It always amazes me how gymnasts can walk backwards into the corner of the mat and not go out of bounds. They always seem to walk into the corner perfectly.
Well, they do those routines over and over and over for years. Also most of them have been on the floor since they have memory so their spacial awareness inside of that square is probably an instinct by now
I know, I've gotten better about it now but when I was younger there was a part of my routine where I would kinda skip backward into the corner, I ALWAYS went out of bounds so my coach had to change it eventually 😂 they have some kinda sixth sense or something lol
It only counts as out of bounds if their foot goes all the way over the line, so they can step on the line a tiny bit just to feel where it is and they won’t get a deduction.
I don't follow gymnastics usually, so my first time seeing her was at the Olympics. Aside from her talent, the thing I loved most about her was her personality. She was always so perky and bubbly. She seemed like a genuine person even at just 16. I love that she helped Gabby Douglas too, even though she didn't get to compete at the last games.

I just came from Nadia Comaneci's perfect score floor routine and it's unbelievable how standards have changed! WE JUST KEEP GETTIN' BETTER YAAAASSSS HUMANS!!!
To this day i believe that had it been a different code of point she would have won , the ridiculous judging in bejing and the execution scores given were a complete joke , espcially when nastia woukd get a 7.7 start value on bars you think something is not right , shawn just had this bravery and and consistency that other did not have then , she did skills some woukd dream to do but she lost due to nastias bars , the underscoring to her and overscoring of others

That period of 5 tumbling passes was so crazy hard . I cannot imagine ever doing that many passes in one routine . Wow. She is in incredible shape. Shawn Johnson will forward be one of the greatest to walk the planet.
I feel like Shawn and Simone has a similar style / energy like both serious and peppy but Simone is even more serious and even more peppy. Their style is very punctuated and their look a bit like a cheerleader. Laurie too. Laurie is a firecracker. Shawn jumps so high and fast. I love her intensity when she runs into a pass. She is so cute. Such such execution. And her leotard is like icing on the cake.
