I honestly never cared much for ballads before I became an EXO-L, and this song just proves why in my mind. No one does ballads quite like EXO does - all of theirs are able to really make me feel, and I don’t think it’s just me being biased either.
Sarah Porter I loved Ballads before I became an EXO-L, but after becoming an EXO-L, I literally cannot listen to ballads by anyone except EXO anymore. That's how much they ruined me for everyone else.

I love your commentary. Universe is also my favourite EXO song so far. I felt the same way, when D.O started singing and then Chen, but I have to mention Xiumin singing the last chorus. His voice hit me the most, I just didn't expect it. So beautiful.

Yes same! Like my favorite vocal voice in EXO (though they all have beautiful voices lets be honest lol) is Chen, Xiumin part killed. I love how the mv showed the passion and stuff in his voice & face. Plus I'm just a tad bit biased because Xiumin is one of my biases in EXO (I have 4 ok lol)

I recommend listening to the whole winter album. It's beautiful and very different from what they normally do. Ecspecially the song Been Through, its become one of my favorite Exo songs. 🤘🏻

I'm a newish Exo-L (I listened to EXO's music but now I'm finally learning their names) The first time I watched this I got chills and cried I'm not even gonna lie. I get such a calm but yearning feeling when I listen to this. I still get chills every time I hear it. EXO's vocals always awe me.

Okay I'm an exo-l and I've literally cried while watching this mv. I love everything about it and the song is such a masterpiece. So breathtaking. I like the war a lot but cafe universe is definitely now my favourite album.

Usually (and I don't know why) the first time I hear an EXO song, it doesn't capture my attention, BUT if I listen to it a second time, I can't get it out of my head. This video and the beautiful vocals immediately captured my attention. There is a quietness to the song and video that really expresses that yearning. It really allows the vocals to be the center of attention. It also highlights just how attractive the members are, lol. (Sry, I'm only human and those are some pretty men!) :D

As some K-netizens suggested I suppose, EXO's winter album edition from MID, Sing For You, For Life, until Universe is something else. It felt like a whole other universe (pun intended) from their main promotion, and it's beautifully gorgeous.

actually universe was amazing but other songs on the album like stay, fall and been through really made this album one of my favourites if not my favourite exo album. you should check out the whole album, it was genuinely a masterpiece imo :)

I cried the first time I heard this.... Jk I cry everytime I listen to it. It’s so powerful, “I’ll search the universe” literally gives me goosebumps and butterflies, Xiumin’s chorus in particular.

This MV is just so gorgeous! The colors and the themes! And I agree when Chen first said "I'll search the universe" I got goosebumps.
The live version is also very beautiful, as always with Exo ... I saw this mv at least 5/6 times, and each time, I saw details that I missed before. Everything, almost every scenes in this mv are there for a reason, even the two shots with Chanyeol taking off his sweater.
i only found out recently that exo releases amazing ballads. cant believe i missed out on a lot of their songs cause i thought they only released "pop" songs 😩
EXO is very well known for their beautiful vocals, even non EXO-Ls will admit it. Their voices are just so perfect for ballads and their slow songs are honestly so amazing.
Watch sing for you that mv to me is more touching than this but maybe because has more meaning to their fans
They always have at least 1 ballad in a big comeback's album. And also they always release a winter album (mostly ballad) every year
The lyrics can be summarized as 'I'll search the whole universe until I find you because that's what love is.' and considering every winter song by EXO is for fans(so 'you=fans'), the lyric is very moving. As you said it is so romantic and a little addition of tragedy (for me, of lyrics) maximizes the mood.

If you loved Universe then you should listen to the album; The whole album was unexpected (which is what EXO is known for) especially for a winter album that has songs like Been Through, Fall and Lights Out.
Ah, I loved this reaction! I'm really interested in what artists themselves have to say about music and music videos because I aspire to be an artist as well one day. So thank you for your insight. And I really agree with you, this MV and the song just kind of "smell" and "taste" like coffee to me. I absolutely love it and it's one of my favorite EXO songs to date.

I thought universe was it for me until I listened to been through, its honestly better when I didn't think that was possible. I'm not an exol by any means but exo has my respect and love for these two songs, they are gorgeous.

Yes even without the music video the song is independently legendary on it's own. A lot of my non EXO-L friends loved it because even though the song is in Korean and we don't speak Korean, it's so heavy and filled with emotion especially when Baekhyun sings and ahhhhhhh Universe is just so perfect would have been my favorite EXO album is Lay had just been included in it :'(
I knew you'd appreciate this. The cinematography, schemes and symbolism in this video is beyond ones ability to recognize art.
Finally! The vocals in Universe is legit the best I've seen from a ballad because it's so balanced. It's dramatic when needed and tones down when it has to. The electric guitar adds so much soul to it and the piano adds a comforting vibe to it. Its soo perfect. Btw special mention to Xiumin because he needs more recognition, he killes his part on the last chorus. I wish people would appreciate his vocals more.
goosebumps are impossible to avoid when I watch universe. I love that there was a struggle at first: the knots, the chaotic painting, chanyeol struggling with the clothing, then they resolve the issues afterwards. fucking amazing
This winter album is actually really really good, and I am not saying that because I stan them, but it's because the vocals and visuals, instrumentals along with the melody and harmonizations matched very well together.
The song in the album have very meaningful lyrics, and they're the type of songs you can listen to during rainy days, more in winter with the cold weather.

I love how this video adds something to the song without overpowering it. It's balanced just perfectly. And in so many EXO songs, at least title tracks, their voices are drowned in over-production. But here their voices are brought to the forefront. It's magical.
Universe is just perfection just as perfect as exo are. I wonder if there ever will be another group who has as perfect vocals as exo ever in kpop history. I am so glad o exist in the time where exo are making history.

One of my favorite EXO videos of one of my favorite EXO songs from one of my favorite EXO albums...... yep i'm done. this song is so beautiful, it's so ethereal. the video is amazing too, it translates the song into visual very well in such a consistently warm and cozy way. and the album's just great, my favorite track other than Universe is Been Through - love the beat and how it was produced and the lyrics 💗💗💗
The foam in the cup and then then the moving fabric. The steam from the machine and them steam surrounding the member. All these effects from my perspective just have the incredible effect of making a) everything feel connected like it is in a universe b) at the same time makes each person seem like a small piece and adds to the feeling of intimacy.

I have this song on my short repeat list! I love that this is just vocals, even rap line was singing! The MV tones are just so perfect, the browns are warm and soothing which fits this song so well. I also like how none of EXO was whitewashed here, we get to see their beautiful naturally warm skin tones for a change.

yes!! i agree with what you said at 6:46. this is my first time watching the music video, but i’ve been listening to this song on repeat for days. i’ve never really followed exo but this song came on shuffle and it was so breathtaking. and i wasn’t paying much attention to it at first but when chen said “i’ll search the universe” THATS when i was shook.

I fell in love with this song and the MV after this video, and I'm back and watch your reaction again. Whenever I listen to this beautiful song, the warm brown colour and the coffee scene plays in my mind too.
i loved this mv too, it was understated without being boring and the exquisite exposition of the whole palette of browns proves how there is no such thing as an inferior color, its not about cramming in quantity but about clever mindful use of your elements; i dont mean it as shade i swear but its so easy to just be like its a sad one so make it black and white (sing for you) or in hues of blue cause thats so clever (For Life), i really feel like they built their own little self-contained universe lol where the sound the visuals the message are all a single entity and so connected they remind you of each other, and of course i appreciate them not going for the most obvious outer space aesthetic. that said i did not cry cause exo has so many good ballads, my personal fave and reliable tear-jerker is moonlight from the overdose mini that has a melancholic but somehow ethereal feel, it also has cheese electric guitar that is restrained enough it feels wrong to mock it in its context XD

Did you notice how Chanyeol was stucked trying to take his sweater off and then by the end when he finally does his releaved face said so much. And the part when Sehun was looking at the knots painting he passed it and after that Baekhyun was looking at a painting that just had a straight line like indicating everything was solved. I love this MV and song so much!

When I first heard and saw the 'Universe' mv, I cried. And I just cried again hearing all the beautiful commentary you had to say for this song and MV. I completely adore this song so much. Check out the rest of the album, you won't regret it.
It's known that EXO has really powerful and beautiful vocals and every winter they prove that. You should listen to their songs like "Miracles in December", "For Life" and "Sing For You" which are from their winter albums. Also, their song "Promise" just makes me cry everytime I listen to it.
