was intimidating.

I have an English mother and a Scottish father .I am proud to fly both st George flag and Scottish saltires flags.
I believe at this point the Palestinian flag is racist.

Maybe you couldn't get St George flags very easily. The government were pushing "Britain" a lot from the war to the sixties. Then they brought in the "British Nationalities Act 1981" when "British" became a nationality.

i fly the st george,s flag & the union jack constantly & i have new flags for when the ones that are up get weather damaged or ripped etc. & if anyone asks me to take them down cos they don,t like them etc. Then i.ll just put more up, cos i,ll decide what is put up on my property, no-one else.

When i was younger, if you travelled around my county, you would see the flag of St. George flying from the towers of the Parish churches. The George cross is our flag, it should be flown with pride everywhere around our country. 🏴🏴🏴🏴
St George is also the patron saint of the Scouts. I attended a Scout parade yesterday as my son is a member. All the group flags were carried with the St George's cross and Union flag front and center. Speeches were made about how we should be proud of St George and why he is important to the Scout movement. Hundreds of people were there. Ignore the minority that cry racism at every opportunity to court publicity.

I'm Scottish and I find nothing racist at all about English people flying the flag of England. After all, we Scots proudly fly the Saltire. I also have no problem at all with English nationalism. People should always be proud of the country they are born in and their national heritage.
If there is something with which I have a problem, it is when English people refer to the Union Flag as the English flag or refer to GB or the UK as England.
If you display an England flag in any way when the football isn't on, you are stigmatised as a right wing chav, a union jack seems to be somewhat less offensive. For now.

St George was born in Cappadocia at the beginning of the 4th century (and not to be confused with George the Zealot) who lived a century later.. He was a general under Diocletian, became a Christian and was put to death for refusing to attack fellow Christians. He was adopted as the Patron Saint of both Greece and England. In England replacing Edward the Confessor (under Edward 111) about 1350. The legend of killing the dragon was an analogy - the 'dragon' was sin and corruption, there never was a damsel in distress tied to a stake!

I put my St Georges Day display flags up outside my home last month as I do every year and have done so for 20yrs ( before my wife reminded me it was this month😳the flags go up..derrrrrr ! ), but I left them up anyway. I live on a council estate in Hackney and as you can imagine it's like a UN convention here. Never a complaint about it in 20yrs & only positive reactions from our neighbours to the point where our Turkish neighbour put St Georges bunting up this morning outside his front door. Only " the White Middle Class " call St George a racist symbol.

@hunsey - Indeed. I tried explaining the exact same point in posts a few weeks back, when that young Jewish girl was complaining to the PO about seeing that symbol. He, the PO, got all the slack for not being confrontational about the symbol being on a sign. We even have a council building here in England built circa 1928, so prior to WWII, with that symbol - the svastika, for peace and good, in its stonework. People kicked up a fuss, demanding it be removed. The Council stated it would cost more to remove it, so it remains, as it should. In the presence of negative marches, actually, what better counteracting march than people carrying signs with the emblem of the svastika, showing peace and good. Like you say, unfortunately that won't be allowed to happen.
