Finished or Project Car - Yes to both. Both answers are correct because their are two types of buyers.
Finished Car Buyer - This may sound harsh but it's true, the guy who buys a finished car in many cases does not have the ability or creativity to do the project car thing, therefore he buys a quality built car and is happy.
Project Car Buyer - This guy has skill, he knows what to look for and can do much without the help of others. This guy wants to pick the interior and exterior fabrics and colors. He wants to pick the tires and rims, he builds HIS vision of what a Mustang is in his eyes. Lastly, all this choices are new not used. More expensive to build but again all to his vision.
You guessed it, I'm a project car guy. I built my 68 Mustang and it's exactly what I wanted when I was in high school.

Project gets you in the game, faster. I paid $400 for mine and haven't regretted it since! Sold at auction recently for $60Grand, but going back to your question, the Engine Dress-Up kit only looks good on '64 1/2-'67. After '67 it doesn't look right, IMH0.

Why is there no tach? Seeing how the ignition was upgraded why not upgrade the dash with a tachometer?

My Pops has one of these never repainted the color is dull it was candy apple red but the color faded away. the car still runs, it's just been sitting for 5-7 years now. It's also a dragster.

I have a 68 Cougar with bench seat and 302 motor as well. Are Cougars still desirable?
Sure! It depends on condition and options as always though.
You hit it on the head. The only reason to buy a non finished car is to bond with a child spouse or friend. I however recommend keeping the project where its drivable. Everything should be a weekend project at a time this way you can still enjoy it. And wont get burned out . Just my opinion
I know Magnum 500 wheels are very popular, but I much prefer the original GT argent painted wheels.
As far as the engine compartment- I'd put the Original air cleaner in, remove the lid and replace it with the open element lid. That's just me though

Did all 68' J codes come with dual exhaust and H pipe?
My 68’ J code Sprint came with single exhaust...will be upgraded soon to dual.

Ed Cain A bench seat in itself is not rare. Options are what make a car rare and the # of cars built with that option that make it rare
As regards the motor, it's the exact same platform minus a few slight mods by Shelby. The bench seat is definitely rare in a GT Mustang with these options.
I do believe I’d have more fun building a car with my son, as well as teaching him how to do all the work.

Cash2112 GTA was used one year only in 1967 to distinguish the difference between auto and manual transmission. This is a 1968 model.
