Did you know, Up behind Greenlane Hospital, Greenlane Auckland. Is a place where Bono from U2, wrote a song about. "One Tree Hill" its a song by Irish rock band U2 and the ninth track on their 1987 album The Joshua Tree. In March 1988, it was released as the fourth single
We turn away
To face the cold
Enduring chill
As the day begs
The night for mercy love
A sun so bright
It leaves no shadows
Only scars
Carved into stone
On the face of earth
The moon is up
And over One Tree Hill
We see the sun
Go down in your eyes
We never knew Donna! thanks for filling us in. Bono lives down at the beach in dublin!
@@GlenAndMado, Yes I was going to mention One Tree Hill, Mangere mountain has a nice crater, exposing boulders and volcanic rocks! Must come back for another tour 😅. Love watching your videos! All the best 💕
Would love to live in NZ.😓Love the remoteness and the nature.🇳🇿
Greetings from Austria.🇦🇹
Years ago they used to have a wheel barrow race up Mt Eden, which my dad and his friend won one year...you put your mate in wheelbarrow and push lol then swap each time you got tired....they used it as pre season rugby league training 👍👍
Walk to the top of one tree hill within Cornwall Park. Cafe and free parking at Cornwall Park also lots of sheep and cows within the park in the centre of the city.
The good thing about nz is that the sky doesn't stay gloomy long. It's blue and bright alot of the time.
we have definitely noticed that Gissy!
Lived in Mt Eden for years and it's somehow exciting seeing you explore what has become mundane everyday. You should have bought some 'COOKED' fish from the Seafood Collective!
Absolutely Marvelous G & M
Always kind words from you my friend haha
One of the great things about NZ is it's always green all year round. Only 11 of the 260 native trees of New Zealand lose all of their leaves in the autumn and can be called completely deciduous. The other deciduous trees are imports. So we're just as green in winter as we are in summer.
Your totally right, like tellytubby land haha. its a magical place my friend :)
@@GlenAndMado You guys are welcome back anytime.
Hey yous two you make me want to go there I loved how you explained things you liked the most xxxx thank u both
Check out the Parnell Gardens and the pools below it,awesome views of the Port and City from the bottom of the street carpark, right on the corner.
Really enjoyed this as with all your videos. Seeing streets I too have been down shops that I have seen before and got food from. Going up Mt Eden is something that i have never done. Will be on my to do list will have to it very soon as youngest child is about to finish schooling. We drop him off regularly at boarding school on the other side of Mt Eden having traveled up from the mighty Waikato.
its really special that out videos bring back flash backs from your past. Make sure you get up the mountain though, its definitely the highlight :)
☀️ 🇳🇿 ❤
Awesome vid guys, definitely an easier going, more relaxed vibe away from the Big "Generic" City Centre, where you could be anywhere on the planet !
You've an amazing open personality Glen, you can see people get drawn to you !
No such thing as a stranger to Glen, just a friend you haven't met yet ! 😁

🐦🐦
Very true john, we really enjoyed making this video :) awh sure it doesn't cost anything to say hello to someone John!
I hope you have a lot of good memories of your time with us in Nz.
Mt Edens always been nice.
Epsom and Remuera are where the huge mansions are.
All the volcanos around Auckland are outlets for the same volcano in never blows in the same place twice its overdue for the next event
Mt Eden has the most iconic and famous Rugby Stadium in NZ as well TV3 headquarters and a huge prison so lots of fond memories of this place.
You get a different view of Auckland from the top of Rangitoto Island, which is a ferry ride out and day trek to the top - many school trips years ago. What I enjoy about NZ is that you can be on the beach and then hike up a mountain on the same day. Anyone can do it, not restricted by income and availability. We have something like 400 golf courses, several in Auckland which are available to the public on a one game usage, you don't have to be a member. A side note: those rock fences you were walking by are made from lava rocks, our volcanic heritage :D
I definitely believe you, it definitely would of being awesome but honestly we didn't have the time unfortunately :(
Go over to Howick village before you leave (I'm biased, I grew up there :)) also the East Coast bays are well worth going along Takapuna all the way up to Torbay. I think those would be my recommendations.
I wish we could make them but unfortunately we won't be able to this trip :(
@@GlenAndMado that's a shame, try for Howick on the way out then, Howick then hop on the motorway at Manukau ;)
Howick boy here. Real nice in Howick.
When you said you were visiting Newton I thought you meant some of the quieter side streets off Newton Rd, rather than just upper Symonds Street and Mt Eden Rd. There's Hard to Find Books in Benedict Street, as well as a highly rated vegan cafe, Benedict's. In Upper Queen Street is the Masterworks Gallery where works by some of NZ's top craft artists are shown.
The Powerstation is Auckland's iconic gig venue for indie/alternative acts since the mid-eighties at least. I've seen many local and international bands perform there over the years, including the Beths, the Ramones, the Buzzcocks, Sleaford Mods, Pavement and Eden.
At Wild Wheat it looked like you got there late in the afternoon, since their cabinets were getting emptied out. They have some very good crusty sourdough breads, including made with golden kūmara, spelt, rosemary, caraway or potato.
In Mt Eden village is the Essential deli, and near the Flower Station there's the altar cafe in a large restored villa. Circus Circus cafe has been going for twenty plus years.
On top of Mt Eden you could see Rangitoto Island, which guards the entrance to the Waitematā Harbour. It is surely Auckland's largest and youngest volcano, visible from as far inland as the One Tree Hill suburb. It's well worth a visit and trek to the top.
Mt Eden suburb is known for being home to many established artists, and there are several small dealer galleries on Mt Eden Rd.
I need to check out that cafe.
As for Wild Wheat. We got one in Howick and its really nice.
The Powerstation is indeed a place to see gigs. Its been there for quite a long time. I myself went to a few heavy metal concerts there back in the 90s. Good times.
As for Maungawhau (Mt Eden) the wooden walkways are to protect the landscape. Amazing place.
Waiheke is awesome but quite expensive if you take a car. Its over $100 for the car but worth it for a day trip. Amazing cafes there.
Mado made me hungry for a croissant, yummy.
Another good one team.
North Shore, Browns Bay…beautiful
Agree, seeing they have a car just drive East Coast Bays road the whole way up the shore. To be fair Orewa is worth a stop too.
Hibiscus Coast 🌺💯 Red beach 😍@@alexandramcpherson4189
North Shore beaches are awesome. I like Campbell's Bay, Castor Bay & Long Bay. Winston's Cove for a li'l private swim too. Plus any of the Whangaparaoa beaches.
Plenty of tucked away bush walks with beautiful views too. You wouldn't come across most of them as tourists but the North Shore is my favourite place in Auckland.
I'd also recommend taking a ferry from the city to Hobsonville Point and back. The tunnels at Mt. Victoria & North Head are a fun li'l afternoon too.
Sorry to tell you but the ice cream you missed is the best I’ve had. Definitely recommend others to try. Lovely couple run it too.
You should go out west in Auckland…. Got a mini sand dune! Can use some sand boarding you guys missed up top…. Hahaa few areas around north shore is nice…but west is where I would recommend… little biased but hey! 😅
lol, I used to go into that bakery (4:18) at least every 2nd morning to pick up lunch on my way into the city.
your definitely choosing the right place then Lucy :) its a great spot!
I know you were busy. But it is a shame that you didn't make it over to Rangitoto. Itmis amazing
Dominion road is where all the real food is,bit of a trip from the CBD, 20 minutes on the bus,but really worth it.
We never knew :)
You did used to be able to slide down on cardboard into the craters (at least One Tree Hill) but the fun police put a stop to all that and now can't even drive up the mountains... so only those with ability to walk up can now go.
hahah no way thats insane, I'd say that was alot of fun :) the old days were definitely the good days.
@@GlenAndMado Yeah you being a big kid at heart. But I do feel sorry for kids now with the fun police having taken over. It was a big thing in the school holidays to go sliding down the crater - they put rocks in so kids couldn't do it anymore. I can remember being very annoyed.
People with handicaps and a mobility card are granted an exception, they're still allowed to drive up - that's good at least. No help for the chronically unfit like me though!!
@@AO-oy4rf Ah don't worry about them. They're mostly on their phones these days. The fun police seem to like taking away the ability for us to create our own fun, but at least they've improved some of the parks. Potters Park for instance is massively popular now.
Get the ferry to Devonport
, you can walk up the mountain there easily and get a great view.
@@francesgraham5411 we ended up driving actually 😀 it’s our next video!
I thought you would mean Devonport on Tasmania😂. But you mean the other part of Auckland.
@@GlenAndMado I live on the Devonport peninsula, best place in Auckland.so many beaches, nice places to eat, fantastic people. Hope the rest of your trip is great
Your very lucky to live in such a beautiful place! not jealous at all 😂
Those homes will be more than a million! 😂 Go to Devenport!
See Jehovah's name, I a'm in the Waimate congregation. :)
@@Patricia.rogers Awesome God we serve! Where is that?
@@bobbysmith855 We certainly do, In South Canterbury in South Island NZ. Where are you ? :)
@@Patricia.rogers North Auckland. 😊
@@bobbysmith855 Lovely place, I was actually born in Auckland, Lived for a time in Remuera as a child then Ellerslie. The onto the South Island. :) Hope all well with you. Just finished the meeting, Was very encouraging. :) Please give love to the brother's and sister's. Nice to meet you.
Mt Eden Gardens set in what used to be a quarry until common sense took its hold is a great place to visit.
The average house is just over 1 million $ in Auckland. Houses and land is very expensive here in NZ
Thats shocking! how can anyone afford that?
@@GlenAndMado Only with generation wealth
Heck the median house price in Auckland is over a million - nice suburbs like Mt Eden you don't even want to know!! Also, you're not allowed to go into the crater, that area is tapu. You used to be able to drive up Mt Eden, and other viewpoints like it, but that's no longer allowed as a matter of respect to maori culture.
thats insane! how can you afford to buy a house :( but yeah completely understand and respect the rule, a good way to preserve the place too :)
The only good thing about Auckland are the motorways leading out of it.
Being from auckland myself i would find tourists would think its shite. No history like ireland. Get conor mcgregor to come with his titanium shinbone
