    That's a lovely tree. I've got about 30 of these, all cuttings from two originals, in 4" pots. They're just about ready to start growing here in Australia. Despite what some people say, to me they've got all the advantages and none of the disadvantages of other trees. That will respond beautifully to your pruning; can't wait to see some updates!

    Your videos are a pleasure to watch. Very well done all around.
    Can you quickly define the context of 'wire pads', are pads the plant, and wiring is the act of using copper wire to hold it in place?

    • @grobonsai
      @grobonsai  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Pads are clusters of foliage that make up the canopy. Each branch will have one or more ‘pads of foliage’. So wiring pads means to organise the branching so the foliage forms a cohesive visual group of leaves. The shape of the pads help give the tree a particular look and feel. Long, thin pads emphasise a trees elegance or hint to a higher elevation environment. Broad, deep pads suggest a powerful presence and/or suggest a lowland or coastal environment.

    • @grobonsai
      @grobonsai  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Hello, there’s no right answer because it depends what you are trying to achieve. If you want maximum growth 18hours a day is possible but uses lots of energy. To keep the plants happy during the cold dark winter 8 hours is enough. It’s a case of figuring what you are happy with. This winter I cannot afford to put the lights on at all 🙃

      Theres two ways, you can plant them fresh off the tree in some soil - coco coir and perlite, anything really - and leave them outside until they grow in spring. Or you can collect them, put them in the fridge in a bag of damp perlite for 3 months in december. plant them late feb/early march, keep damp but not soggy and protect from frost.
