- This animation goes over the TMJ (tempormandibular joint) anatomy as well as 5 common disorders that involve this jaw joint. Keep in mind that although TMJ disorders are often diagnosed and initially treated by an ENT doctor (because of its association with ear pain), usually these conditions are referred to oral surgery or dental for definitive management.

yeah i sneezed weird today and now it hurts. i also do have tmj cus my mom gave it to me 😍
I’m so glad you said TMJ DISORDERS. People usually just say “TMJ”, but we all have a TMJ. We all don’t have TMJD
man people in USA use contraction for everything, so lazy (imo, tbh, btw,fr,asap........................................)
Omg yes it annoys me so much when people say TMJ
I had TMJ arthritis for 10+ years which lead to my joints getting damaged really bad but I just got my jaw joint replacement surgery done and I'm doing better so far

Where did you do ?
My face have f up because of this
My jaw had randomly started popping and I thought it was funny. Before the popping tho once or twice a year for like two years, my cheekbone/ jaw would be numb and painful to smile and talk. I never thought much of it because my mom said muscles cramp sometimes. Then when my jaw began popping more frequently and I began to feel pain, it still took a while before my mom took it serious ( she didn’t realize my popping was so loud and painful), which is probably why it’s so bad now, it’s gotten so bad that I can’t eat chips anymore, I even got extreme pain from eating a sandwich, and sometimes drinking water. I get pain in my neck, eyes, and especially ears. Also before my jaw began to pop my ears would extremely hurt when I would wear headphones even with no music playing, my bonnet even cause my ears and jaw to hurt and it’s not even Tight. I can no longer sing because my jaw will hurt for days, singing is my favorite thing 😢. I hate this so much like it’s really caused me so much stress and it’s depressing being in pain and/ or uncomfortable everyday hearing that there is nothing that can be done.
Go to the chiropractor to get it checked out
im with you
Do they do the same job as physiotherapy?
Wait it's same with me 😢
Keep looking for jaw release and relaxing exercise doctor are so so so useless sometimes
Sometimes my jaw locks in place. I have pain in my face right next to my ear. If I massage the area for relief, it makes a HUGE popping sound. It's painful, and sends pain through my ears too.
Almost what I’m experiencing don’t know how this happened
you need medical attention friend
I don't feel pain but i was sleeping on one side when i changed the side it happened and I can't open my mouth😢😭😭😭
Its called lockjaw my friend 😊
How are u now
Great video. I have a lot of popping, and sometimes I can't open my mouth wide. I have been dealing with this for 10 years.
Me too, 😔
have you looked for medical advice?
@@MarceloArzubialdeRodriguez Doctors keep saying there's nothing they can do about it or ignore what I say.
My popping has been going on for about 2.5 years now. So I went to the dentist and they said it was because of my wisdom teeth, so they removed them. I’ve had them removed for over a year now and my popping still continues…don’t know what else to do
@@sebastianorozco1114what else have you tried?
Its actually really painful experience. I've this TMJ disorder from 2020 & consulted many doctors, had many x-rays etc but they all said there is no treatment of it just a few exercises can help & I should avois opening wider mouth even while eating or talking.
Same for me. It’s very uncomfortable to not be able to open my mouth wide like I used to and yeah I just have to do exercises and not open wide
for me it wasnt so painful, i just HATED it because it was so uncomfortable
@@AlterXer It's not painful all the time but my mouth gets slightly twisted when I bite food mistakenly a lil harder sometimes & it would pain after that & as I've both jaws affected so its extra uncomfortable bc sometimes one is too tight & other is a lil lose & vice versa & due to TMJ my face has grown a lil asymmetrical in these 4 years than it was & it has affected my whole neck & ears area too.
Fascinating video!!! Great clarity of what is taking place and identifying what ailments are at play
I'm not quite sure which disorder I have as all my doctors simply put it under TMJ. On the left side it clicks, becomes inflamed, and will try to lock when I open my mouth. On the right side, there is no locking or clicking but there is extremely intense pain and muscle spasms. I grind my teeth at night and have been told surgery isn't worth it.
I also feel intense pain and spasms but on my left side. Its awful😢
@@alexndannycasillas5526u still experiencing it?
So what you do to get rid of pain and so that you can eat properly?
@@Tenzkiii Two 800mg Ibuprofen, two 500 mg Tylenol and muscle relaxer. I also use ice packs (heating pads seem to have a negative effect), and MASSAGE I can't stress enough the importance of massaging the area, I do it several times throughout the day. I also go on soft foods for a few days when pain first starts and I keep track of triggers (hard food, cold air, position, etc.)

So guys here me out i have the solution of this⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
You have to do a task
But I myself lose the task (i will tell at the end)
Step 1: get a ice cubes (1or2)
Step 2: get them in your cotton hankie(the hankie should be thin)
Step 3: close ice cubes in your hankie like footballers do
Step 4: And final, now rub in your jaw where you have tmj
Do this task whenever you r free
Do this minimum 1 week and you get relief and you will get rid of tmj 100%
And here's my story
Iam having this issue i think 1 year ago
After 8-9 months i get this trick by someone
And you know what? It works!! And i was 90% recovered.
But damnn this 8-9 months(when i had tmj) i got the habbit of making clicking sound of my jaw and this habbit kills me and now iam in level 0
So here me out
SELF CONTROL IS THE KEY
DO NOT DISTRACT
Now i will start doing this trick again 🤞🏻
Hope for the best and thank me later

My chiropractor never told me that I had this because I did have cracking every time I opened and closed my mouth but she was saying I had jaw problems not that it was TMJ and she never had a clear diagnosis of what it was. Then she wanted me to come three to four times a week and I am on medical leave because of my neck injury. She used an activator on both side. I had to stop because my neck injury got worse and now I'm going to be getting an MRI.
dont trust chiropractors. Trust phisiotherapy
Shoulders and back are directly connected to the jaw so be careful about that
Is it near ear front hole? If gentle push I feel pain and the pain I can feel it through jaw
I also experiencing the TMJ disorder or whatever you call it
Splints etc what exactly are they supposed to “fix” or help with? Keep the disc “in place”? But you can’t have a splint in 24/7 and eat etc. The resolution should be to make a new disc somehow and keep it in place or put the disc back in place
“Solution” not resolution

Anyways, you want to look for an oral surgeon or TMJ speciallist (not a dentist). But do not look for surgery since the rate of success is low talking about pain free results (do your own research, read some meta-analysis).
Arthrocentesis with hyaluronic acid infiltration is a non invasive procedure with good results. You could go for arthroscopy as the last bullet. TMJ replacement is not worth the risk and isn't done usually currently.
I might have it that’s scary 😅
I definitely have the first one with ligament pain. It’s an absolute living hell. My lateral pterygoids are to blame and I might be clenching at night. I have made adjustments at my desk job, but it’s relentless. I’m in PT, stretching at home and getting a night guard. My bite feels a bit weird. Glad I’m not alone.
3 years of pain had 5 teeth pulled and finally figured out is not the teeth but the jaw. I feel you.
I need help please!!! I have had this excruciating pain for 40 years. It is like a very sharp pencil is being shoved into my eardrum at anytime 24/7 it can drop me to my knees. My clicking started in 1973 but although everybody could obviously hear it.
Novody could believe me. Its so bad now I can’t stand it anymore but i just cant get any answers. The dentist just pulled out most of my right side bottom teeth. My clicking has now a scratching sound. But i cant open my mouth more than 2 inches. Please help me!

My jaw completely pops out of the joint and then back in on both sides every single time I open and shut my mouth, and it makes multiple very loud cracking noises when it does that.
And I also get random pain flares that I ended up then having to be on a liquid/soft food diet for weeks or months for because it becomes way to painful to eat.
It's done it most of my life, but has gotten worse over the recent years.
I go for surgery in a couple weeks for it now.
My team won the match and then my jaw hurted me so bad now i am going to hospital💀
Is tmj disorder causes face muscle loss any one nkow ? Or sudden asymmetry face
Yes but those are very rare symptoms
And when you do that, is it normal for it to crack?

Wow 😲
I’ve had a popping/cracking jaw for years that could possibly have to do with the way I overly use my jaw when I sing, and now I don’t know what happened, if it has anything to do with the root canal I had done three weeks ago but last week I started having pain in my jaw near my ear if I open my jaw. It also hurts to drink out of a cup. It’s not popping anymore, just hurts and feels incredibly tense, and I really need relief 😩
Hey, how are you now? Did you visited a doctor? Same with the singing thing. I just hope i can keep doing so. Also, this has many other reasons, from genetics to stress...
Update 1: for the record i'm getting better by now after treatment.

Ohhhhhh. So thaaats why my jaw hinge pops (i do have tmj I just didn't actually know why it was clicking)
Dont create those pop sounds taking it as funny if u have. Its a serious problem & take it to a doctor asap bc it'll get worse with time. My left jaw was affected 1st & I used to laugh taking it funny but then the pain grew & it affected my left ear & then it shifted in my right jaw too & it creates difficulty in eating & smiling. It causes pain in ears, neck, teeths, cheeks & eyes. It even causes facial asymmetry & ALOT of irritation, uncomfortableness & pain. It even causes difficulty in yawning & sneezing. Just be careful & dont open your mouth that it end up creating that pop sound or twisting. Just do some facial exercises & be careful.

i dont even recall when i got tmj or tmd. i dont think its dislocated but it clicks and pop and when its "locked" i can just easily pop it.
sometimes it can get locked completely. It doesn't always snap back in place, 3 days ago, it literally got locked completely, and I can't snap it back, I'm still tryna get it back in place
@@hussreal can you at least close your mouth or does it completely lock in place
Anyone with tmjd that struggles with jawning? This issue is causing tightness in my neck which i don't know how to fix? Opinions?
hmm. well, since the problem is an issue with condyle and disk movement while opening your mouth, if you just yawn with your mouth closed you will be fine.
I've done that and i'm currently recovering quite well i think.
By the way i had an arthrocenthesis with hyaluronic acid injection two weeks ago.
Now, for neck problems i would put it like this:
-Fix Posture !!!!
-Physiotherapy (which includes homework as hot compresses for 20 minutes 3 TIMES A DAY EVERY DAY, home exercises before and after bed; periodic terapeutic massage)
-Neck-Shoulder-Back muscle mass increase (progresively, perhaps home excercices or gym work, but it is important to mantain a proper technique and a slow progression so you don't worse your condition. Just go easy but constant. We are talking about months. (80% of patience with neck pain have weak neck muscles)
This is a very important approach for relief and for prevention.
-Avoid stress. Fight directly against it throught regular excercise, giving you time periodically for doing the things you enjoy and forget your problems, meditation, dancing, music... The key is to find small things but to be consistent. Going in vacations for 1 week trying to do everything you haven't done in 2 months isn't how it works. Finding something that is sustainable every day is more valuable than that.
Stress get the muscles tight. If you are in constant stress then you better be constantly applying heat and massage.
-Muscle relaxers for an acute stress peak or whatever reason that causes muscle strain. NSAIDS. Pain Killers if pain is stressing you out so much. But try to win the game without an approach of long term meds intake.
-Healthy Diet (colour varied fruits and vegetables throughout the week, avoiding excesive sugar, muscle growth diet)
-Good sleep
You see is like a constant fight that led you, actually, force you to mantain good habits and a healthy life style that will allow you to mantain a good quality of life being healthy physically and mentally. If you are in that situation you don't have a chance to say no.
First of all thank you for your valuable input. Hopefully the injection will restore the function in the jaw🙏. My jaw has been much better now, the pain has decreased and the crunchy sounds are gone most of the time.
The neck has been better as well but requires daily maintenance, especially when sitting in front of a computer.
You are right, I will try to work on my posture and strengthen the surrounding muscles. Slowly but surely. And destressing is key. A body cannot tolerate chronic stress, at some point it breaks down. Nowadays I try to think of all the effort one puts into o one's health as an investment in future healthy me, gotta stay consistent. I wish you all the best brother, good health and peace of mind. ✌🙏👊@@MarceloArzubialdeRodriguez

tmj replacement is reserved for the worst scenario and still clinical evidence has shown varied results, it means that the rate of succes is not high.
You can cure it by a multidisciplinary approach, caring about psychological aspect, stress management, fighting against muscle strain, psysiotherapy and/or excercices/stretches, massage, heat, ninght guard, orthodontics in some cases, arthrocentesis, arthroscopy.
