Secondary fuel filter, 2inch lift, decent all terrain tyres, roof rack, dual battery system, driving lights, uhf, brush bars
I would recommend getting a diary for the car where write in what’s been done ie the date the km and what was fitted or what was done on the service.
I would look at all the bushes, engine mounts, gearbox mounts etc and consider replacing the lot.
For filters and oils unless you have exact dates on when it was all changed last, I would change it all as it’s an auto and you plan on towing I would be changing the gearbox and transfer case oils yearly. Oil is cheap gearboxes are not.

It's ridiculous how clean that 80 is! My F-Truck is less then a month old is dirty then that seriously.
I bought a 100 series approximately 18 months ago for a secondary build vehicle and turned it into a 400 hp off-road weapon. I've had many people ask to buy it, but I always respond saying it will be a family heirloom. Im sure you'll do the same, so easy getting parts.. best of luck with the build

Don't do anything to the 80. Leave it stock as a rock.
Don't change anything. Just add a dual battery setup with a fridge.
You don't need big tyres, rock sliders, or a ridiculously high suspension lift. In it's stock form it will take you wherever you point it.
    Keep it subtle.
    K.I.S.S.

    • @trevorjane9457
      @trevorjane9457 Před měsícem +1

With dual battery ensure poles are the same on both batteries and you have manual override linking switch. I had fancy dual battery in 80 series and when one goes flat it wouldn't switch across and impossible to manually exchange batteries - dual batteries that required a jumper lead - go figure. Mine crapped itself up in the gulf middle of nowhere

    • @jimm3379
      @jimm3379 Před 18 dny

Agreed - put the money towards some fishing trips instead.
I think the 4WD bling is a bit of a wank.
If your sponsors want to foot the bill completely, that could be different. They’re getting off real light, if they’re just supplying at cost. In fact, I’m now viewing them as complete tight asses considering the eyeballs you’re giving them.

Thats a clean 80, I am in the Car trade I bought a genuine 2001 Prado done 42000kms i owner with Books etc, it is clean as your 80, it make me wonder why you would change it, keep it clean and genuine as you got it and you will get your money back in years to come as the next person wont want you have done yes some will some wont but when is as genuine as yours keep it that way i say

Can tell the Silverado meant a lot to you mate, it was a sick piece of metal. But, that 80 is a work of art! I know Superior engineering suspension has been great in my Prado (Dad bus). Just don’t go crazy on tyre size or it will be a slug and be labouring to do the basics. Big love for the Chanel. Glad you found something you love working for. Money definitely ain’t always roses for one’s head space!

Sick, look fwd t your build.
Re the 80 and ya mods, esp re tires and wheels, dont go over neg 22 offset, stick with 8' width, I went 10" and going back!
If going to 35s, do the 105 Pitman Arm upgrade, there's a kit, its needed if you go to 35" or you will be breaking it! While ya at have the steering box chassis brace added. If ya lifting it, def look at your radius arms and Panhards they need to be adjustable and extended makes a big difference to how it drives and stability. Extended Superpro swaybar links at the rear these are a huge upgrade over stock and allow better handling and flex. I did my swaybars as well to SP 30mm, Id do the rear but the front is not necessary, Id rather go the Anti rock way but its not cheap! I have yet to look at the front sway bar chassis mounts there are 2 types the straight pin type or the shape chassis links, usually on 93 onwards 80s they are bigger stronger than the earlier ones which I have, going to get some off a later model at the wreckers and se if I can fit them on, the later model 80s also have a bigger sway bar and not necessary to upgrade, but the rear links are! Take a stock one and compare it to the SuperPro one its night and day difference it will reduce binding as well better flex but better stability and its 20% longer. You can do upper and lower control arms, but before you do, Id do the Panhards and drag and tie links first, Superior Comp specc my rec! Superior have released a new Alloy version of their lower control arms, imo you don't notice much difference in handling doing these, but they are indestructible, where as the factory ones are thin as, but again adjustable for upper allows you to adjust the pinion angle if you need to. Dont go above a 3" lift 2-3 is the sweet spot, all the kids go bigger but they just become unstable and tippy in real off road situations!
Engine oil Delo MGX 400 15W-40 its awesome, I have the same engine 1HD-T, mine is a 5pd MT so cant recommend ya trans oil, but
TRANS - should be Dextron ATF 11 or 111 type 4 dry fill 6litres
Transfer Box, 1.4 litres API GL4 do not use 4/5 like many brands advertise, it must be 4 if you want it to last and highly recommend this in diffs as well.
Penrite do do a genuine GL4 75W-90 recommended (many Toyota dealers do not know this, so don't trust it) ya can do a search, highly recommend ya pickup a LC workshop manual, Haynes or whatever. Older vehicles and never fluids for gearbox's, TBs, difs dont like all the newer additives.
or you can use Redline MT90 75W-90 many swear by this as well, but more so for a Manual Trans esp if a bit tired or prob had GL5 in them. eats them up.
This might help ya a bit as a guide only, pretty close.
    www.roughtrax4x4.com/blog/land-cruiser-hdj80-hdj81-vehicle-specifications/
XR6 seats in the front for comfort, Huracan do a seat bracket for them.
Add an EGT gauge and Boost Gauge! JRP or Savage are really good value, I use a SAS pillar pod, simple as!
Id Bush Wrapz it since that paint is mint!
IMO another thing I wish Id done sooner is remove the rear bumper, and factory tow rack, its sits low and really restricts your angles off road, since I have done this is massive. It feels like I'm driving a shorty in through dips steep banks drop offs and ups, I like low weight so I went with a tube style rear bar that sits at my chassis level so it keeps that clearance and way lighter that typical plate bumper, like say Cruiser coy or something, there's is still good though! Also much less stress on the driveline.
Imo if towing ya want an integrated hitch and use an adjustable removeable drop hitch! I rarely tow with mine and I have other vehicles I can use so not a priority for me, clearance is everything to me, I'm on 35' too.
I still see others leave there removeable ones in and get hooked up or drag them in the banks, never can understand why some cant pull a pin out and have better clearance? Also this can stress ya prop shafts and Uni's, I did my front prop shaft last year, had the tube replaced with 4mm tube its bullet proof of rocks, again these are very thin from factory like 1mm stupid easily dinged and they will spin apart like winding wool so keep an eye on them for dings!
Stones or rock dings kills them! really does not take much, the auto's the lengths are different to the manual, take a measurement of both shafts before ya take it to the bush so ya know ya lengths, so ya can have them repaired instead of replacement if ya ever do damage to them, they can be made stronger than factory, also good if you boost power, (if engine turbo mods in future).
Plus check you Uni's and always carry a spare, the Uni are different size for front shaft compared to the rear shaft.
Ya can go crazy but that will get ya started off and improve the vehicle allot, biggest thing is regular service, extended breathers, I just did all my fluids and I do lots of water mud etc, and all is clean as esp the trans box and gearbox, really impressed. I'm using the Penrite GL4 because I couldn't get the Redline currently and its running smooth as. I wont use anything else but the Delo in my engine.
Anyways look fwd to seeing what you do.🤘

Hey Adam, Proud owner (24 years) of an 80 series station wagon. Outside of suspension upgrades, the best change i made to my rig was going to 16 inch rims and fitting 285 x 75R 16's tyres. I only tow a 4.5M tinny which you don't even feel behind the vehicle. They're a great old comfortable truck.
