I dont think any other game can match the pride and adrenaline you experience when your stressed out party members go heroic
a tide turning 10% critical hit in xcom ironman can get pretty close. :)
When my Crusader or Vestal gets heroic I always imagine them screaming "DEUS VULT INFIDIELS!"! Shit simply just got more searious :D
The Vestal I brought with me for the last fight became Vigorous halfway through. Unfortunately I brought Reynauld and Dismas, so I had to *(LMAO SPOILERS)*

All of my deaths on one of my files have been because one of my bounty hunters took a critical hit, and the next enemy just happened to target them as well. Both times I didn't even get a chance to counter it.

Got plans for the final boss of my campaign to be an evil drow lich queen that actually turns out to be one of the party members mother. Long way to go yet but i look forward to the encounter, this soundtrack fits perfectly!

That actually has to be one of the most intense of the lines! So many epic encounters in this game arrrrhhhh XD No other game than DD makes you fear for your characters lives like that.
As a DM I love seeing my players lose their shit when I play fitting music for each monster. Im using this for the hag coven next session

Also I love how the cove music represents the bosses of the cove. 11:31 is the Siren's song, 12:39 is the moaning and chanting of the Drowned Crew, and the sunken ship bells and drums of the Pelagics are all within the piece.

I am 33. I play since 1990 according to my parents. I play a lot, and always used to play a lot in the past as well. I experienced most of the mainstream consoles, as well as Neo-Geo, dreamcast, ps2 saturn snes genesis....pc gaming as well in the 90's... and let me tell you this straight: this game has one of the best atmosphere I have ever witnessed.
Yes and even though it's 2D isn't that just awesome?
It leans hard into the Lovecraft influences, especially with the rich and vivid flavor text, does not hold your hand, and makes insanity a thing to fear more than death. This and Bloodborne do an excellent job at getting at that part of what makes Lovecraft's mythos so good.

Hearing the music at 5:00, when your torches are snuffed and your hero's are fighting on their last legs is so intense
...and the ceaseless squeals of the swine folk, closing in from all around.
Almost like they're lurking just beyond the wall, the only thing keeping them at bay is themselves, squabbling over who gets to eat your party first.

@@punishedredruby that's the thing with this game, if you ragequit you come back stronger and with a different mentality. I think that's the right way to play DD, overrun the game and you will get more and more stress.
The Cove Combat music must be my favourite soundtrack in the game! It gives player a mood to fight rather than cry over getting critted by "pelagic fishman-folk" ;)
Me personal favourite is Return to the Warrens which only plays in low light battles. Hence I'd make as many low light warren runs as possible.

That moment when you are at low health and enemies are getting crits, while the stress is about to hit 100 in the next few turns, the light is low and you have to choose beetwen to try to scape or fight for the life of your heroes. This soundtrack is what you feel at that moment.

When you're playing DnD and you need music for a Lich Boss
Stumbling upon these songs years after my last play-through gave me PTSD flashbacks.
I like how the final battle theme seems to combine and implement several elements from each other theme.
Makes sense as it is the theme of the final boss
Make sense, thats a way to end your Journey, a reminder of all you have done till the end
I once had pretty much my entire group go heroic during a fight that they were losing badly until that point. Best feeling ever when they won.
That special feature of the heroes being virtuous after being stressed out which is expected as affliction gives the game suspense as if you're having an andrenaline rush
