4:58 1) If TSH is too low = work on the brain (pituitary, thyroid - environmental toxin, toxicity)
    2) If T4 is not converting into T3 = work on the liver or the gut (Keto, Fasting 36 Hour)
    3) If your TSH, T4, and T3 is in balance but you still feel crummy = T3 is not getting into the cell (eat: good fats, eliminate: bad fats, sugar and carbohydrates toxins: heavy metals, pcb plastics, etc.)
    4) High Reverse T3 and high Cortisol = work on adrenals (lower stress)

One thing that is often missed ~ iodine~ Iodine is needed to make thyroid hormone the '4' and '3' in T4/T3 indicates 4/3 atoms of iodine- without enough you body cannot make T4 hormone in the first place.
Selenium is needed to convert T4 into T3 so this is also a crucial nutrient. I know in Australia our soils are deficient in both iodine and selenium so many are deficient despite a healthy diet.
Bromines- eg chlorine and fluoride block up receptors in thyroid for iodine (as chemically the structures are similar) so these can cause issues too.

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos hypothyroidism after a severe reaction to a flu shot in minutes which took me from perfect health and weight to 3 specialists and physical therapy sessions off & on for years. After years of pain fatigue being overweight and just feeling bad all the time even with synthroid and all the doctors look at is thyroid bloodwork is fine so they do nothing but my symptoms are always bad. I have learned so much from your videos and am 100% determined to figure out how to get a better quality of life…thank you for helping me start this journey

Fun fact: the inventor of the TSH test said, in the very paper that introduced the test in the 1970s, that the TSH test should NOT be used diagnostically, but when someone has the symptoms of hypothyroidism, a trial of T3 should be used. However, within one year, the "standard of care" literally all over the world, became to test only the TSH and interpret it diagnostically, and to prescribe only T4, not T3. I read the actual paper some years ago, but unfortunately, I didn't print it out. Mysteriously when I search for it now, I haven't been able to find it. Searches only give references to when the test was created. They don't even say who created the test! If anyone can point me to where that paper is, I'd be so grateful.

Thanks so much for making this series of videos on thyroid levels! I’ve had the typical GP experience where my TSH level was ‘okay’ therefore no further tests were requested despite all my obvious symptoms. I paid privately and got T4, T3 and RT3 tests and analysed these myself to identify my issue. I found my T3 was low and my RT3 was very high! After eliminating all other causes and doing my research I think I got my thyroid issue from fasting too much - I didn’t realise I was consuming far too few calories and wasn’t fasting correctly. This wrecked my thyroid and stalled my metabolism - now my weight won’t budge no matter how hard I try. In your next video can you please discuss this as I think ‘caloric restriction’ is an unknown cause of thyroid problems and an inability to lose weight issues. Thank you - look forward to the next one.

I believe in her other video she said that HRT3 (high reverse T3) is a result of stress and should lower your stress and you dont really need to fast for your thyroid issue. And heal your adrenals instead.

@@linaa4076high reverse T3 can be due to stress, gut issues, or caloric restriction. “Healing Thyroid,” I like that comment
    Notes: TSH test by doctor, thyroid hormones must go into cell, TSH looks at small piece of puzzle, other organs come into play 1) brain will secrete TSH and T4, T4 has to go into liver & gut for T3, cell must be receptive to receive; pituitary gland;
    TSH low - brain
Liver if t4 not into t3
Thyroid- environment toxic if I’m balance
T3- liver & gut if not enough conversation
If numbers are fine, look at cell
Cel - look at fats, if bad fats, resist reception; need good fats for reception; outer membrane will inflame with high sugar diet.
    Do Keto and Ket variations.
Get off breads, pasta, high sugars
Lots of toxics will block receptor site
Heal liver, gut and cell, then thyroid will work right.
Adrenals send reverse T3, when cortisone goes up.

Just found this channel today. Where I live, as long as your TSH is within normal range on a blood test, the doctors and labs refuse to test any other possibilities for thyroid disease. This makes for a lot of frustrated middle aged women. Looking forward to educating myself after suffering since 2001 after my thyroid was hyperactive for a brief period. A naturopath told me I have hashimotos after reviewing my bloodwork taken earlier by my regular doctor. Due to the pandemic though I have no way to see this naturopath anymore as she is no longer working out of an office locally. Thank heavens for CZcams.

My blood test and biopsy did not trigger any alarms for her so just wrote it off as a goiter and that was that. I feel like there’s more going on, my mom used to take “thyroid pill” but I don’t know why and she’s since passed away from PSP 2 yrs ago :(. I’m just trying to get more educated. As I approach 50 I’ve been working on feeling better and trying to remedy a long history of “bad habits” that have put me where I am now. My bad habits are attributable to not knowing! The meds just don't do the Job on their own.
The side effect: I am lean, strong and look great.
While I got my nutrition right And my conditions in Check, I lost the 30kg of fat I gained due to my thyroid issues and my emotional eating.
To be clear: my thyroid degenerated AFTER I started eating crap. My ADHD became Bad as an effect.
Since I lost the 30kg I continued eating clean and started Rock climbing. I gained 8kg of mostly muscle in about 2 years.
But I have to do everything you say consistently or I meld like a snowflake.
The hint that i can tweak my wellbeeing a Little more by fasting has got me all exited. Since I bulked up 8kg, I will shamelessly experiment with it. 😁

I wish the last three endocrinologists that I’ve seen would have given me even half of this information. I have Graves’ disease and the meds I’ve been put on have more cons than pros. I was careful with my diet and I still gained one pound a day. That kind of fast weight gain is too hard on my body. I used to walk 30 mins every morning and the Dr’s said “keep walking” well I physically couldn’t walk anymore bc I’d be completely out of breath just ten steps in and my muscles felt so tight to where I just couldn’t take one more step. I’m not getting any better, the nodules are still there, the weight gain is not good for my physical or mental health, and I’m just tired of feeling bad but my current Dr wants me to stay on the medication and never says anything about my outrageous weight gain and other issues. I don’t want to have surgery bc all that will do is take my Hyperthyroid and turn it into Hypothyroid. They all say there is no cure but it’s better to have an under active thyroid than it is to have an over active one….
I appreciate the lengths you’ve gone to to explain the entire process of the thyroid function along with its “job” and the jobs of the other parts of the body. Thank you for sharing your knowledge @Dr Mindy Pelz 🙏☺️💝

    Great video
Jut want to touch on the genetic aspect….. my family does seem to have a genetic disposition for thyroid disease. And the article linked in regarding environmental toxins and thyroid states that 70 % of thyroid conditions are genetic. Can I conclude from my own family history something is being passed down that’s causing a predisposition?
Thanks for your great work and I’m always just amazed at your incredible focus on the topic of fasting !!!

I have hyperthyroidism and had been on camazol for over 20 years. I was diagnosed with Grave disease in 2018 and my specialist recommended radioactive iodine, which I refused. I did some research and found Autoimmune Protocol Diet (AIP). Immediately, I eliminated the inflammatory foods listed. I also stopped taking Camazol. My conditions improved despite not taking any poison pill. I embraced the ketogenic lifestyle soon after and felt great until today. My symptoms will return whenever I ingest nightshades, gluten or milk. So, stay keto.

I'm so glad you mention soy. Taking soy isoflavone supplements to stop my hot flushes stopped my thyroxine being absorbed by my body, and I was very ill as a result. I could barely out one foot in front of the other and my body developed cellulitis. (At 11:11)

I’d be interested to know your opinion of low estrogen/menopause effect on the thryoid. It’s very common for women to have thyroid issues as they approach menopause. Apparently as estrogen reduces, it affects the amount of thryoid hormone that is made as well as causing inflammation in the body. There are also estrogen receptors in every cell in the body too.

My T3, rT3 are normal. My T4 is consistently low. I have an incidentaloma on my pituitary. Taking NP 120 for years…doc added Levothyroxine and t4 went through the roof. Lowered it by half. I’m STILL EXHAUSTED. I do OMAD longer fasts. My water is filtered. No antibacterial soap. Organic whole foods only. Olive oil and butter. No endo has ever helped…now what…I’m exhausted and weight is stuck.

I developed my thyroid condition when I was a child. Found out at 11 but stopped growing at 8. I’m still figuring out when I actually got this disease. I was a healthy fat baby girl. Not sure how I got this at such a young age... definitely struggling and need help! My mom thinks I’m being poisoned by the environment! How do I avoid these chemicals!? Ugh so frustrating.

I understand this! But you have to be nearly 90% sick before they can diagnose you. If you feel it's your thyroid or adrenals just try this way of being and check yourself. You may never have to go through any of this.

Wow I’ve read all the replies on this and about low calorie and some fasting and how several people think this is what threw them into thyroid problems. I also have hypo thyroid and I think mine was hormonal going through menopause around 43-44. I think what kept me alive was my green vibrance everyday which has so many great nutrients. Also seaweeds. For many years I have had a pretty clean diet a lot of organic and a lot of green drinks and salads. I just had blood work and they said something about my pituitary was not working because my thyroid levels were normal to high so they have lowered my thyroid dose but took me off it for 3 days to reset it. I haven’t gone back for blood work but I am going to do a 48 maybe 72 hour fast and than have the blood work. I’m taking myself off my thyroid and all vitamins during this fast. I’m just curious about electrolytes during a fast. Also can I have black coffee in the morning during the fast.

I have a question that I’m sure somebody would be able to answer. By the way Dr. Mindy, thank you so much for your efforts to convey your knowledge to people in need like myself. My question is, can stain drugs act as blockers to our cell receptors? Can Stains block our receptors? I have been on the these drugs for a little over a year and a half and am working on getting off of them as soon as I can due to the bad side effects. Thank you ,
    John G.
