Text: Acts 2:5-16, 36-38
Title: Empowered
Memory verse: Acts 2:36, “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Theme: The Holy Spirit empowers believers to point others to Jesus.
I. The empowering of the Holy Spirit (vv. 5-13)
A. They communicated powerfully (vv. 5-11)
1. The sound
2. The substance
B. The people responded differently (vv. 12-13)
1. The amazement (vv. 12-13)
2. The confusion (vv. 12-13)
3. The mockery (v 13)
Discussion: How can we cooperate with the Holy Spirit to witness for Christ?
II. The preaching of the Holy Spirit (vv. 14-16)
A. When the Gospel message is preached through the Holy Spirit, there is first, individual transformation (v. 14a)
B. When the Gospel message is preached through the Holy Spirit, there is second, corporal teamwork (v. 14b)
C. When the Gospel message is preached through the Holy Spirit, there is thirdly, contextual thoughtfulness (v. 14c)
D. When the Gospel message is preached through the Holy Spirit, there is fourthly, verbal teaching (v. 14d)
III. The piercing of the Holy Spirit (vv. 36-38)
A. Pierced by our act of crucifixion (v. 36)
B. Pierced by the acknowledgement of Christ’s identification (v. 36c)
C. Pierced with an awareness of our destruction (v. 37)
D. Pierced by the availability of Christ’s salvation! (v. 38a)
E. Pierced with the assurance of the Holy Spirit’s provision (v. 38b)
Conclusion: If you are saved, you are empowered and sent!
