Extended version of Return to the Warrens from Darkest Dungeon.
I often find myself searching the web for awesome soundtracks to games I enjoy to play or watch. However, many that I find are the OST, which tend to be short, while I would instead prefer versions that I could listen to at length. So, I've taken it upon myself to develop this extended cut of the original. I hope you all enjoy. - Hry
Best part is when your torch goes out and you hear the pigs squealing in the background along with the music.
General Greivous Dude for real, this fucking level is so atmospheric ams horrifying.
Why did the Ancestor experiment on pigs? Just why? I feel like if he did it on humans, the result would be so much less creepy.

Even such a cruel and sociophatich guy such as him just couldn't do these experiments on their own people. Why? Beacuse:
1. Human Quantity is limited
2. The villagers would most likely rebel in the first sight, and that would be a problem.
So he choose pigs, beacuse their anatomy are strangely very similar to ours. Basically he summoned demons and put them into pigs; they become the vessel. Some of their body couldn't take it (Swine Wrenches)but some of them could: In fact, they even managed to stand on two legs and make semi-basic human intelligent actions, like attacking the adventurers with a butcher knife and such. Need more explanation?
I already knew all that. I just fear pig abominations way more than human abominations. I wish he'd just experiment on humans. Knowing that he already fed some of his village to the Swine King and literally cut off half the population by hiring bandits, I'm pretty sure he IS cruel enough to experiment on humans. They just looked for a reason for him to experiment on pigs so Warrens could be a thing.
I mean I see your point, but if *pigs* turned into those diabolic twisted "things" (Just look at the fucking Gladiator pig!) I cannot possibly imagine what would the human version look like. I bet he wouldn't be able to contain them in a semi-big area (AKA the Warrens) and we wouldn't be able to stop them at all. So as cold-hearthed as it sounds, the pigs were the better idea overall.
Ha was crazy, but definietely not insane; even he saw how badly the whole situation could turn out, hence the reason they cant be found in any other areas except for the Warrens.

And if you add the swine squeals it feel like your surrounded in a ritualistic battle similar to the some tribes to prove, wedd and many more

Also, the effigies you see that if you pour holy water on causes a negative effect, is made out of a chest of a person. You can see 2 nipples at the top.

Warrens was the one place I avoided like the plague throughout my first playthrough, that shit is just cursed beyond anyone's imagination, probably the hardest vanilla place in my opinion.

The Ancestor sure made a mess of everything. I can only imagine the smell in those tunnels. I'm just glad he used pigs rather then people. Seeing as how the Hamlet had been put down by the Brigand Brigade there would no doubt be a lot of tension and using people from the Hamlet would not be a wise move as they would be missed. Or maybe after perfecting the ritual he intended to use the Hamlet as an army of such.
Uh, well the ancestor fed his villagers to the pigs and that's why there's so many human bones scattered in the background of the warrens, as well as the carts full corpses, then there's the undead in the ruins which were the guards/military force of the hamlet who were turned by the necromancers.
I imagine the pugs are a better fit since before being injected with Eldritch essence all they know is to feed and breed, and that's all the purpose those Eldritch being could inherit from them, seemingly aimless in their existence otherwise.
Now, a human who got purposefully transformed... I can imagine Ancestor being wary of the possible result. And I guess the existence of Abomination class proves this point
The only good thing that the Ancestor did was throwing all the Carcasses in that labyrinth, otherwise the Swine Folk would have escape from it and ravage the Hamlet even more, still the Ancentor decision to do all those sacrifices was very wrong in the first place
True, he used pigs, but concerningly the Swine are also classed as Human-enemy types
Either the Ancestor dabbled with human cadavers to go with his pig experiments, or more concerningly, the Swine have used humans as a means to breed at one point before they became self sufficient, or worse, still need human women even that many generations later
I also like to think that the Formless Flesh might actually breed out Swine like a horrible broodmother of some kind, but anything that isn't the little vomiting bastard seems too well-built to come from a thing like that

this people always trying to speed things up, it's intended to be in a certain speed, it's part of the song's art, the author composed it that way for a reason, the author is a proffesional that studied composition, if you speed it up you cant hear properly a lot of the bass and back instruments. In this speed it blends perfectly to the speed of the game, and it gives it suspense.
Faster doesn't mean better
some of us need more potent crack, ya know.
Its also about the tempo, here this song has a battle cadence where it feels as if multiple players or enemies are interacting in tandem to one another's beats.

It.. is a travesty, a blundering mountain... of hatred... and rage.
I can see why the drum pig can seem like such a meme.
Like how is the little drummer swine somehow more stressful than a literal pig centaur?
But I like to think its a bit more complicated than that. Imagine, seeing these horrors in dark and ancient sewageways. You see pigmen being whipped into a frenzy by the beating of drums, the sound loud enough to nearly drown out your ability to think.
Thats terrifying.

Why does the Warrens have multiple tracks, while the others only have one?
All areas have two tracks depending on the light level, but the warrens it's where it's most noticeable because it's arranged differently. In other areas only some instruments are added, in the cove strings are added under low light

if they breed so feckin quickly then why dont we ever see the female swine? Or set out on a mission to slay them specifically? Or are they like female skaven from Warhammer, where theyre basically turned into broods.

Well, *these* pigs aren't naturally created. Basically they're a bunch of NORMAL pigs posessed by such terryfing demonic creatures that they have been turned to "those", due to the Ancestor's experiments. You know, finding a good vesself for the demons, and the vessels were the pigs. Those whose body couldn't take it, turned into those little vomiting shits. The other ones are the normal big ones, and the Swine Prince/King/God is the biggest one. And one of the most stupid.
And who said we don't? I mean, I'm not an expert in biology but does the female pig show any discernible gender features? For all we know, some of them (e.g. the skiver, the meathooker) could be female.
Theyre probably very simmilar in anatomy, thus you cant tell them apart all too well
