    I just bought one for $139.00 plus tax ($150 out the door.) I glued many section together for added strength, including the two top drawers. I did not add the large drawer because I realized it would provide ample wood to build a matching tool tray to the backside. I installed dowels in few sections for added stability. I glued the cross member in place as well. It is very solid now. I took out the felt in the drawers since they were more like fuzzy paper than real felt. I intend to line them with some cherry venier 1/4" plywood I have left over from another project. Built properly this table is a great buy. Also, the only MDF in mine was the bottom of the drawers, everything else was hardwood.

    I've had the same workbench that I bought 10 years ago. (My version has 4 drawers). I would only suggest using glue in addition to the screws in order to make it more stable. I keep thinking that I'm going to upgrade my bench someday but there's no need for me to do so.

    Great video. We purchased two of these on sale for $139 each (internet coupon) -- and they're every bit as good as described in your video. I checked them out in the store, it was easy to see they were assembled sloppily. I would consider this a light-duty bench -- not for mounting heavy work. With that understood, it works fine. Unlike yours, my drawer side pieces are finger-jointed hardwood, vs. MDF. I have zero wood-working skills and found the bench pieces well-labeled and easy for one-person assemble. As with IKEA projects, it's a matter of getting in to the right head space -- earbuds and podcasts work for me -- and not proceeding further til you understand the instructions. Took me about 90 minutes each to assemble -- much of which was unwrapping the excellent packaging. HEADS UP: as others have noted: it is easy to get the side pieces for the drawers backwards. These were the #11 and #12 pieces on mine, and if you get these backwards the drawers won't insert. As others have noted, I actually would say the instructions are mislabeled for these two parts. Definitely take your time with the first drawer, do a test fit, and don't do the other drawers until you fully understand how they assemble. I am having wheels delivered today, so I can move the tables into a more square-ish configuration -- for bigger projects when the benches aren't up against the end of our garage. In a nutshell: solid, excellent value, strong design, easy to assemble and well thought out. Thanks for the very professional, cut-to-the-chase video!

    This is a pretty solid little workbench. While once you figure out how it comes together, it is physically Easy to assemble czcams.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh by yourself. But the diagrams explaining the steps are really pretty bad. I could not get the handle pins in all the way despite multiple attempts, so I just used a screw I had on hand for the 2nd handle. I could not get the first pin in further or pull it back out. You are supposed to hammer it in, but I had no leverage and the handle is plastic and I did not want to risk breaking it. I will get a lot of use out of the bench because of the convenient size and height. It does fold up nicely for storage. They even explain how to fold it so you don't get pinched...that is important!

    I have one. It was either build one for $600 in lumber alone, plus plans and hardware for Vice and all. I was in my local HarborFreight, turned around and couldn’t believe my eyes. No reviews, but I ended up deciding to get their credit card for additional savings. Parking lot sale right now… this bench is $160. If you take advantage of first credit card use, you would score pretty nicely. It’s allowed me to begin building planter boxes and jigs, rather than spending a lot of money and time just setting up to be project ready. The dog holes lead down into the drawers. So if the holes are not plugged, you’ll have a drawer full of sawdust. I plan on making hood down clamps and other bench accessories. I’ll also be sanding off their clear coat (I called to ask about the finish) to apply several coats of my good UV outdoor rated varnish since it’s on the back porch covered with a moving blanket. For the price and quality to get started or for the weekend projects, I too would recommend the bench.

    Got an email from HF with a coupon for this 60" hardwood workbench. I checked out the display and determined the staff didn't do the best job in assembly, but Hey! ...Any-hoo, bought the bench and took a good portion of the day to assemble (among some other chores). Everything worked out great except for the 3 large woodscrew holes to attach the top to the right leg assy. With the drawers installed before the table top, the bench worked great. I affixed the table top to the left leg assy first with the 3 large wood screws, leaving them loose for alignment when attaching the right side. The pilot hole spacing on the table top to the right leg assy was 1/2" or more off, so I pulled them todgether with q C-clamp for assembly. This of course messed with the bottom drawer and slides - not as smooth and easy opening. The only MDF is the felt lined drawer bottoms. The rest is finger-jointed Asian hardwood - stretching the term of "solid" to those that know better. But the price point can't be beat even for this borderline quality product. Some X bracing to the back of the unit, and some steel inside corner brackets for all the drawers would be a good idea. I will not use it for anything heavy duty as I have a steel welding table that I made 30 years ago and that baby don't budge. I will use the Yukon workbench mostly as a catch basin for Hoppe's No. 9 if you get my spin drift. I think the model I bought is an improvement from prior models for the lack of MDF and the drawer BB slides are pretty good.

    Some people say the drawers don't fit. It is not that the drawers are made improperly. It is that there are a few errors in the instructions for assembling the drawers on page 7 of the instructions (2022) copyright version shows the right drawer slot panel (12) an the left drawer slot panel (11) in the wrong position. The locations are flipped . both instruction paragraphs 18 and 20 have these errors. The drawer hardware has to be mounted so the boxed end of the slider is to the front of the drawer it is very hard to tell from the illustrations, the back end of the drawer slider is the opened-ended tapered down portion. If you reference the assembly drawing on page 11 you can see the conflicting drawer side panels. This video also says that the drawer sides are laminated MDF. The ones that I purchase in March 2024 are hardwood composite. Just the drawer bottoms are MDF. Don't glue anything unless you have test-fitted it first. They back out the screws a bit and glue if that is your plan. if you assemble the drawers as the instructions say then the drawers won't fit in properly, unless you modify the boxed end slider that is in the wrong position by bending it back. You will still have an issue that the drawer will not fully open because the detent mechanism is too far forward. There is another video review of this product that is showing the assembly on the older four drawer version and He complains because the drawers don't fully open, that's because he assembled the drawers incorrectly. I do find it remarkable that years have gone by and these errors have not been identified by the manufacturer and corrected.

      Yes if you orientate the drawers the other way it would put the vice on the other side. However it is positioned towards the side of the bench so if you had it against the wall on the other side it might not have a lot of clearance, does that make sense?

  • @gusharris7488
    @gusharris7488 Před rokem

    Only issue I had was installing the back of the long drawer. The holes in the drawer bottom did not line up with the pilot holes in the back board. And it didn’t matter if I reversed the board. They still were about 2 inches off. The drawer bottom goes only one way…felt to inside and holes in it to the back for screwing down as you show to the back board. So I know I had it correct. This would be an issue if someone didn’t have a drill and bit to drill through the holes already in the bottom and into the back board to create their own aligned pilot holes in the back board…which is what I did to correct the obvious manufacturing error. If you screwed it without pilot holes you might cause splitting in the backboard edge! Also no need to clamp the extended slides like you did. Just leave them all the way in and carefully align each drawer slide and slide the drawers in. You’ll hear them snap as you pass the locking tabs and once you hear that just slide them the rest of the way in.

    I'm a hand tool inclined hybrid woodworker who has been looking somewhat at this bench and it's predecessor. How does it hold up against racking forces in either direction lengthwise or across like with hand planing tasks? I plan to build a beefy semi Roubo style bench in my workshop space but would use this one in my apartment which is apart from my workshop space.

    • @_Shopfix
      @_Shopfix  Před rokem +2

      I tested this out right away after I built the workbench. The workbench Unleveled on my garage floor had little to no rocking width wise (front drawers to the back) length wise there was a tad bit of rocking. Once I installed leg levelers onto the bottom of the workbench and leveled it to the garage floor I did not notice any noticeable rocking from either side. I think leveling the workbench is key. Also adding some weight to the drawers and shelf of the workbench probably helps as well.

    • @BishjamIC
      @BishjamIC Před rokem +1

      @@_Shopfix I was referring to racking, not rocking. Like when you lean back in an old chair and the joints kind of give a bit and it wobbles at those connections. Truly the best test for it would be how it survives over time I suppose. I kind of simulated by wobbling the one on display in my store and it's pretty solid but could certainly have used some improvement.

      You're not wrong. You really gotta do something. You can put a thin layer of plywood underneath and just vacuum out occasionally (which is what i did).
      The table top is only an inch thick so there's plenty of room underneath to solve that problem.
      It's a pretty obvious design shortfall, but for the price i can deal with that

    • @gusharris7488

      Exactly. I think a thin panel applied underneath the top would solve this. But you might have to cut off some of the length of the dogs if they stick down and extend longer than the thickness of the top.

    • @_Shopfix

      I would agree the rails and drawer installation is the trickiest part of assembly. I’d comment right here for others that shortening up the width of the drawers with a miter saw is a quick fix if they are too tight and difficult to install. But I agree for the price it’s not too bad of a hiccup.

    • @_Shopfix
      @_Shopfix  Před rokem

      @@degeneratecollector9950 to make the drawers smaller in width you’ll need to crosscut the back piece smaller and that will reduce the width of the drawer to help it slide. If it still is too wide then you’ll need to cut the rabbets deeper on the front panel. Try the back panel smaller in width first because that’s the easiest cut.

      I agree the drawers are the most difficult part of the assembly. If anyone finds the drawers too be too tight I would shorten the width of the back of the drawer with a miter saw to help the drawer slide in better. In my assembly instructions I also detail a good method to install the drawers.

    • @_Shopfix

      The dog holes are 3/4ths in diameter and from the bottom of the top shelf to the workbench top is 5.5". If the hold fast clamp is 3/4ths in diameter and won't hang through the dog hole more than 5.5" then yes it would work. I suppose you could pull the drawer out to use longer hold fast clamps. Hope that helps!

    • @gusharris7488
      @gusharris7488 Před rokem

      Are you sure you pushed them hard enough to go past the locking tabs when you put them in. The drawer will go about halfway, and then stop…requiring a bit more pressure to slide it on in. It pushes the plastic stops down as it slides over them. You’ll hear a snap as this occurs. Then slide it on in completely. Now it slides in and out easily but stops with some of the drawer still under the top. If the stops weren’t there nothing would keep it from coming completely back off when you pulled it out!

    I bought one of these. I STILL have no idea what the pegs, metal squares, and holes on the top are for. Can someone break it down for me? I heard something about a vise, and I have a vise, but...how do the pegs and holes help me put on a vise? I ended up finding an oak hardwood dowel, cut it into the right lengths, and tapped them flush into all the holes to make the top smooth. What am I missing? No one in any video explains them and the manual doesn't either.

    • @_Shopfix
      @_Shopfix  Před rokem +4

      The holes are called dog holes and you can use dog hole bench clamps with the holes. That way you can clamp things down directly to the surface of the workbench. If you add a peg or the metal peg to the holes of the workbench and on the vise you can lay a board flat on the workbench and clamp it horizontally to keep it in place while you sand or plane, etc

    I have 2 of them. I would not buy another one of them. The bench is not sturdy enough to keep from rocking when you are working at the bench. The vise racks too easily when using it. The older one is about 5 years old and is not holding up at all. It’s falling apart. I can only use the newer one now and only for light work.😮

  • @rickjackson6796

    Harbor Freight has 5 versions of this bench, all with different model numbers. I never bothered to look, so I didn't get the one that was on the floor at the store, that one has 4 drawers, all versions are made in viet nam and probably in the samr workshop.
    Out of the box, the YUKON version of their work bench is a piece ofJUNK, that said, I purchased one about 2 weeks ago because I would never be able to build one from the ground up for that amount of money, I paid $160.00 + tax. Be forwarned, DON'T TRY TO USE A HAND PLANE WITH THIS BENCH, it will rack to the point of almost splitting the legs. I am now in the process of rebuilding the bench pretty much totally. I had an old solid core door that I cut to the inside dimention of the the bench top and glued that intothe cavity, that turned a 3/4 inch bench top into one that is now almost 2 1/4 inches and youcan dance on it. I have a ways to go to finish my rebuild, I will probably spend another $ 150.00 on the project, but I will have a real bench that wil stand up to hard work. The drawers are real garbage. Don't pass on this bench if you don't mind doing some work to it, you will not be able to build one like for less than $ 300.00.
