    Cakey. Ugly. HUGE PORES. HUGE SHINY PORES! Thats what this foundation has to offer. The original foundation is utterly amazing. I still use it and love it and its still the foundation of choice that i wear myself. I wear it especially when i film videos because it evens out the skin and makes it appear flawless. Undetectable.
    I had high hopes for this foundation. I was sadly let down. Firstly the shade range are all buggered up. If you are Medium Beige in the original formula chances are you won't be in this. Sure they could have spent more time perfecting the shade range - getting it right? No ... now you need to be shade matched. Makes no sense at all.
    Secondly it has a VERY heavy matte (shiny) look to the skin. And not in a good way. NO NO NO. A BAD BAD BAD WAY. My pores looked like the were glowing - and they looked HUGE! Let me repeat HUGE!
    Interesting fact. Bare Minerals was created originally by Diane Ranger. It was called Bare Escentuals. Leslie took over from where Diane left off! Leslie did an amazing job, but Diane was the original maker of Bare Escentuals.

    I too have been using bare minerals since 1998 and asked during the early 2000's if they would ever do a pressed shadow or foundation and Leslie herself said, You will NEVER see a pressed bare minerals foundation because it would lose the qualities and integrity of the product. Imagine my surprise when first I saw eye compacts with "solid" shadows. They were very careful to say they were not pressed but were "poured solid shadows" which made me believe that they had a process of making a liquid or creamy type of color which was then poured into the pans and allowed to solidify. It turned out that I do really like the solid shadows because it takes so very little to get a good color payoff and I did not notice much if any dusting of the powder color or messy fall out. I know Laura Geller Baked products are made from a crème soufflé and allowed to air dry to solid form and I do like the colors and look of her blushes and her bronze and brighten product and since I had used bare minerals for so many years and liked it (until it seemed the original formula changed and did not agree with my skin so I switched to Matte which is fine on me) I thought maybe the solid bare minerals foundation would be a nice change. But I, like you and many others have found the same problem with it, thick, cakey, chalky, clings to creases or areas like the base of the nostrils, color is OFF, pores look enormous and it is just all in all a VERY poor product. I was hoping it would be good as I cannot afford Jane Aierdale (sp?), and absolutely cannot afford, though LOVE Trish McEvoy. I know this had to be part of the Shiseido company purchase changes attempting to reach a larger customer base, but with any brush and even the lightest hand this is a HUGE swing and a miss! I know I have been on the B.E. blogs and boards and it has been getting VERY harsh reviews, especially from those of us that are long time users of the original product. You have MANY that agree with you on this. I believe that is why they have now launched a liquid "serum" mineral base. We'll have to see how that one goes. Hopefully better than this.

      @WayneGoss  Před 10 lety +46

      i hear you ... the company was taken over (sold) and hence why they have pressed this and pressed that now... its a good thing to expand but they should have used the same colours and formula as the original - that was a big mistake x

      +Cher Silveira Yes I never tried the shadows, so disappointed with the foundation, you can even look at them to see the quality isn't there, and I'm a newer blogger that loves quality, I have less products than many, but those I do have I love. And that's just my style. Just like I'd rather save for my favorite WG brushes than buy a poor brush. . And maybe in the previous years it was a good product, I probably tried it in 2003, the original loose powder foundation, and I just got nothing out of it, and like I said I don't need a lot of coverage, but it was a zero coverage situation.

      +Darlene Machado Actually, they do have the mineral veil in pressed compact. I think they have a couple of types. The mineral veil seems lighter texture than the pressed foundation. I got a small sample compact of the pressed mineral veil and it seemed to act like the original loose and not like the pressed foundation but I would give it a try and see how it acts on your skin. Since they have changed things so much it seems to act differently for everyone. I did like the sample I got of it though.

      I use the new bare pro foundation from bare minerals and it's the most amazing foundation I've ever tried it's more for combination oily skin on me it lasts for about 14 hours before it starts to fade and get oily. it doesn't emphasize my pores(and my pores are the size of pot holes) I don't look very matte at the beginning of the day but I just set it with my mac fix plus. what I love the most is the fact that they extended their color range and now have 30 colors in their bare pro foundation. it was difficult for me to find my shade in the original foundation as I have light olive skin so I always had to mix light and golden medium. bare pro foundation as also helped clear up my acne and texture I had on my skin I am in love!!!
      I'm shade warm medium 12 in the foundation!

    I am 56 and have used mineral foundations for ages. Not to sound boastful, but I am please to say I get compliments about my skin and I'm sure it's to do with what I use:
    1. Jane Iredale Dream Tinted Moisturiser and then her Pressed powder. Over the top I put Bare Minerals Hydrating Mineral Veil as a finish.(My day to day wear). Sometimes I add a light swipe of JI Moonglow.(A bronzer/blush/eye shadow all in one, depending how you use it.)
    2. For a bit more coverage, I use Jane Iredale BB Cream. Use only a very small amount or it is too thick. I put the Bare Minerals Hydrating Veil over the top too. Her liquid minerals are nice too for a lighter coverage.
    3. Bare Minerals Original loose powder with the Hydrating Veil.
    All these give a lovely finish to maturing skin! Jane Iredale is cruelty free, Bismuth free and a little goes a very long way. It is also a skin care treatment as well as a make up. As I wear make up most days, I want to know I am NOT also adding talcs, paraffins, harmful preservatives and oils as well in my make-up, which my skin would have to then absorb.
    Good luck all.
    Ann

    I've been using this one for a few months already and il really like it for the everyday wear, it does cake up of you don't know how to blend it well, I use it with the precision face brush sometimes but most of the time I use it with the full flawless face brush the one for the original foundation and it's how it's works best for me, it's looks natural and pretty that way. I also use face primer that minimizes pores and it sure does help a lot too. On the original I'm in the golden medium shade and I tried to get the ready foundation in the same shade and it was lighter than the original even tho it was the same shade. But I usually fix it by mixing it with a darker shade or bronzing.

    i agree 100%! worst product ever. ive used the original formula for years as well and wanted something with alittle more coverage for my wedding. bought this and hated it! like you said its a weird shiny texture made my pores look huge and my blemishes had a big "look at me sign" on them from the shine. not to mention how off the color was (i'm super super pale and the light in the OG formula works well. not great if you have predominantly pink undertones! thank goodness i bought it from the macys counter and they have an excellent return policy. to be honest i'm not too happy with the new packaging of the OG formula, i feel like i am buying less product for the same price with the weird twisty lid (who ever closes that thing honestly!)

    I love this foundation!! I use the loose powder one as well, but this one is even quicker allowing me to skip the step of pouring out loose power on my cap. I'm able to get medium to full coverage with this foundation, and I don't have any issues with cakeyness! I actually used the brush that came with the original loose foundation first, now switched to the angle precision brush. Not sure if I like it better or not. The original compact that I purchased lasted me 6 months of everyday use! Maybe I use very light coverage for work. But it is awesome for me!!!

    Wayne, I love how honest you are when reviewing products. I know this is an old review, but I personally never cared for Bare Minerals foundation (the original mineral). I've tried tons of mineral foundations over the years and the only mineral foundation I ever truly loved was Laura Mercier. The mineral foundation craze has calmed down a bit in recent years, mainly because cosmetics have gotten better, and there are more choices now, but I still love Laura Mercier's mineral powder (both loose & pressed); and I highly recommend it.

    I work at a BM retailer. The READY is certainly not for everyone, particularly people with enlarged pores. I think a big fault in the foundation was, like you said, the color choices. However, I've seen it lay on some skin types much more beautifully than the Original and Matte. It simply depends on your skin type/texture. I personally find that it looks much better by using the original brushes or a Real Techniques large powder brush before you use the Precision Face Brush. Hope this helped.

    BareMinerals was the first foundation my parents ever bought me and I've been wearing it since for 12 years. I mix the matte with original and its a dream finish for oily skin. When I tried the pressed I thought I had gotten an old one because it was hard to blend and kind of sticky on my oily skin. And, my normal shade of medium dark was more like tan in the pressed formula. I had to go up to the deep range to get a closer match and was still way too yellow based. Horrible. I've steered clear ever since. The few people that I hear good reviews from have dry skin, I think they're who this product is for. Steer clear if you're oily with large pores! 😳

    I do like it. I have a lot of red spots, broken capillaries, and I need full coverage. It looked too yellow in the compact, but I was pleased with the way it covered. I got a lot of compliments on how nice my skin looked. I love the original too, but when I lived in TX, it made my face itchy. I believe the matte does NOT contain bismuth oxide, which is the culprit. I really enjoy your tips!

  • @Beauty2Shoozzz
    @Beauty2Shoozzz Před 10 lety +3

    I have found that if you place a thin layer of mineral veil on the skin prior to the ready foundation, it helps with the final application. I have also used many different brushes to apply the ready foundation and nothing in my opinion, works better than the real techniques contour brush. However, I find that the way they suggest to use it (long strokes), does not work really well because it adds way too much product to the skin on the initial placement - which is insanely difficult to sheer out without actually washing it off and starting over but buffing it into the skin in round circular motions is night and day to the suggested way. A little bit of product goes a long way, as you already now... It was made to start off with a medium coverage that is buildable to full. If you have combination or oily skin, the mineral veil will also assist with keeping the foundation from seperating later in the day because of the coverage it provides (thickness). I hope this is helpful to you...

    I worked for bareMinerals and the recommended way to apply any of the foundations is 'swirl tap buff' - meaning that you swirl the brush in the powder, tap off the excess and buff into your skin in circular motions. The more circles you make on a certain area the more coverage you get without needing to pick up extra product! Just a lil tip!

      E.L.F does a fairly good medium to heavy coverage foundation that's in their studio line, it doesn't feel heavy at all and you're pores don't look too big, and I'm sure you don't have to use a lot of it. I have a bit of redness, scaring, and dark cirlces, but even with all that, I only use about half a pump/squeeze of the product. (When I first got it, I did alittle over a pump, because I was used to using a pump and a half with my makeupforever, and that was waay too much with the E.L.F one) Also,it's suppose to fight acne, though I don't want to say it's completely true, because your skin is different than mine, but it did help me with my acne and from some of the review it also helped other people too.

    I actually love this foundation, I've been using it on and off since it was first released. I liked the ease of use as compared to the loose, and I get better results as well. I use the brush that BM made to go with it, and it works great. I tap it on the surface of the cake, tap off the excess and go in smoothing strokes over my face. After that, I go back and buff it in with circular motions. You are only supposed to need to pick up product once or twice, more than that you will get cakey. I love your videos Wayne, you are real and honest and give practical advice. :)

I'm like you, I've been using the original since it came out on QVC, but now that I'm in my 50's (YIKES!!), it looks a little too dry, well a lot, really, on my skin, unfortunately, so I'm only using the last teaspoon or so in my last container in the summer when my skin is a wee bit oilier, and using crappy liquid foundation the rest of the time. Thanks again. I'm learning so much from you.

    • @phoenixgrove
      @phoenixgrove Před 9 lety +1

      I use Estee Lauder's Double Wear foundation and I absolutely love it! It is a full coverage foundation and you only need a coin drop to cover your entire face, and if still you're not satisfied you can layer it up without it making your face cakey, speaking of which It does not get cakey and overloaded at all and you can even set it up with a loose powder if you're going to wear it all day long. It might be a small bottle but just a pinch of it is enough to give you that beautiful foundation finish and so it has lasted me a long time. I use it with my real techniques buffing brush when I wear it, but a wet beauty blender does great wonders too :) ... I hope my feedback helped.

    • @phoenixgrove

      Tatiana Paolah it is ok for everyday wear but make sure you wear only a little bit, if you over layer it then it will make it obvious that you have something on your face. Luckily it doesn't get cakey. But maybe I don't find it cakey because I have combination skin, if you have dry skin then one layer would be enough.

    I use this foundation and I love it! It took many tries to get a routine to make it look good so I can see why you think it's bad! When I first used it, it did give me HUGEEE pores. Using the prime time primer helped a lotttt. and putting a tinted mositurizer, BB cream, or concealer under it helps alot. I think the foundation needs something to cling on to other than just a face lotion. And how you apply it with a brush makes or break the finish too.

    I have been using BM for 9 years and I LOVE this foundation! I have to say you're applying it with a verrry heavy hand. Purchase one shade darker from the color you usually use in the original formula or get a color match. I use a light, soft brush and apply sparingly with soft strokes building the coverage up as I need it. A little bit of this product goes a LONG way. I usually apply two light coats. Never ever buff! It doesn't buff and melt into the skin like the original formula. I have sensitive, acne prone (due to sensitivity) skin with large pores in T zone and fine lines in forehead and this foundation works great for me. Just don't use a ton and buff it in. I did the same the first time I tried it and it looked like crap!

      Well you should step into daylight because the flaw isn't in user error. Even if it's tapped and buffed the reflective quality of this powder and the way it clings to patches and lines is awful! It's a cheaply made, mass produced product that is nothing close to the original bare minerals loose. All the reviews were bad and the majority of the comments on here are negative, it's just a crap product and doesn't Minnick skin like mineral makeup is supposed to. No one likes cake face, and that's what this does.

    this foundation has worked well for me! however, i do not suffer from large pores. i do agree that there can be a lot of fall out, but i tap the brush VERY gently to grab the powder and tap off excess if needed. i also gently press the powder into my skin, instead of stroking it vertically/horizontally, circular motions. i can build coverage if i start light. i love the shiny/dewy glow it gives my skin!

    This product works really well for me depending on what brush I use! I bought the angled brush by BM, which the MUA recommended but it's rubbish. HOWEVER, when I use my EcoTools large round domed brush, (it's big, soft and dense) it works wonders. Close to no fall out and one dab, picks up enough product to give light coverage. Do give it a go! Love your videos :)

For me this foundation works best without moisturizer or primer beforehand, and with a healthy dusting of the tinted mineral veil. I use both products daily because they stop my face from getting shiny in the summer heat/humidity and contain a good spf

    I agree! I'm an avid bare mineral user & I hated the Ready powder! I was shocked when I tried it too. It's very heavy, cakey coverage with the shiniest finish that settles on every tiny line and accentuates blemishes. It was just awful for me & it got worse the longer it was on my skin. Luckily, Bare Minerals was fabulous about the return and I exchanged it for my original loose mineral powder foundation.

  • @Kianableu

    The Ready foundation is meant to be a full coverage-first application foundation and is advertised that way. It doesn't need to be built up like the other foundation (Original/Matte). It does needs to be buffed in just like the others. No foundation looks amazing in one swipe. Use the suggested flat top brush and press into skin, then buff. I work at Bare Minerals and the Ready foundation is my personal favorite.

    I have always had a slight problem with Bare Minerals product, no matter how much I buff, it always looks like i am wearing a mask. I switched to Physicians Formula, their super BB cream with their Happy formula pressed powder seems to give me the coverage and tone evening and it has a pheremone in it that boosts your mood, it makes my skin luminous without the crazy shimmer. I work construction, and it doesn't look like i am wearing a full face of make up and helps protect my skin from the sun and dirt, and I don't look like a scrub, lol. There's a reason why Silvia never wanted to do a pressed formula.. Not surprised that the new manufacturer tried it and failed. Who wants a shiny, high coverage cake face showing all their pores and lines? It is good for absolutely nothing, and is an incredibly poor representation of what mineral powder can be. Awful product, completely agree. Gave mine away to a friend, who then passed it on again and NONE of the girls liked it. It's just clings to flaws, settles into lines, gives patchy coverage and makes everyone have cake face. This is such a fail and I'm so disappointed in the direction bare minerals has taken. Thank god you agree and were ballsy enough to call them out in their sh*t. Thanks Wayne

    I used this for a long while (about 6 months) and hit pan on 2 of the foundations! I thought the product being pressed in a compact would work great for travel. I originally thought it looked great over my light coverage liquid foundations, but after a while, this product made my pores look HUGE and my skin appear dry and cakey! It even began to make my skin break out. :/
    I recently went back to the original formula foundation and I forgot how totally AMAZING it is! It leaves my face looking smooth and absolutely flawless. I will take the little bit of mess with the loose powder any day, because it is definitely now my holy grail powder! Nothing I've tried even comes close in comparison! :)

    I tried to love this product because I saw several women use it who looked flawless. The palettes with the bronzer and highlighters were gorgeous for the price, but the foundation really looked terrible on me. The only thing I really liked about ready was taking a small brush and using it as a concealer over my un- coverable blemishes because it was so full coverage. I feel like a similar (but not exactly the same) product could potentially make an excellent powder concealer. I recently tried barepro and it is fabulous. I was worried it would look cakey like this but it is fantastic on my combo/ oily skin. I hope bare minerals makes a barepro palette! You should ask them to do it Wayne!

    I agree on this, other than the fact that it does matter about the type of skin you have. I have combination skin and it works on me, but in the spots that i may be a bit more oily (or when i put on moisturizer), it separates easily. But because I cannot return this product and it was of quite an expense for me, I've learned to use moisturizer, then take a tissue and dab my face, to take off any excess liquids.
