Vložit
- čas přidán 20. 05. 2016
- Bear Archery makes a range of traditional recurve bows. The Bear Grizzly is one of the most popular. 58" recurve at $600 australian it is one of the cheapest American made recurves.
We compare other recurves at a similar price point then shoot the Grizzly over a chronograph with a 310 and 360 grain arrow.

I've been shooting the same Bear Grizzly in 50# @ 28" since 1964. I've never used a stringer, I use the step through method. The bow s still in perfect condition.
I've been shooting archery equipment since 1960 and never had a bow by Bear fail or twist.
I still target shoot four time a week on my property🎯
Same, 1964 which was actually the first year, 75#, thousands and thousands of shots. It's those super recurved bows that'll twist on you. I just leave my super magnum strung.
I have a #45 Bear Grizzly and love it. It is a solid shooter using gold tip traditional arrows total weight of 460 grains.
I bought a Bear Grizzly recurve back in 1985. I use the bow for everything including bow fishing. I went with 50# draw weight which is good for that length of bow.
bear bows are brilliant in my opinion. I am shooting those for mor than 50 years now and I do not see any reason why to swap to another maker.
Greetings from Germany.....
Thank you for including a speed test very important and is not dependent on opinion but is fact ! i think anyone doing a review without one is lacking for sure !
I have a Bear grizzly. It is a 61 LB it is a great bow. I have a Martin x 200 I believe and it is a 60 LB. Also a very nice bow.
Please familiarize yourself with traditional bows if your going to be passing yourself as someone who knows about it. Those arrows are far to light in spine and weight. Not only are you dry firing the bow when you use a light arrow but you are also voiding a warranty if your using less than 8gpp.
Great reviews Stephen keep it up man👍
The bear is $399 @ cable's in store price as of 09/20/18. That's here In KY, USA
Yesterday I went to Academy here in South Carolina for some gun cleaning gear . They were having a clearance on archery . I walked out the door with a brand new Bear Grizzly 45 lb draw weight for $125 plus tax . I still can't believe my luck .
@@victorwaddell6530 what nice wish I'd been there not like paying 400
@@victorwaddell6530 it probably got dry fired and they had to get rid of it. Ether way good deal. My bear griz got dry fired and ive put about 1000 arrows through it since
58 inches axle to axle? What axles?
Yeah.... he's Australian...... and a poor salesman.
Come on man give him a break!!! He doesn’t even shoot feathers lol
Ya know... By the wheels
I use my bear grizzly as a leaf spring all the time
Bear has been around since the mid 30s. 1936 if I remember right.
According to Wikipedia, Bear Archery was founded in 1933. But it struggled for a long time. Even as late as 1961 it was difficult making ends meet.
Question, every chart I have seen for a 45lb recurve shows 500 spine 125 grain tips. Your shooting a 700 and a 600 spine with light points. How would that shoot with such a weak spine on that bow. I know those grizzlies are cut close to centre. Also your shooting Vanes off the shelf ?
Doesnt seem like he's real familiar with traditional bows.
Yes I am not sure what he is trying to do there.
krs48 I dont knoe but ive heard that recurve bows generally work good with weak arrows and they accept a lot of them
krs48 no one setup will always be correct. A bow may shoot well with 500 and 700 spined arrows but....
For the 700 spine a lighter tip and/or the arrow may have to be cut shorter and the opposite for the 500 with a heavier tip and longer arrow to make the dynamic spine correct.
Vanes off the shelf is weird, I'm guessing as he has target arrows he shoots olympic recurve more than traditional
I've never heard of experienced traditional bow archers using vanes.
Light arrows are bad for trad hunting bows.
Have you got any experience with the great plains bows? I have a model b i absoluttely love
Mine doesn't have the threads on the side for a quiver. It also seems to have some type of cap or plug in the stabilizer thread hole that I can't get out for the life of me! Wish it had the quiver threads, seems like they all would have
I have a Bear Cheyenne. It has quiver thread holes but no stabilizer hole.
In the past, people would just make their own threads for the quivers bear use to sell, and I read that the quiver threads are a new addition in the past few years. I know, Thunderhorn quivers makes a screw on quiver for the Grizzly and so does Great Northern quivers. I would stay away from slide on or strap quivers, unless they come with some type of rod that anchors the 2 pieces of the quiver together. Otherwise, you will be making a lot of adjusting due to the curvature of the limbs.
can you get bows from the manufacturers shipped to australia as a household buyer? I know it doesn't work through amazon generally.
Any chance you could do a review on something like the hoyt excel pro or hpx riser?
Voces enviam para o Brasil?
I have never used a bow stringer and since you sell them!!!!
can u do a review on the bear patriot?
Shooting with vains on arrows rather than feathers ?
I have 3 grizzly buzz a 40 of 45 and a 55 It's a hunting bow and it's a traditional bow so everybody I know shoots feathers and would never spend $300 a dozen forever It's a hunting bow and it's a traditional bow so everybody I know shoots feathers and would never spend $300 a dozen For Arrows You also don't list grains per pound in your chronograph tests I guess you guys in Australia do things differently
'Axle to axle' - what axle? These are trad bows and have now wheels or cams!!
Haha, yea i caught that too. He's obviously a compound guy.
way too weak of arrows......I own several bear bows and never shoot under 10gr per pound.....you can use a heavier and stiffer arrow with the correct FOC and fletching to achieve a much better combination...….plus you will never have to worry about having the dry fire effect on your bow by using such a light arrow
My bows are grizzly 40#, kodiac 50# and a bodnik quick stick 55#...…..I use mainly 2117 and 2018 Easton …..also very happy with gg500's. I go from 100 into the 160's with my field tips and 100-145 on my broadheads...…@30 yards....tip on target....can use the same shafts with different tips and get excellent results from each bow......with min weight of 500 maxing out at 650......maybe 2" drop, but in high west Texas winds I will always take the heavier arrow.
Spend the extra money and buy a Bear. 👍

Axel to axel 🤦♂️🤷🏼♂️😂
Sweet Jesus $500.00 for a bow? I paid $30.00 for my Grizzly. It's used of course and I got it in Cullowhee N.C. in 1986 but 500... It ain't fair to you Aussie folks!
steelgila much smaller market here mate, I think it might have something to do with the archery season you guys have which in turn promotes archery.
Ive been to Australia a few times when I was in the US Navy . Everything imported is more expensive there . During one liberty visit I gave a Swiss Army knife to an Australian Royal Air Force airman that I bought from my ship's store for about $25 US , he told me the same knife would cost about twice that in an Australian store . Australian dollars are a bit 'shorter ' than US dollars too .
There $400 in USA
Currency exchange is a b*tch, but it is also misleading. He speaks of AUS $, not US$. I am in Canada at the moment, and it isn’t worth buying directly from Bear, either, due to custom and shipping fees. You’re better off going through a dealer, as suggested by their own Bear Archery rep.
Terrible vane design for a recurve.
Terrible shooting form.
600$ bucks for ''feels like every other bow'' and 180 FPS? u pay for name here nothing else .
Great reviews Stephen keep it up man👍
