    Turning off the "fast startup" feature is one of the very first things I do when I reinstall Windows. It's also a useful action to take when, as I have, you have a dual-boot configuration with, say, Linux!

      Fast Startup is pretty much worthless on modern computers with an SSD ..... For me it makes my system boot a whole 15 seconds faster but it causes all kinds of problems including taking up drive space for the hiberfil.sys file .....

    One sure fire way to do a cold boot is to turn your pc off, disconnect the power and hit the power button. This will bleed off any residual energy still in the resistors and cmos. This will clear a lot of issues. Anyone ever hear the anecdote, "I took it to the repair shop. When I got there they booted it up and nothing was wrong." Well the time it took for you to get from your home to the repair shop was sufficient to do what I am suggesting. The power completely bleeds away until the pc does a full shutdown and reboot.

    • @cwtek1
      @cwtek1  Před 8 měsíci

      This can help in some situations but it does not restart drivers etc as their state is saved on the hard drive and even draining the power does not wipe that, thankfully.

    First thing i do with a new motherboard or building a new computer for someone is to disable fastboot. While having fast boot enabled will help with a mechnical disk but for the last decade NO ONE should have a mechnical disk as their OS drive NO ONE!!! having Fastboot enabled might speed up the boot but a couple of seconds it's not worth the hassel of what issues can come from it. Also it means more writing to the SSD which you don't want for a SSD anyway unless you want it to fail sooner?
